| From: "Ronald" <rbleier@igc.org> To: "rbleier" <rbleier@igc.org> Subject: A black day Date: Wed, 3 Nov 2004 15:15:41 -0500 A Black Day by Ronald Bleier November 2, 2004 will go down as the blackest day in U.S. history, the re-election of the very worst president by far in our history. The extent of the damage is too great to calculate immediately, but certain things are already clear. 1. The economy. The hallmark of the Bush administration is ruthless extremism and the most careless irresponsibility. Perhaps nowhere is this more evident than in their ongoing destruction of the world’s most important economy. The New York Times printed an op ed about a year ago arguing that the markets were banking on the Democrats coming in to rescue our economy from the trade and account deficits and the looming mountain of unfunded liabilities. Now that such a rescue has been made impossible, and the Bush administration evidently committed to further damage through additional tax cuts, the defunding of social security, and more, it’s only a question of time before we experience a dramatic financial collapse. It’s social Darwinism at its cruelest and most painful. 2. The Bush administration is led by those who believe that war is bracing, that war is the essence of humanity. Their war fighting mentality dovetails with neocon interest in making the Middle East safe for Israel. Thus we have the war on Iraq which will now be conducted in the most destructive possible manner. The Bush administration is committed to retaining the 14 U.S. military bases there and to keeping any potentially anti -Israel faction from attaining power in Iraq. In other words, they are determined to resist democracy there as well as here. We can expect increased pressure against Iran and Syria and military action against them by the U.S. and/or Israel, and the inevitable fallout from such policies. 3. We can expect a continuation and intensification of the war on civil liberties and the continued war against the democratic process at home. We can expect to see more of Ashcroft’s ruthless malevolence – now on steroids. We’ve waved good bye to an independent Congress and now we can look forward to an even more supine Supreme Court and federal and states judiciary. 4. There is noting to prevent their continued rape of the environment and their ongoing dismantlement of the New Deal and social justice agenda. All this comes at a time when we are entering the age of peak oil and the onset of global warming, a moment in history that would require a firm, fair and judicious hand to bring us through a difficult transition. Instead we will have the most extreme, ruthless and irresponsible leadership to drive us into uncharted territory. It’s a real question how or if or in what state we will emerge four years from now. November 2nd has threatened the future of the U.S. and the world. Election Fraud See Democracy Now 11/3/04 (www.democracynow.org ) for Greg Palast’s theory that voter suppression in Ohio, including the trashing of tens of thousands of registration forms, etc., which he calls the non count of the vote was responsible for Bush’s victory in Ohio and his lead in New Mexico. But the non count of votes doesn’t account for the exit polling results which led Zogby to predict a Kerry victory by 313 to 213. The exit polling results showed Kerry winning Ohio by 4 points, and by 51-48 in Florida. Presumably the exit polling count voters, not non voters. What is required is an analysis of the extent of touch screen and other unverifiable voting in Florida and Ohio to see if fraud could account for the disparity of results. I’m not aware of anyone interested or capable of conducting such an investigation. http://www.nowarforisrael.com http://www.nogw.com/warforisrael.html | | | | Alpha | | Posted: Thu Nov 04, 2004 9:42 am Post subject: Bush Stole Election Through Rigging Electronic Voting Machin |
| Subject: Bush Stole Election Through Rigging Electronic Voting Machines Exit polls have not been so off since the 2002 election in Georgia. Huh? Now just wait a gaw darn second. TV pundits have already decalred that the discrepancy between the exit polls and the official balloting resulted from poor eixt polling. But the exit polls relied on modern techniques of scientific sampling that make exit polls accurate predictors of electoral outcomes. In fact, the only way to check the accuracy of electronic voting is through exit polls. So why has the mainstream media accepted the results of single source: votes counted by electronic voting machines made by compaines with close ties to the Bush campaign? ########### MUST READS! ########### Proving a fix is actually very simple and quick, so here it is http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&fo rum=132&topic_id=1292142&mesg_id=1292142 The assertion by pundits/Bushies that exit polling was 'way off', and thus, exit polls, which showed an easy Kerry victory in both Ohio and Florida, were incorrecty skewed and did not represent the electorate, is completely bogus. This is disproved in minutes by simply noting the entire rest of the suite of exit polls conducted by AP and distributed to the news media. View here: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/presiden... / Notice, if you will, that states with a narrow or wide Bush margin of victory NOT called Ohio or Florida, project perfectly. Missouri leans to Bush in exit polls, and leaned to him in the vote. Tennessee likewise was favorable to Bush in exit polls, and it showed in the final results with a clear Bush margin of victory. Pick a state, any state, there is not one single exit poll off by more than a few percentage points in any semi-competitive race. Not one. Except 2. Ohio and Florida, the latter of which has already been "awarded" to Bush, and the former, which appears to nearly be a lock for him as he is up 3 percentage points with 80 percent of the electorate tallied. George Bush's win in each of these 2 states is nowhere near what exit polls suggest. ### If this Election is Stolen, Will it be by Enough to Stop a Recount? by Lynn Landes November 1, 2004 http://www.dissidentvoice.org/Nov2004/Landes1101.htm Recounts are triggered by close elections. But, stealing elections and avoiding recounts is duck soup for the dishonest among us. Keep in mind that both mechanical and computerized voting machines have a long history of vote fraud and irregularities. However, never before have so few entities dominated the tabulation of the vote. Today, two voting machine companies with strong and well-documented ties to the Republican Party will count 80% of all votes in the upcoming election. These two companies, ES&S and Diebold, manufacture, sell and service both touchscreens and computerized ballot scanners. So, how can an election be stolen and recounts avoided? First, eliminate paper ballots. Thirty percent of all voters will use paperless computerized voting machines that are easy to rig and impossible to detect. Republicans in Congress successfully fought off legislation sponsored by Democrats in the House and Senate that would require voting machines to produce a paper trail. Even with this legislation, paper ballots were only to be used in case of a "close" election. Second, make sure the paper ballots that do exist are counted on computerized ballot scanners and not by-hand. This includes absentee ballots. Ballot scanners are also easy to rig and are owned by the same handful of corporations. Third, and most importantly, steal the election by enough electronically-tabulated votes so that a recount will not be triggered. ### Swing States and Electronic Voting Machines Corpwatch September 7th, 2004 http://www.corpwatch.org/print_article.php?&id=11517 Touch screen voting machines will account for approximately 30% of the votes cast in the U.S. elections this November. In 20 swing states, where the election is expected to be close, 14 states (representing over 200 electoral votes) will be using electronic voting, many for the first time. ### Controversy sure to follow flawed US presidential elections by Zafar Bangash Monday 01 November 2004 http://usa.mediamonitors.net/content/view/full/10936/ A number of computer experts have testified that they "have been able to hack into both Diebold's and Sequoia Voting Systems' voting machines" that are being used in the presidential race. Abbie Waldman Delozier and Vickie Karp, of Black Box Voting and the National Ballot Integrity Project Task Force respectively, confirmed this at a National Press Club conference in Washington in late September. Bev Harris, executive director of Black Box Voting, said: "We are able to use a hidden program for vote manipulation, which resides on Diebold's election software. This is a hidden feature enabled by a two-digit trigger (not a 'bug' or an accidental oversight; it's there on purpose)." ### Vote or Diebold: Company has right `touch' By Brett Arends Boston Herald November 3, 2004 http://news.bostonherald.com/election/view.bg?articleid=52322 It was prime time for Diebold. In total, up to 50,000 Diebold touch-screen voting machines as well as 20,000 scanners of paper ballots were used in 38 states across the country. ### Voting Machine Controversy by Julie Carr Smyth Cleveland Plain Dealer August 28, 2003 http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0828-08.htm The head of a company vying to sell voting machines in Ohio told Republicans in a recent fund-raising letter that he is "committed to helping Ohio deliver its electoral votes to the president next year." The Aug. 14 letter from Walden O'Dell, chief executive of Diebold Inc. - who has become active in the re-election effort of President Bush - prompted Democrats this week to question the propriety of allowing O'Dell's company to calculate votes in the 2004 presidential election. The letter went out the day before Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, also a Republican, was set to qualify Diebold as one of three firms eligible to sell upgraded electronic voting machines to Ohio counties in time for the 2004 election. ### All the President's Votes? A Quiet Revolution is Taking Place in US Politics. By the Time It's Over, the Integrity of Elections Will be in the Unchallenged, Unscrutinized Control of a Few Large - and Pro-Republican - Corporations. by Andrew Gumbel Independent http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/1013-01.htm Something very odd happened in the mid-term elections in Georgia last November. On the eve of the vote, opinion polls showed Roy Barnes, the incumbent Democratic governor, leading by between nine and 11 points. In a somewhat closer, keenly watched Senate race, polls indicated that Max Cleland, the popular Democrat up for re-election, was ahead by two to five points against his Republican challenger, Saxby Chambliss. ... then the results came in, and all of Georgia appeared to have been turned upside down. Barnes lost the governorship to the Republican, Sonny Perdue, 46 per cent to 51 per cent, a swing of as much as 16 percentage points from the last opinion polls. Cleland lost to Chambliss 46 per cent to 53, a last-minute swing of 9 to 12 points. Red-faced opinion pollsters suddenly had a lot of explaining to do and launched internal investigations. Now, weird things like this do occasionally occur in elections, and the figures, on their own, are not proof of anything except statistical anomalies worthy of further study. But in Georgia there was an extra reason to be suspicious. Last November, the state became the first in the country to conduct an election entirely with touchscreen voting machines... The machines, however, turned out to be anything but reliable. With academic studies showing the Georgia touchscreens to be poorly programmed, full of security holes and prone to tampering, and with thousands of similar machines from different companies being introduced at high speed across the country. The vote count was not conducted by state elections officials, but by the private company that sold Georgia the voting machines in the first place, under a strict trade-secrecy contract that made it not only difficult but actually illegal - on pain of stiff criminal penalties - for the state to touch the equipment or examine the proprietary software to ensure the machines worked properly. There was not even a paper trail to follow up. The machines were fitted with thermal printing devices that could theoretically provide a written record of voters' choices, but these were not activated. Consequently, recounts were impossible. Had Diebold Inc, the manufacturer, been asked to review the votes, all it could have done was program the computers to spit out the same data as before, flawed or not. Astonishingly, these are the terms under which America's top three computer voting machine manufacturers - Diebold, Sequoia and Election Systems and Software (ES&S) - have sold their products to election officials around the country. http://www.nov3.us | | | | Alpha | | Posted: Thu Nov 04, 2004 8:37 pm Post subject: *stolen election 2004 --let's do it right this time |
| From: "Ronald" <rbleier@igc.org> Add to Address Book To: "rbleier" <rbleier@igc.org> Subject: *stolen election 2004 --let's do it right this time Date: Thu, 4 Nov 2004 14:07:42 -0500 Friends: My initial impression from the summaries of the few articles below is that electronic voting in combination with several other means of voter suppression may have been responsible for Kerry’s loss in Florida and Ohio, and elsewhere –not to mention the possible loss of Senate and House seats. In all likelihood Kerry really won the election, in a possible landslide of more than 300 electoral votes as Zogby predicted. (In Ohio, minimal reporting would tell us in which counties the electronic voting machines were located, what the vote totals were and how they compared to the exit polling. The Times AP story on the issue merely said that electronic voting did not play an important role in Ohio!!! "Computer Scientists Cautious of E - Voting" http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/national/AP-ELN-E-Voting-Tested.html) 2000 and 2004 and beyond In one scenario playing round my head, the Bush team went into the 2000 election thinking that the more than 90,000 largely Democratic voters they scrubbed from the roles, and other voter suppression tactics, would be sufficient to put the state in their camp. Imagine their surprise when Gore still managed to come out ahead by a tiny amount. On election night, they improvised, giving instead a tiny lead for Bush – perhaps in their panic and surprise they dared do no more. The lesson they learned was apparently: we're going to do it right this time. Ensure that each state victory was by a respectable, unimpeachable margin and that the national total was more than a 50% majority. Despite the increased attention to voter integrity issues post 2000, the Bush forces still controlled the key state houses, Congress (for the most part) and the White House and were once again able to ensure unverifiable elections in 2002 and 2004. Kerry – in a hint of the discouraging disappointment he might have turned out as president – always eager not to offend -- did the country a great disservice by conceding the election without forcing a count of the provisional ballots. In all likelihood he would have lost, but had the count gone forward, important light would have been shed on the process and on voter integrity issues in Ohio and elsewhere. Now the issue is effectively buried, untouchable by the mainstream media, and Bush’s legitimacy is effectively conceded. Looking forward, there is still no power we can look to which might ensure verification of electronic voting, and a satisfactory resolution of other voter integrity issues in 2006 and 2008. --Ronald Bleier ----- Original Message ----- From: "Louis Posner" <lawline1@yahoo.com> To: <webmaster@stolenelection2004.com> Sent: Wednesday, November 03, 2004 9:31 PM Subject: [CitizensAgainstBush] Stolen Election 2004 > > Stolen Election 2004 > > In Election 2000, the Bush regime stole the election > and got away with it. See the following articles and posts: Surprising Pattern in FL counties by voting machine type by Kathy Dopp, Nov. 3, 2004 Detailed County by County analysis in Florida by voting machine type of expected votes based on voter registration of Democrats and Republicans as compared to actual recorded votes shows that Republicans picked up an extraordinary increase in votes only in those Counties which have optical scanner voting equipment. The disparities are so great that one comes up with the inescapable conclusion that Bush won Florida as a result of election rigging in Counties using the optical scanner voting equipment. In EVERY STATE that has paper audit trails on their E-Voting, the exit poll results match the actual results reported within the margin of error. Investigative journalist Greg Palast reports on the trashing of the election. Greg Palast, contributing editor to Harper's magazine, investigated the manipulation of the vote for BBC Television's Newsnight. | Subject: Are the Exit Polls Evidence of Electronic Vote Rigging? The discrepancy between exit polls and official vote counts (1) occurred ONLY in swing states where votes were counted electronically and without a paper trail and (2) the discrepancy favored Bush IN EVERY SINGLE CASE, a highly unlikely scenario. In other words, the exit polls consistently (mis)underestimated Bush votes only in swing states which used electronic voting machines to count the votes without a paper trail. This is prima facie evidence that the Bush stole the election through rigging the electronic vote counting. Black Box Voting (http://www.blackboxvoting.org) has filed a massive Freedom of Information Act lawsuit to obtain evidence of such fraud. But by the time such evidence is obtained the election will be long gone down the memory hole. ### (Remember: If malign parties have tampered with the electronic result, then our first, best -- and perhaps only -- indication of fraud will be a conflict between the exit poll data and the "official" results.) In the recent election in Venezuela, the government used exit polling to protect against electronic vote rigging. Here, in the US, if the exit polls differ from the electronic voting, the mainstream media immediately assumes that the exit polls are to blame, rather than evidence that vote rigging occurred. ### The Case For Fraud by Joseph Cannon November 3 2004 http://cannonfire.blogspot.com/ Exit polls published yesterday afternoon (by Slate and a number of blogs) gave this portrait of certain key results: OHIO: Kerry 50, Bush 49. FLORIDA: Kerry 50, Bush 49. NEW MEXICO: Kerry 51, Bush 48. At times, the poll data was even more favorable to Kerry in these three key states. No exit poll showed a Bush lead in any of these states. Here are grounds for suspicion. Electronic voting machines figured heavily in the final tabulation of the results in Ohio, Florida, and New Mexico. Moreover, in all three, paper audit trails do not exist. These states therefore offered the best, safest opportunity for manipulation of the final count. Question 1: Even if we grant the potential inaccuracy of exit polls, how likely is it that in all three cases the inaccuracy would show a "non-existent" Democratic advantage? Why doesn't the discrepancy ever work in the other direction? Question 2: Why did problems afflict exit polling in three swing states that have widespread computerized voting with no paper trails? In other states, the exit polling matched the final results rather well. In Nevada, Illinois, and New Hampshire, computer votes do have paper trails -- and in those instances, the exit polls tracked the final totals. To recap: In three states with no paper trails, we have exit poll/final tally disagreement. In three states with paper trails, we have exit poll/final tally congruence. Coincidence? Intriguingly, CNN's exit poll results underwent a mysterious revision not explained by an increased number of respondents. Black Box Voting plans to file the world's largest FOIA request to uncover the internals of the compu-vote. Don't presume that such an inquest will come up goose eggs: Such a request filed in King County, Washington on Sept. 15, following the primary election six weeks ago, uncovered an internal audit log containing a three-hour deletion on election night; "trouble slips" revealing suspicious modem activity; and profound problems with security, including accidental disclosure of critically sensitive remote access information to poll workers, office personnel, and even, in a shocking blunder, to Black Box Voting activists. Today's Boston Globe expands on some of the points I've made here: Although some of John F. Kerry's leads in the state exit polls narrowed during the course of the day yesterday, there was a significant discrepancy between the actual vote total and the polling numbers, particularly in two states believed to be keys to the outcome. While the exit data had Kerry winning Florida and Ohio by a narrow margin, the actual tabulated vote late last night had Bush carrying Florida by about five points and winning Ohio by two. In addition, a projected Kerry win of about five points in Wisconsin turned into a very tight contest, and what was projected as a close race in North Carolina turned into a double-digit win for Bush. Again: Note the pattern. Why do the exit polls always go wrong in the same way? Pundits who assail these polls never address this question. Logic tells us that about half the exit polls would show "false positives" for the Republican side. But in the past two presidential elections, they have almost always (should I strike out the word "almost"?) delivered "false positives" for Democrats only. The simplest explanation: The Democratic "false positives" are not, in fact, false. The computerized tally is false. Remember: If malign parties have tampered with the electronic result, then our first, best -- and perhaps only -- indication of fraud will be a conflict between the exit poll data and the "official" results. As for what to do about it: May I at least suggest a visit to www.blackboxvoting.org? ### Exit polls and 'actual' results don't match; Evoting states show greater discrepancy Raw Story 11/3/2004 http://www.bluelemur.com/index.php?p=388 An analysis of the original AP exit polling, which showed Kerry with a tighter margin and leading in myriad states, raises serious questions about the authenticity of the popular vote in several key states, RAW STORY has learned. Since the actual outcome of the votes have been called, AP has changed nearly all of their exit polling to tighten the margin. A reason has not been given. The analysis, first conducted by a poster at the popular Democratic Underground, suggests possible voter fraud in states that do not have electronic voting receipts. An exit poll involves asking someone after they walk out of the election booth who they voted for. While not a guide for proving results, it can be a mechanism for ensuring voting accuracy and flagging potential fraud. Exit polls were recently used in Venezuela to ensure the vote was accurate and legitimate. Perhaps more importantly, while exit polling is unreliable, the odds of President Bush having gaining an advantage from every exit poll in swing states is an extremely improbable coincidence. In Florida, Bush led exit polling by CNN of more than 3 million voters by just 5355 votes. Yet he led by 326,000 in the end result. This morning, CNN changed their exit polling to favor Bush, saying that had overweighted African American voters. In Wisconsin, where exit polls put Kerry up seven percent, Bush has a lead of one percent, an unexplained difference of eight percent. In New Mexico, Kerry led Bush by 3.8 percent, yet Bush leads Kerry by 3 percent in actual reported voting. In Minnesota, where a new law sharply restricts reporters' access to polls, Kerry led 9.6 percent in exit polling. Actual voting counts found that Bush trailed by 5 percent, with a 5 percent discrepancy favoring Bush. Ohio, which does have paper trail capability but does not mandate receipts, had exits showed Kerry and Bush in a dead heat; in the near-final results, Bush led by three percent. Exit polls put Kerry up by 8 percent in Michigan; actual results show Bush trailing by just 3 percent. Two states with mandated paper trails for electronic voting were within 0.1 percent margin of error. New Hampshire, which has electronic voting but provides verified receipts, exit polling is within 0.1 percent of the actual vote. Kerry led by 3 percent in exit polling, and 2.9 percent in the actual vote. Nevada, which also has electronic voting and mandated paper trails, had a variance of 0.1 percent as well. Kerry led the actual vote by 1.3 percent; the exit polls had him up by 1.2 percent. Maine, the final state for which analysis of exit polling was conducted before the AP "resampled" their data, was in the Kerry column by 7.5 percent; the end result put Kerry up 8 percent, a variance of 0.5 percent. Maine has no electronic voting. Kerry does not gain by any significant margin in actual voting in any state for which analysis has been conducted, RAW STORY found. Exit polling accurately predicted the results in most states with very little error. Where there were discrepancies, they were significant in the +5 percent range, and always favored Bush. ### E-voting 'success' unverifiable -- and that's the problem Without a paper trail, there's no way to verify e-voting's accuracy by Sharon Machlis COMPUTERWORLD NOVEMBER 03, 2004 http://www.computerworld.com/printthis/2004/0,4814,97193,00.html The difference between exit polling and final reported numbers was an early warning signal of the fiasco to come in Florida 2000. Whatever one thinks the outcome of a full recount in Florida would have been four years ago, the exit poll gap certainly highlighted the fact that some Palm Beach County voters thought they voted for Al Gore (and would have told exit pollers that) but actually voted for Pat Buchanan, thanks to a confusing "butterfly ballot." It's that history which fuels suspicions that there may be something more than bad exit polling methodology to explain this year's exit poll/vote result differential in Florida and Ohio. ### DEJA VU???? Greg Palast November 04, 2004 Bush won Ohio by 136,483 votes. In the United States, about 3 percent of votes cast are voided—known as “spoilage” in election jargon—because the ballots cast are inconclusive. Today, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports there are a total of 247,672 votes not counted in Ohio, if you add the 92,672 discarded votes plus the 155,000 provisional ballots. I know you don't want to hear it. You can't face one more hung chad. But I don't have a choice. As a journalist examining that messy sausage called American democracy, it's my job to tell you who got the most votes in the deciding states. Tuesday, in Ohio and New Mexico, it was John Kerry. Most voters in Ohio thought they were voting for Kerry. At 1:05 a.m. Wednesday morning, CNN's exit poll showed Kerry beating Bush among Ohio women by 53 percent to 47 percent. The exit polls were later combined with—and therefore contaminated by—the tabulated results, ultimately becoming a mirror of the apparent actual vote. [To read about the skewing of exit polls to conform to official results, click here .] Kerry also defeated Bush among Ohio's male voters 51 percent to 49 percent. Unless a third gender voted in Ohio, Kerry took the state. So what's going on here? Answer: the exit polls are accurate. Pollsters ask, "Who did you vote for?" Unfortunately, they don't ask the crucial, question, "Was your vote counted?" The voters don't know. Here's why. Although the exit polls show that most voters in Ohio punched cards for Kerry-Edwards, thousands of these votes were simply not recorded. This was predictable and it was predicted. [See TomPaine.com, "An Election Spoiled Rotten," November 1.] Once again, at the heart of the Ohio uncounted vote game are, I'm sorry to report, hanging chads and pregnant chads, plus some other ballot tricks old and new. The election in Ohio was not decided by the voters but by something called "spoilage." Typically in the United States, about 3 percent of the vote is voided, just thrown away, not recorded. When the bobble-head boobs on the tube tell you Ohio or any state was won by 51 percent to 49 percent, don't you believe it ... it has never happened in the United States, because the total never reaches a neat 100 percent. The television totals simply subtract out the spoiled vote. Whose Votes Are Discarded? And not all votes spoil equally. Most of those votes, say every official report, come from African-American and minority precincts. (To learn more, click here.) We saw this in Florida in 2000. Exit polls showed Gore with a plurality of at least 50,000, but it didn't match the official count. That's because the official, Secretary of State Katherine Harris, excluded 179,855 spoiled votes. In Florida, as in Ohio, most of these votes lost were cast on punch cards where the hole wasn't punched through completely—leaving a 'hanging chad,'—or was punched extra times. Whose cards were discarded? Expert statisticians investigating spoilage for the government calculated that 54 percent of the ballots thrown in the dumpster were cast by black folks. (To read the report from the U.S. Civil Rights Commission, click here .) And here's the key: Florida is terribly typical. The majority of ballots thrown out (there will be nearly 2 million tossed out from Tuesday's election) will have been cast by African American and other minority citizens. So here we go again. Or, here we don't go again. Because unlike last time, Democrats aren't even asking Ohio to count these cards with the not-quite-punched holes (called "undervotes" in the voting biz). Nor are they demanding we look at the "overvotes" where voter intent may be discerned. Ohio is one of the last states in America to still use the vote-spoiling punch-card machines. And the Secretary of State of Ohio, J. Kenneth Blackwell, wrote before the election, “the possibility of a close election with punch cards as the state’s primary voting device invites a Florida-like calamity.” But this week, Blackwell, a rabidly partisan Republican, has warmed up to the result of sticking with machines that have a habit of eating Democratic votes. When asked if he feared being this year's Katherine Harris, Blackwell noted that Ms. Fix-it's efforts landed her a seat in Congress. Exactly how many votes were lost to spoilage this time? Blackwell's office, notably, won't say, though the law requires it be reported. Hmm. But we know that last time, the total of Ohio votes discarded reached a democracy-damaging 1.96 percent. The machines produced their typical loss—that's 110,000 votes—overwhelmingly Democratic. The Impact Of Challenges First and foremost, Kerry was had by chads. But the Democrat wasn't punched out by punch cards alone. There were also the 'challenges.' That's a polite word for the Republican Party of Ohio's use of an old Ku Klux Klan technique: the attempt to block thousands of voters of color at the polls. In Ohio, Wisconsin and Florida, the GOP laid plans for poll workers to ambush citizens under arcane laws—almost never used—allowing party-designated poll watchers to finger individual voters and demand they be denied a ballot. The Ohio courts were horrified and federal law prohibits targeting of voters where race is a factor in the challenge. But our Supreme Court was prepared to let Republicans stand in the voting booth door. In the end, the challenges were not overwhelming, but they were there. Many apparently resulted in voters getting these funky "provisional" ballots—a kind of voting placebo—which may or may not be counted. Blackwell estimates there were 175,000; Democrats say 250,000. Pick your number. But as challenges were aimed at minorities, no one doubts these are, again, overwhelmingly Democratic. Count them up, add in the spoiled punch cards (easy to tally with the human eye in a recount), and the totals begin to match the exit polls; and, golly, you've got yourself a new president. Remember, Bush won by 136,483 votes in Ohio. Enchanted State's Enchanted Vote Now, on to New Mexico, where a Kerry plurality—if all votes are counted—is more obvious still. Before the election, in TomPaine.com, I wrote, "John Kerry is down by several thousand votes in New Mexico, though not one ballot has yet been counted." How did that happen? It's the spoilage, stupid; and the provisional ballots. CNN said George Bush took New Mexico by 11,620 votes. Again, the network total added up to that miraculous, and non-existent, '100 percent' of ballots cast. New Mexico reported in the last race a spoilage rate of 2.68 percent, votes lost almost entirely in Hispanic, Native American and poor precincts—Democratic turf. From Tuesday's vote, assuming the same ballot-loss rate, we can expect to see 18,000 ballots in the spoilage bin. Spoilage has a very Democratic look in New Mexico. Hispanic voters in the Enchanted State, who voted more than two to one for Kerry, are five times as likely to have their vote spoil as a white voter. Counting these uncounted votes would easily overtake the Bush 'plurality.' Already, the election-bending effects of spoilage are popping up in the election stats, exactly where we'd expect them: in heavily Hispanic areas controlled by Republican elections officials. Chaves County, in the "Little Texas" area of New Mexico, has a 44 percent Hispanic population, plus African Americans and Native Americans, yet George Bush "won" there 68 percent to 31 percent. I spoke with Chaves' Republican county clerk before the election, and he told me that this huge spoilage rate among Hispanics simply indicated that such people simply can't make up their minds on the choice of candidate for president. Oddly, these brown people drive across the desert to register their indecision in a voting booth. Now, let's add in the effect on the New Mexico tally of provisional ballots. "They were handing them out like candy," Albuquerque journalist Renee Blake reported of provisional ballots. About 20,000 were given out. Who got them? Santiago Juarez who ran the "Faithful Citizenship" program for the Catholic Archdiocese in New Mexico, told me that "his" voters, poor Hispanics, whom he identified as solid Kerry supporters, were handed the iffy provisional ballots. Hispanics were given provisional ballots, rather than the countable kind "almost religiously," he said, at polling stations when there was the least question about a voter's identification. Some voters, Santiago said, were simply turned away. Your Kerry Victory Party So we can call Ohio and New Mexico for John Kerry—if we count all the votes. But that won't happen. Despite the Democratic Party's pledge, the leadership this time gave in to racial disenfranchisement once again. Why? No doubt, the Democrats know darn well that counting all the spoiled and provisional ballots will require the cooperation of Ohio's Secretary of State, Blackwell. He will ultimately decide which spoiled and provisional ballots get tallied. Blackwell, hankering to step into Kate Harris' political pumps, is unlikely to permit anything close to a full count. Also, Democratic leadership knows darn well the media would punish the party for demanding a full count. What now? Kerry won, so hold your victory party. But make sure the shades are down: it may be become illegal to demand a full vote count under PATRIOT Act III. I used to write a column for the Guardian papers in London. Several friends have asked me if I will again leave the country. In light of the failure—a second time—to count all the votes, that won't be necessary. My country has left me. | | | | Alpha | | Posted: Fri Nov 05, 2004 2:28 am Post subject: Impeachment: Now More than Ever! |

Via NY Transfer News Collective * All the News that Doesn't Fit sent by Francis Boyle - Nov 4, 2004 IMPEACHMENT: NOW MORE THAN EVER! Removal of George W. Bush through the electoral process has failed. Despite exposure of systematic lying concerning Iraqi WMD and connection to al-Qaeda, George W. Bush has been returned to the US presidency by a majority of voters convinced of his moral and leadership qualities. But the legal case for impeachment remains, and offers clarity and recourse. In October 2002, following speeches by Vice President Cheney calling for a preventive war against Iraq, Professor Francis A. Boyle, a leading US expert in international law, set up a national campaign to impeach Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and Ashcroft. On March 11, 2003, Congressman John Conyers, ranking member of the House judiciary committee that has jurisdiction over any bill of impeachment, called for a meeting in Washington, DC to discuss introducing a draft bill of impeachment. Forty to fifty of his top legal advisors met with Boyle and former Attorney General Ramsey Clark, and weighed and reviewed the case for impeachment. The case was argued on its merits: violations of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, Human Rights, the UN Charter, international law, etc. There is, today, a second, revised draft bill of impeachment sitting on Capitol Hill, ready to go. With an expanded military campaign imminent and the prospect of World War III looming on the horizon, a powerful nationwide movement to impeach George W. Bush is only a matter of time. What are the historical, legal and policy issues which are inexorably moving the US towards such a crux? DESTROYING WORLD ORDER: US Imperialism in the Middle East Before and After September 11 by Francis A. Boyle Boyle's hard-hitting analysis reveals a history of American intervention which has led to havoc in the region and destabilization of the international system as a whole. He examines U.S. assistance to Iraq during the Iran/Iraq war, U.S. conduct of the 1990 Persian Gulf War and the recent wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in relation to their violation of the of the laws of neutrality, humanitarian law, the laws of war-and the law of the U.S. Constitution. By the presidency of George W. Bush, U.S. policy had evolved to a public assertion of the right to preemptive strike, and its actual implementation. The concluding chapter provides a guide to impeaching President George W. Bush for lying in leading the nation to war. "In international legal terms, the Bush Jr. administration should be viewed as constituting an ongoing criminal conspiracy under international criminal law in violation of the Nuremberg Charter, the Nuremberg Judgment, and the Nuremberg Principles, due to its formulation and undertaking of war policies which are legally akin to those perpetrated by the Nazi regime in pre-World War II Germany." Francis A. Boyle, from Destroying World Order Francis A. Boyle is a leading American professor, practitioner and advocate of international law. He was responsible for drafting the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989, the American implementing legislation for the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention. He served on the Board of Directors of Amnesty International (1988-1992), and represented Bosnia-Herzegovina at the World Court. Professor Boyle teaches international law at the University of Illinois, Champaign and is author of, inter alia, The Criminality of Nuclear Deterrence, Defending Civil Resistance Under International Law, The Future of International Law and American Foreign Policy, Foundations of World Order: The Legalist Approach to International Relations 1898-1921. | THE END IS UPON US November 3, 2004 by: S.R. Shearer "Everything faded into mist. The past was erased, the erasure was forgotten, the lie became the truth." - George Orwell, 1984 INTRODUCTION This morning John Kerry conceded the election of 2004 to President George Bush. Bush has won - and he has triumphed BIG TIME (by 3.5 million in the popular vote). Most political pundits acknowledge the fact that Bush's victory came as a result of the massive support he received from the Religious Right. Several months before the election, Noam Chomsky of MIT cautioned his allies on the Left - most of whom smugly believed that Kerry would win the election - not to underestimate the power of the Religious Right. He wrote in the magazine International Socialist Review (September - October, 2004): "The popular constituency of ... Bush ... is the ... fundamentalist religious sector in the country, WHICH IS HUGE. He continued: "THERE IS NOTHING LIKE IT IN ANY OTHER INDUSTRIAL COUNTRY (in the West). The Kerry people don't have that constituency. They would like to have it, but they are never going to appeal to it much." He went on to warn people that if Bush won he would have to - "... throw them (i.e., the Christian Right) RED MEAT to keep them in line ... and throwing RED MEAT to that constituency is very dangerous for the world, because it means VIOLENCE AND AGGRESSION not only for the world, but also for this country: it means harming civil liberties in a very serious way." And what is the "RED MEAT" that Bush intends to throw to the "Christian Right?" It's nothing less than - The Construction of a so-called "Christian State" in the United States. The creation of a "Gestapo Apparatus" to ensure the survival of the new state. The destruction of Christianity's hated enemy in this country, the "Secular-Humanist" Left. The destruction of Christianity's 1,500 year-old enemy, Islam. [Please see our articles, "The Birth Of A Christian-Police State," "John Ashcroft, Theodore Olson and the New National Security State," "The Utility of Police Brutality in the Elites War Against the Poor," Radical Islam," and "The Watchers Are Watching You."] THE VULTURES ARE GATHERING God help us all! How can Christians (so-called) believe in such things? - i.e., that the "Prince of Peace" would have ANYTHING to do with the bloodshed and slaughter inherent in such a scheme. Yes! - the Bible foretells of killing and carnage in the "end of days," but that butchery is connected to the construction of the Kingdom of Antichrist (i.e., "Babylon the Great"), not with the Millennial Kingdom of Jesus. If there is butchery and bloodshed to be found, be sure that it is NOT connected to Christ, but to Antichrist. The Bible says, "Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will be gathered." (Matt. 24:28) If you want to know whose kingdom Bush and his cohorts in the Religious Right are constructing, look for the corpses (bloodshed). And if you find the elites and their BOOTLICKERS in the Religious Right near where the corpses are located, then you can be sure that they are the VULTURES (i.e., the minions of the Devil) spoken of in Matt. 24:28. IS IT THAT HARD TO SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING? So I say again, Is it that hard to see what's happening? NO! - it's not. Christians don't see because they don't want to see, fulfilling the words of Christ when He said, "For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." (Matt. 13:15) It's the same kind of "dullness of hearing" and blindness that permitted Christians like Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell and D. James Kennedy to embrace the "slaughter of innocents" in Latin America during the Contra Wars, and embrace what R.W. Apple, Jr. calls the "Legacy of Reagan" without at the same time being able to pick out the menacing figure of John Dimitri Negroponte lurking in the background, a man who is, without a doubt, one of the "VULTURES" foretold in Matt. 24:28). [Please see our article, "The Horror of John Dimitri Negroponte and Everything He Represents."] EVERYTHING HAS FADED INTO THE MIST However, the horror that Negroponte visited on the people of Central America during the Reagan presidency is now effaced from history. It's as if all that horror didn't happen, lending credence to the words of Orwell when he said: "Everything has faded into mist. The past has been erased, the erasure has been forgotten, the lie has become the truth." [For a glimpse into what was going on in Central America when Negroponte was there, I recommend seeing Oliver Stone's Salvador, you can rent it at any "Block Buster" outlet. There is some nudity and a lot of foul language - but so what! It's still worth seeing.] It's no accident or quirk of history that Negroponte is now the American proconsul in Iraq appointed by Bush to oversee the growing mound of corpses in Iraq just as he did so many years ago in Central America. He's very good at that. The trouble for Christians is that this time he is doing it LITERALLY in the midst of Babylon, in the land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. That should mean something to Christians. But just as the American people have conveniently forgotten who Negroponte is, Christians in the United States have forgotten the Prophetic Scriptures! It's as if the warning of the Scriptures concerning the "End of Days" has been erased from the Bible. It no longer exists; the erasure is not remembered, and the lie has become the truth. It's no wonder, then, that Christians are so unable to decipher what is so plainly occurring right before their very eyes in Iraq: the fact that it is their army that is today on the plains of Shinar, in the land between the rivers, INDICATING IN POINT OF FACT - BOTH FIGURATIVELY AND LITERALLY - THAT AMERICA IS "BABYLON THE GREAT" - not Europe, not the U.N., nor any other nation or combination of nations. A HEADLONG RUSH TOWARD ARMAGEDDON Brothers and sisters, listen to me here (and I have special reference to those of you in Antipas): As most of you know, I had desperately hoped for a Kerry victory if only because such an outcome would have gained us some time. It seemed to me that most Christians - even those connected to Antipas - were simply not prepared to accept the fact that we are now at the "end of time;" that they were not prepared, as a result, to take MEANINGFUL ACTION with regard to their increasingly precarious situation. Consequently I had anxiously besought the Lord for more time. [Please see our articles, "At the Crossroads: the Election of 2004" and "$3 Trillion and the Bush, Kerry Campaigns for the Presidency: What It Means for Us as Christians."] However, it was not to be. The Lord will not be "put off" any longer: WE ARE NOW IN A HEADLONG RUSH TOWARD ARMAGEDDON. The fact is, whether we are prepared or not, whether we have our "ducks in order" or not, whether our loved ones are prepared to follow us or not, whether we have any money or not, whether our business affairs are "wrapped up" or not, PROPHECY HAS AT LAST CAUGHT UP WITH US. THE NEXT "BIG EVENT" The next big event will most likely be another "manufactured 9/11 event" analogous to Hitler's "Reichstag Fire" through which the borders will be sealed, the draft will be imposed and escape from the United States will become very difficult if not impossible - especially for those of draft age - both male and female. And make no mistake about it here! Bush needs a HUGE ARMY to ensure victory in his "War on Terrorism" (so-called). [Please see our article "A Woman Riding a Beast Going Forth Conquering and to Conquer. "] PROPHECY TELLS US WHICH WAY TO GO In connection with all this, I must somberly warn you, prophecy REQUIRES you to take action. You cannot remain passive in the face of prophecy. If you do so, you make prophecy of no effect. Prophecy is like a road sign saying: "Slow down, sharp right hand turn ahead!" But if you fail to heed the sign, if you fail to slow down before you get to the turn, it will be too late to brake once you finally get there, and you will surely slide off the road and crash. Like a road sign, prophecy tells you things before they happen so that you can take evasive action before events catch up with you. If you wait until they finally overtake you, it will be too late to do anything - you will crash! Watch, therefore, for the "signs of the times," and don’t wait to take action. You may wait too long! Jesus said, "... When it is evening, ye say, It will be fair weather: for the sky is red. And in the morning, it will be foul weather today: for the sky is red and lowering. O ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky; but can ye not discern the signs of the times?" (Matt. 16:2-3) And Paul warns us, "But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness. Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober." (I Thess. 5:4-6) DON'T THINK THAT GOD WILL GIVE YOU A "SECOND CHANCE" Believe me when I tell you that God is today bending over the parapet of heaven and SHRIEKING out a warning to each and everyone of you: "Do not be overtaken by the events of the end of the age." If you do so, God will NOT come back for you. He didn't do it for the "rich man" in Matt. 19:16-23, and the chances are very slim that He will do it for you! As I have said so many times before, I realize that this is precisely the kind of attitude that gets me labeled a "Jim Jones," but any "teller of the truth" is going to be labeled that these days. So what? People act as if - somehow or other - they have hurt my feelings by not accepting what I have to say. But my feelings aren't hurt. They've not hurt me; they are the ones who someday will be hurt, not me. The Bible is COMMANDING you to take action; it is telling you - "... Today if ye will hear his (i.e., God's) voice, "Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: "When your fathers tempted (i.e., tested) me, proved me, and saw my works forty years. "Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said, They do alway err in their heart; and they have not known my ways. "So I sware in my wrath, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER INTO MY REST. "TAKE HEED, BRETHREN, LEST THERE BE IN ANY OF YOU AN EVIL HEART OF UNBELIEF, IN DEPARTING FROM THE LIVING GOD." (Heb. 3:7-12) OUR FAITH IS ON THE LINE Our faith is on the line now, and we shall see whether it is for real or not. We are going to be tested, and the test is not going to be a hypothetical one; it is going to be for REAL. [We urge you to read Chapter 11 of the Antipas Papers, "Tribulation and Judgment," for a scriptural explanation of the coming "test."] The question to be answered is this: Are you the kind of person who has the courage of your convictions? It seems a trite saying, but it's true: This life doesn't go on forever - and after that, the Judgment (Heb. 9:27). In the light of that, you would do well to remember the words of Christ when He said, "... whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven." (Matt. 10:33). [And do not think that your supposed "Christianity" will spare you here; that God will overlook your cowardice. He won't!] More next time! Until then, God bless you, S.R. | Date: Fri, 5 Nov 2004 12:51:30 EST Subject: More information Never Say Die-bold: So You Don't Think the Bush Campaign Stole This Election? Think Again If you're looking for one word to sum up the way the Bush-Cheney campaign stole another election Tuesday besides obvious ones like "cheated," try this one: Diebold. The Ohio electronic voting systems company, owned by a partisan Bush fund-raiser who promised to "deliver" Ohio to Bush as Jeb Bush promised Florida, reportedly discarded many votes for Democrat John Kerry in that key battleground state. Ohio’s own version of Katherine Harris, Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, made decisions to favor Bush, such as limiting ballot machines in Democratic precincts to keep lines long and force some people to leave in frustration, even as he shilled for Bush as co-chair of his campaign. Ohio included a version of the Florida butterfly ballot that misled voters into casting votes for Bush and dirty tricks and suppression of votes similar to what occurred in Florida. And if you don’t think electronic machines can be manipulated, read about a West Texas county which first reported landslide wins for two Republican commissioners in 2002. But the next day, workers discovered a defective computer chip in the scanner system, and after recounts, the Democrats actually won by wide margins. http://www.opednews.com/thoreau_110404_diebold.htm  NOTE: In the column, the link to Black Box Voting should be http://BlackBoxVoting.org/ Here are some other relevant sites and articles: http://www.Nov3.US/ http://www.michaelmoore.com/electionwatch/ http://www.alternet.org/election04oh/20384/ http://cleveland.indymedia.org/features/election_protests/ http://www.tompaine.com/articles/kerry_won.php http://www.gnn.tv/users/user.php?id=46 http://ilcaonline.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=866 http://www.commondreams.org/headlines03/0828-08.htm  | | | | Alpha | | Posted: Sat Nov 06, 2004 6:07 pm Post subject: Glitch gave Bush extra votes in Ohio |
| http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/11/05/voting.problems.ap/index.html Glitch gave Bush extra votes in Ohio Friday, November 5, 2004 Posted: 4:15 PM EST (2115 GMT) COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- An error with an electronic voting system gave President Bush 3,893 extra votes in suburban Columbus, elections officials said. Franklin County's unofficial results had Bush receiving 4,258 votes to Democrat John Kerry's 260 votes in a precinct in Gahanna. Records show only 638 voters cast ballots in that precinct. Bush actually received 365 votes in the precinct, Matthew Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections, told The Columbus Dispatch. State and county election officials did not immediately respond to requests by The Associated Press for more details about the voting system and its vendor, and whether the error, if repeated elsewhere in Ohio, could have affected the outcome. Bush won the state by more than 136,000 votes, according to unofficial results, and Kerry conceded the election on Wednesday after acknowledging that 155,000 provisional ballots yet to be counted in Ohio would not change the result. (Full Ohio results) The Secretary of State's Office said Friday it could not revise Bush's total until the county reported the error. The Ohio glitch is among a handful of computer troubles that have emerged since Tuesday's elections. (Touchscreen voting troubles reported) In one North Carolina county, more than 4,500 votes were lost because officials mistakenly believed a computer that stored ballots electronically could hold more data than it did. And in San Francisco, a malfunction with custom voting software could delay efforts to declare the winners of four races for county supervisor. In the Ohio precinct in question, the votes are recorded onto a cartridge. On one of the three machines at that precinct, a malfunction occurred in the recording process, Damschroder said. He could not explain how the malfunction occurred. Damschroder said people who had seen poll results on the election board's Web site called to point out the discrepancy. The error would have been discovered when the official count for the election is performed later this month, he said. The reader also recorded zero votes in a county commissioner race on the machine. Workers checked the cartridge against memory banks in the voting machine and each showed that 115 people voted for Bush on that machine. With the other machines, the total for Bush in the precinct added up to 365 votes. Meanwhile, in San Francisco, a glitch occurred with software designed for the city's new "ranked-choice voting," in which voters list their top three choices for municipal offices. If no candidate gets a majority of first-place votes outright, voters' second and third-place preferences are then distributed among candidates who weren't eliminated in the first round. (E-vote goes smoothly, but experts skeptical) When the San Francisco Department of Elections tried a test run on Wednesday of the program that does the redistribution, some of the votes didn't get counted and skewed the results, director John Arntz said. "All the information is there," Arntz said. "It's just not arriving the way it was supposed to." A technician from the Omaha, Neb. company that designed the software, Election Systems & Software Inc., was working to diagnose and fix the problem. | | | | | ©2002-2009 WarWithoutEnd.co.uk |
