| Advance Notice: WWE Will Shutdown in August, 2009
This is an advance warning of site closure. All those who have articles posted here to which they regularly link from external sources should start making arrangements to move information to another online location.
There are several reasons why the site will close, all of which I'll detail in the coming weeks. The primary reason is the lack of time I have available to meet the mounting technical and legal challenges that naturally arise these days as a result of trying to provide an environment for free speech.
No further registrations will be accepted but existing members may continue to use the site up until closure. However, site features beyond general message posting (such as the news service) may or may not be maintained until the closure date.
Because a good deal of the material posted here is controversial (or downright hateful in the case of some of our less desirable members) I do not intend to keep the site online in an archive format. Doing so would result in the same sort of issues that I don't have time to attend to right now. I may consider archiving the material offline and making it available to certain members.
This may come as a surprise to some of you, some may be disappointed, others delighted. To the genuine members who have supported the site with their thoughtful and informative contributions over the past few years, thank you. I hope you find other venues where you can continue to speak on all the issues we've discussed here.

| UPDATE: There is a potential continuity plan taking shape. I won't be involved, but it could be WWE continues under new (and like-minded) ownership. I can't say any more as discussions are at a very early stage but I'm optimistic.

| UPDATE: In preparation for the August shutdown/ transfer I am closing out various contracts, agreements and accounts with hosting and support companies. I'm also trying to determine the value of the domain and the exposure of some of the long-standing support pages that most of you have probably not come across but have been out there all along. Some of these pages will be 'borrowed' for other purposes in the coming weeks, mainly to service other ventures or extend a few favours. None of the main site pages will be affected (at least not for members) but if you encounter any of these subsidiary pages and they appear to be unrelated to the site, don't worry it's by design. I can't bring you fully up to date on the final plan, arrangements yet as circumstances are changing all the time. I have made a few commitments to various people to keep some of the WWE content online to avoid a whole bunch of dead links on quite a few sites and I'll be dealing with that first. Registration has been disabled for a while now but if you are desperate for an account email me at the address below and I'll set one up manually - maybe.

| The Final Plan (Possibly)
The WWE web site will close on August 31st, 2009.
The forums will be archived and select forums will be reformatted and retained on the domain itszone.co.uk in a read only state. This is to support the efforts of people who have generated many external links (many more than I realised) pointing to the domain.
The hosting and other costs associated with this public archive will be met, in part but hopefully in entirety, by advertising or other revenue generators. I will make every attempt to keep the archives available but if funding becomes an issue that can't be met by conventional means I'll have to make arrangements directly with those who benefit from the archive and let them decide how things will proceed. Because of the nature of the material hosted on this site I do not have the option of finding a cheap host. Most hosts won't host this site or collapse easily in the face of protest from those who prefer to make their point by ensuring others can't speak. So hosting this archive will be relatively expensive. I'll do what I can but won't make any guarantees.
Some people have already expressed their dissatisfaction at the prospect of advertising on the site/ archive. If those people would please contact me by PM I will advise on ways to send money on a regular basis to cover the costs of the archive.
The entire WWE archive will be available on DVD, free of charge for any interested established member. Just send a PM with your name and address requesting the archive and I'll send it after the site closes. Sorry, no downloads as the archive is big, very big.
At some point in the future I will be setting up a blog that draws on my experiences here on WWE. I will be inviting certain members to be contributors to the blog. I will send further information along with each invitation.
I will now open up this thread for sensible comments and suggestions. That's 'sensible' comments and suggestions please.

| I'll especially miss Alpha's posts; I've read everything of Dr. Sniegoski's that I can get my hands on, and click in to Mondoweiss regularly. So thanks for that, AngloThug and Alpha.
Department of Silver Linings: Won't ever have to encounter the disgusting Ilana Halevy evah again. I stayed away from WWE because she/it was so ignorantly offensive. otoh, I did enjoy that brief repartee we had when we shared recipes from the Black Sea region.

| Hi HL, that's very generous of you and much appreciated but I think I've managed to balance this out for the time being so I can cover off the costs. Besides, I think the first call should be made on those that rely on these archives to be maintained.

| First Stages of The Shutdown Procedure. Sorry I have to rush this along because the present host is having major problems. So today:
1. The following forums will go into read-only: UK, Americas, Mid East, Africa, Globalisation, Debate, Articles.
2. All of the blogs will go to read-only mode and the inactive ones will be switched off.
3. The Playpen will stay online and will act as a temporary solution for those wishing to stay in touch or finish off discussions.
4. All support forums will be taken offline.
5. The news feeds will cease.
6 Non essential services, such as searches, memberlists, profile management, will be deactivated and taken offline.
7. Registration scripts will be taken offline.
Alternative solutions will be provided in the near(ish) future.

| UPDATE: All forums bar the members' only areas are now locked down whilst data archives are built. This process will probably take 2-3 days. After that the forums may open up again but only for a short time whilst they are individually being converted. Anything posted in a re-opened forum will not be included in the final archive.
