| Channel 4 News has discovered through a freedom of information application that the old Sizewell A nuclear power station came very close to a serious nuclear disaster. It was pure luck that a contractor noticed water coming from the radioactive cooling pond that posed “significant risk to operators and the public”. The Nuclear Installations Inspectorate’s report states that only good action from this contractor avoided a “significant event from becoming a very serious offsite event”. The accident occurred in January 2007, just as the government was trying to soften up the public for the building of new reactors. Tonight we’ll be asking whether this discouraged a regime of openness. We’ll be asking the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate how they can police this industry when in this instance one of the reasons they didn’t prosecute was because their resources were stretched. ================================================================== Tony Blair - War Criminal http://www.petitiononline.com/BWCF/petition.html | | | | Anglo Thug | | Posted: Fri Jun 12, 2009 12:19 am Post subject: |
