| Bin Laden: Palestinian Cause Prompted 9/11 LONDON, May 16, 2008 (CBS/AP) Al Qaeda's media operation has released a new audio message on the Internet from Osama bin Laden, dealing primarily with Israel and the Palestinians on the 60th anniversary of Israel's creation. The message, downloaded by CBS News from the prominent jihadist Web forum El Ekhlas, did not include any new images of the al Qaeda chief. The 9:40-minute audio by bin Laden showed an old photo of his face over a brown graphic and included the title, "A Message to the Peoples of the West: From Sheik Osama bin Laden," with the subheading: “The Reasons for the Struggle on the 60th Anniversary of the Creation of the Occupation State of Israel.” Bin Laden began his message by telling listeners that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict has always been the primary cause for friction between the West and the Muslim world - a struggle which he said was getting more difficult due to European policies biased in Israel's favor. "The Palestinian cause has been the main factor that, since my early childhood, fueled my desire, and that of the 19 freemen (Sept. 11 bombers), to stand by the oppressed, and punish the oppressive Jews and their allies," the al Qaeda chief said. "We shall continue the fight, Allah willing, against the Israelis and their allies, in order to pursue justice for the oppressed, and we shall not give up one inch of Palestine, as long as there is still a single true Muslim alive." Meanwhile, President Mr. Bush wrapped up his visit to Israel Friday, commemorating the anniversary of the country's creation - a visit which he used to again urge both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to negotiate a peace settlement. His visit, however, drew frustration from Palestinians, many of whom view the American leader as a biased friend of Israel. On the other side, few Israelis had hope that Mr. Bush could evoke the good will to see an agreement reached by the end of year - his long-stated goal. Palestinians marked the 60th anniversary of Israel's creation with demonstrations and solemn ceremonies on Thursday - a stark contrast to Israel's joyous birthday celebrations. Palestinians refer to the anniversary as the "nakba," Arabic for catastrophe. In the audio released Friday, bin Laden said the celebrations proved "that 60 years ago, the state of Israel did not exist. It was forcefully created on Palestinian land under the fire of the weapons, and this is evidence that the Jews are invader occupiers who should be fought." Mr. Bush's embrace of Israel at a time when the Palestinians were mourning was bound to further harm the tainted U.S. image in the Palestinian areas and across the Arab world. Palestinian analyst Hani al-Masri said Mr. Bush cannot be a peacemaker if he sides with Israel. "It is not a peace process. It is a process without peace," he told CBS News correspondent Robert Berger. In a speech to the Knesset, or parliament, Mr. Bush asserted Thursday that the United States has an unbreakable bond with Israel. He said Americans believe that Israel has a right to defend itself from extremists and "killers pledged to its destruction." Bin Laden reserved much of his new audio address for an attack on the Western media, which he accused of misleading the public to show "the Israeli invaders as the victims." "On the other hand, they portrayed the Palestinians, who are claiming back their lands, as merciless terrorists," he said. "The media has contributed to the shaping of a misled public opinion that made it possible to involve Western nations in an unjust war against us, as has been the case in Iraq." Al Qaeda has dramatically increased the pace of its messages since last year. CBS News consultant Hoda Osman reported that this was bin Laden’s 26th statement since the Sept. 11th attacks, including four videos and 22 audio messages. Bin Laden’s last statement was an audio tape released on March 20th. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bin Laden turns his mind to IsraelAl-Qaida is focusing its rhetoric on fighting Israel as it competes with more successful militant groups for legitimacy and popularity http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2008/may/30/middleeast ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Bin Laden: Fight for Palestinian cause fueled 9/11 attacks Bin Laden: Palestinian cause fuels holy war (AP) May 16th, 2008 Al-Qaida will continue its holy war against Israel and its allies until it liberates Palestine, Osama bin Laden said in a new audio statement Friday. U.S. support for Israeli crimes against the Palestinians is a price we all must pay. For that support the Israelis put more Americans in danger while they keep announcing plans to grab more Palestinian land and build more illegal settlements while at the same time continue their daily raids and missile strikes in Gaza and the West Bank killing hundreds of innocent civilians each month. Yet, our government officials are too spineless to put any pressure on the Jewish state in fear that it will angry American Jews for their financial support, media backing, votes, and threats from the powerful Israeli lobby, AIPAC. When will the American people stand up and demand an end to this unbalanced, one-sided Middle East policy? Bin Laden: Palestinian cause fuels war CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - Osama bin Laden said in a new audio recording released Friday that al-Qaida will continue its holy war against Israel and its allies until it liberates Palestine. The terrorist leader's third statement this year came as President Bush was wrapping up his visit to Israel to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Jewish state. Bin Laden said the fight for the Palestinian cause was the most important factor driving al-Qaida's war with the West and fueled 19 Muslims to carry out the suicide attacks against the U.S. on September 11. ``To Western nations ... this speech is to understand the core reason of the war between our civilization and your civilizations. I mean the Palestinian cause,'' said bin Laden in the close to 10 minute audiotape. ``The Palestinian cause is the major issue for my (Islamic) nation. It was an important element in fueling me from the beginning and the 19 others with a great motive to fight for those subjected to injustice and the oppressed,'' added bin Laden. Al-Qaida has been stepping up its attempts to use the Israeli-Arab conflict to rally supporters. Israel has warned of growing al-Qaida activity in Palestinian territory, though the terror network is not believed to have taken a strong role there so far. The authenticity of the message could not be verified, but it was posted on a Web site commonly used by al-Qaida and the voice resembled the one in past bin Laden audiotapes. Though it was unknown exactly when the audio was recorded, but it referenced Israel's 60th anniversary, which began May 8. IntelCenter, a U.S. group that monitors al-Qaida message traffic, said the audio message was accompanied by a photo of bin Laden wearing a white robe and turban next to a picture of the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. It was unclear when the photo of bin Laden was taken. The al-Qaida leader said the Western media managed to brainwash people over the past 60 years by ``portraying the Jewish invaders, the occupiers of our land, as the victims while it portrayed us as the terrorists.'' ``Sixty years ago, the Israeli state didn't exist. Instead, it was established on the land of Palestine raped by force,'' said bin Laden. ``Israelis are occupying invaders whom we should fight.'' Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Arye Mekel dismissed bin Laden's new message. ``We do not relate or pay attention to the words of this terrorist lunatic,'' he said. ``The time has come for him to be apprehended and pay for his crimes.'' Bin Laden criticized Western leaders like Bush who participated in Israel's 60th anniversary celebrations. Bush feted Israel on Thursday and predicted that its 120th birthday would find it alongside a Palestinian state and in an all-democratic neighborhood free of today's oppression, restrictions on freedom and extremist Muslim movements. Delivering this rosy forecast for the Middle East in 2068 during a speech to the Knesset, the Israeli parliament, Bush made no acknowledgment of the hardship Palestinians suffered when hundreds of thousands were displaced following the creation of the Jewish state in 1948, a counterpoint to Israel's two weeks of jubilant celebrations. Though Bush has set a goal of reaching an Israeli-Palestinian deal before the end of his term in January, he did not mention the ongoing negotiations or how to resolve the thorniest disputes. Bin Laden said Western leaders were insincere in their expressed desire for Israeli-Palestinian peace and failed to criticize Israel. ``Peace talks that started 60 years ago are just meant to deceive the idiots,'' said bin Laden. ``After all the destruction and the killings ... your leaders talk about principles. This is unbearable.'' The terrorist leader mentioned former Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin, who he said ordered a Jewish militia to attack the Arab village of Deir Yassin in 1948. The attack during Israel's push for statehood killed more than 100 Arabs and forced the rest of the village to flee. ``Instead of punishing him (Begin) over his crimes ... he was awarded a Nobel prize,'' said bin Laden. Begin won the Nobel peace prize for negotiating a peace treaty with Egypt in 1979, Israel's first with an Arab nation. The Israeli leader shared the prize with former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, who was Begin's negotiating partner. Israel has only signed one other peace treaty with an Arab nation, Jordan. ``We will continue our struggle against the Israelis and their allies,'' said bin Laden. ``We are not going to give up an inch of the land of Palestine.'' Bin Laden's message Friday followed an audiotape released in March in which he lashed out at Palestinian peace negotiations with Israel. The March audiotape was the first time bin Laden spoke of the Palestinian question at length since the deteriorating situation in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip, where the Israeli military has been fighting with militants who fire rockets into southern Israel. Israel has been battling Hamas in Gaza since the Islamic militant group took control of the strip last June from followers of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. 05/16/08 06:48 EDT | | | | Alpha | | Posted: Sat May 17, 2008 1:40 am Post subject: |

| US Support for Israel's brutal oppression of the Palestinians was the primary motivation for the tragic attacks on the World Trade Center in 1993 and on 9/11 as well: Al-Qaida's No.2 urges holy war over Gaza Strip Associated Press 51 minutes ago Al-Qaida's top deputy Ayman al-Zawahri called on Muslims to launch holy war to break the siege of Gaza, in a new audio recording posted Wednesday on a militant Web site. In the 11-minute recording, a voice purportedly by Osama bin Laden's deputy spoke in Arabic and said the "salvation of the Muslim nation is through the march of its sons on the path of jihad." An accompanying banner said the message was issued to mark the 41st anniversary of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war, when over a period of six days from June 5, Israeli warplanes destroyed 400 aircraft belonging to Egypt, Syria, Jordan and Iraq — most of them sitting on airport tarmacs. Egypt lost the Sinai Peninsula and Gaza Strip; Syria lost the Golan Heights and Jordan lost the West Bank and east Jerusalem. Trying to minimize the shock and pain of the defeat, Arabs have long called the Six Day War the "naksa" — or "setback" in Arabic — but its impact remains a deep wound. In al-Zawahri's recording, entitled "In Memory of the Naksa... Break the Siege of Gaza," the al-Qaida deputy blamed Arab regimes for Arabs' 1967 debacle. Al-Zawahri said the Arab governments were "impotent and unable to protect the Muslim nation, its sanctuaries and its wealth." "The sons of the nation should break the shackles of the treacherous regimes and move to wage jihad which has become a duty," al-Zawahri said, referring to holy war. His message seemed especially directed at the militant Hamas Palestinian group which last June seized power in the coastal strip of Gaza from the more moderate supporters of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who were left in control of the West Bank as bloody inter-Palestinian clashes effectively split Palestinian territories in two. Hamas' Gaza seizure and its regular lobbying of rockets into Israel, prompted Israel to impose a blockade on the strip. In January, hundreds of thousands of Gazans streamed into Egypt after Hamas blew up a border wall between Egypt and Gaza, seeking to restock on food and supplies. Egypt later resealed the border, which has since opened only occasionally to allow humanitarian aid through. Egypt has also tried to broker a cease-fire between Hamas and Israel but the effort faltered after both Hamas and Israel failed to agree on a truce under which Hamas would stop firing missiles on Israeli villages and towns. In the recording, al-Zawahri also lashed out at Egyptian authorities, declaring Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his troops "criminal traitors" for perpetuating Israel's siege of Gaza by sealing it's own boundary with the strip. "You have the right to enter Egypt whenever you like, and destroy the treacherous siege," al-Zawahri told Gazans, appearing to be giving them a license for more violence. "Those who confront you should not blame anyone but themselves." Just hours before al-Zawahri's message was released, Abbas called for a renewed dialogue with Hamas in a televised address to the Palestinians. His aide Nimer Hamad said the "tragic situation in Gaza" required Abbas' call at this time. Hamas promptly welcomed Abbas' offer. Al-Zawahri often issues audio and video recordings, speaking on a wide range of topics. He has frequently discussed Palestinian issues. The Web is a key tool of al-Qaida's central leadership to inspire and direct sympathizers at a time when some terror experts question how much control they have over Islamic militants. | | | | | ©2002-2009 WarWithoutEnd.co.uk |
