a flexible constitution is far more suitable for a fast changing modern society. It means rules can be altered when needed and we live by modern rules rather than ones made for the generations that came before us.

pls go back on the thread.

As the same as a called constitutional Convention may do under Article 5 by our own rules.
Parliament can be declared open which IMO a luxury our own Congress is immune.
You really should study and know the subject before you open your ignorant pie hole with your ridiculous comparisons.

A constitution is about basic values and principles.

Do basic values and principles change?

Should they be subject to change with each election???

A law/bill has much different criteria for passage than a Constitutional convention has for changing our Constitution..

As I posted above...

Another smart 180 from Mr Living Breathing Goddamn Piece of Paper. Contrary to your latest generalisation of convenience, Black's Law Dictionary (8th) states;

Constitution: The fundamental and organic law of a nation or state that establishes the institutions and apparatus of government, defines the scope of governmental sovereign powers, and guarantees individual civil rights and civil liberties.

It goes on to describe;

Rigid Constitution: A constitution whose terms cannot be altered by ordinary forms of legislation, only by special amending procedures. The U.S. Constitution is an example...

And further;

Flexible Constitution: A constitution that has few or no special amending procedures. The British Constitution is an example...

Even so (and far closer to what you are referring to in your posting and therefore a demonstration of how wide of the mark you are);

Unwritten Constitution: The customs and values, some of which are expressed in statutes, that provide the organic and fundamental law of a state or country that does not have a single written document functioning as a constitution... Many aspects of an unwritten constitution are based on custom or precedent. The U.S. Constitution does not, for example, give the Supreme Court the power to declare laws unconstitutional, but the court does so without question. Nor does the Constitution expressly guarantee a right of privacy, but the Supreme Court has declared that the right exists and is protected.

So this...

"A constitution is about basic values and principles.
Do basic values and principles change?

... is just disconnected fluff.

What a polite way of putting it.

Another amusing lie from AT.

As for the definitions... as they get further from a written definition of rights, authorities and basic values, the purpose becomes more and more meaningless.

What good is a 'Constitution' that changes at the whim of Parliament?

Your dictionary definitions just provide latitude for excuses for those who want them.

Constitution:

    fundamental law: law determining the fundamental political principles of a government

Desparate need ? HAHAHAHA.

Which brings one to another definition of constitution , which is the medical/physical condition /make up of a person. i.e. having the constition of a horse.

The only desparate need I've ever needed was going to toilet or just letting off an almight fart.
