For 22 years the Israelis occupied southern Lebanon and during this period there was never any senior U.S. officials giving Israel an ultimatum. Israel has illegally occupied Gaza, the West Bank, and east Jerusalem for more than 37 years but never has any senior U.S. official given Israel an ultimatum. Israel has illegally occupied Syria's Golan Heights for the same 37 years but senior U.S. officials have never given Israel an ultimatum. The only ultimatum given is to Syria to leave Lebanon even though the Lebanese government invites Syria to stay. Then the U.S. government says its Middle East Policy is is a fair and unbiased policy. Do these people think we're that stupid to believe such garbage? These are the same people who told us that Iraq was a threat to the United States and had accumulated weapons of mass destruction. Neither Iraq nor Syria is, or has been, a threat to the United States. The only threat that they may have been is a threat to Israel's superior military power in the Middle East and this threat has caused the lives of more than 1000 American men and women and over $200 billion U.S. taxpayer money. When will America learn to get tough with the real threat to peace in the world? It's not Iraq, or Iran, nor is it Syria. The real threat to peace in the world is Israel and the only people who can't understand it is the people running our government. The rest of the world recently chose Israel as the "biggest threat to world peace." Now, if we can only get this message to where it really counts.

A senior US official urged Syria on Saturday to withdraw its troops from Lebanon and stop interfering in internal Lebanese affairs.
William J. Burns, the US assistant secretary of State for the Near East, also said Syria must take "concrete action" in cooperating with the US-led war on terrorism by halting support for militant Palestinian factions based in Damascus.
"We underscored our deep concern over Syrian intervention in the Lebanese political process and reiterated that, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1559, Syria must end its interference in Lebanese internal affairs, withdraw its forces from Lebanon and allow the Lebanese armed forces and government to establish their authority throughout Lebanon," Burns told reporters after a two-hour meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
Burns' visit came amid strained Syrian-US relations and more than a week after a divided Security Council passed a resolution demanding foreign forces leave Lebanon and genuine presidential elections be held. The draft for the resolution was submitted by the US and France following news that the Lebanese parliament, under pressure from Syria, was keen on amending the constitution to extend the term of pro-Syrian President Emile Lahoud by another three years.
Earlier, Burns' deputy Elizabeth Dibble was quoted as saying in an interview with the Beirut-based As-Safir that the US is considering additional sanctions against Syria if it ignores UN demands to cease interfering in internal Lebanese affairs.
The Lebanese newspaper An-Nahar reported that Syria is planning to redeploy its troops in Lebanon within two days, removing 10,000 of its 18,000 troops stationed there.
Burns has cancelled his visit to Israel and the Palestinian Authority, which had been set for the purpose of "diplomatic maintenance," Israel Radio reported Friday morning.
Burns, currently on a regional tour of a number of Arab capitals, cancelled his stops in Israel and the PA following a cancellation announcement of an upcoming meeting of the Liaison Committee - which largely funds the Palestinian Authority – in New York.
The meeting, which has been scheduled for the end of September, was called off when the Palestinian Authority refused to participate.
Palestinian leaders decided to boycott the New York conference because its agenda did not include the road map and instead focused on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's disengagement plan and the possibility of funding new bypass roads for settlers in the West Bank. | |  | | | ©2002-2009 WarWithoutEnd.co.uk |
