| Hi All, Thanks for your support for us at Fairford. I have come to the conclusion that the American powers that be are almost solely responsible for the various actions that are being taken against us at the ' Peace Camp'. I use the title for our efforts loosely now as the treatment we have received is driving people to less and less peaceful protest. My personal observations are that the UK civilian police are not entirely comfortable with the way we have been treated and even large numbers of MOD Police from within the base have tried to handle the situation with sympathy and understanding......several of them have even brought us food and passed it through the wire at risk to themselves. I was charged with criminal damage to the front gate of the base yesterday to the value of £8,300.00 and even though the MOD who questioned and charged me had come all the way from Catterick and Portsmouth to carry out the task, at no time did they give me the impression that they are in any way hostile to our cause. I understand that the American base commander is pushing hard to have such actions brought against us. I find it very sad that in our own country where the police feel driven to join protest marches when not in uniform, they then have to carry out actions against their fellow countrymen and women which they seem largely unhappy to do. The terms of my bail ( which will be appealed next week) dictate that I shouldn't enter USAF Fairford and that I must avoid the roads surrounding and adjacent to the perimeter fence...... Unfortunately for the Base Commander the way the map of my bail restrictions has been drawn I will still be able to have access to our ' base camp' and from there I will be able to support all those coming this weekend for the purpose of direct action and peaceful protest. I was told by a MOD from inside the wire a couple of days ago he regarded his role as that of defence of protesters climbing or cutting into the base from the gungho Yanks inside who he thought wouldn't hesitate to shoot anyone in their line of fire. I am posting this info as I am confident that the warning was one hundred per cent genuine and without purpose other than human concern. This morning I have heard that protesters at Kineton have been active and around 12 of them have been arrested......I doubt their fate will grab media attention as all the arrests at Brize Norton have been largely glossed over. Are people really going to allow the Yanks and Blair to intimidate them into accepting their war and ceasing actions against this tyranny we now have in UK ? I can only say in my name and my friends and associates in this struggle......never, never, never. And no bail conditions are going to stop any of us from making sure they know it. Regards, Kate ( an employed, responsible, non radical housewife and mother).......how many of us can you lock up Mr.Blair ? | | | | funglefoot | | Posted: Fri Mar 07, 2003 9:49 pm Post subject: |
| Hi Kate - keep fighting. I will be there myself tomorrow evening. I have taken the advice of Thug and I wrote to the Canadian PM Jean Chretien. This is his reply written by his Executive Correspondence Officer: Dear Alan ***: On behalf of the Right Honourable Jean Chrétien, I would like to acknowledge receipt of your e-mail regarding Iraq. The time you have taken to write is appreciated and you may be assured that your comments have been carefully noted. Canadian policy towards Iraq continues to be motivated by our concerns about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction and the humanitarian situation of the Iraqi people. These concerns are shared very broadly within the international community and there is strong support for insisting that Iraq meet its disarmament obligations. To this end, we support Security Council Resolution 1441, which spells out exactly what is required of Iraq and authorizes the current redeployment to Iraq of UN weapons inspectors to verify its compliance. At the same time, Canada has consistently said that we would be prepared to do our part if the international community decides that the use of force against Iraq is necessary. Once again, thank you for writing to the Prime Minister. As your remarks will also be of interest to the Honourable Bill Graham, Minister of Foreign Affairs, I have taken the liberty of forwarding your e-mail to him, for his information. L.A. A terrible crime of mass murder is in preparation. As civilised people we cannot allow this to go unchecked. The disarming of Saddam can be accomplished by other means. The control of the oil fields can only be accomplished by invasion and this is the real target Bush is aiming for. | Well I have to confess to be delighted at such a quick reply though I was dissappointed at the views it expressed. Neither WMD nor humanitarian reasons seem valid to me. Seems ridiculous to kill a further half million in collateral damage - the WHO's estimate - in order to save the lives of half a million over the next 5 or 10 years. And WMD are the brief of the Weapons Inspectors who seem to be growing increasingly confident. But it was very nice to have such a swift and courteous reply from the office of the Canadian PM. | | | | funglefoot | | Posted: Fri Mar 07, 2003 10:04 pm Post subject: |
| | I also sent the same email to about 12 Canadian MP's and about 6 Australian MP's. The only response so far has been from Jean Chretien. | | | | funglefoot | | Posted: Fri Mar 07, 2003 11:46 pm Post subject: Sorry Kate |
| Sorry Kate did not mean to hijack the thread...... I am not usually so discourteous. Will commence a new thread when/if further replies come in. Alan. | | | | Saint | | Posted: Sat Mar 08, 2003 1:20 am Post subject: |
| Hello All Just wanted to pass on good wishes to all those on the front lines as it were, Kate, Alan etc - wish I could join you - stay strong. I'm doing my bit, little as it may be - in the background with the dark glasses on - but that will change if the situation doesn't for the better. All that is necessary for the forces of evil to take root in the world is for enough good men and women to do nothing. You all take care. | Hi Kate - keep fighting. I will be there myself tomorrow evening. Fungalfoot........if you really want to throw USAF Fairford into turmoil wear a pulled down hat and be seen carrying a small piece of rolled up carpet ( handy for getting over the layers of razor wire). When you ( or anybody else) are stopped tell 'em you were planning to kneel at the wire and pray for the innocent lives they are about to take. Also......if you want to see the place in a real frenzy come and find me, borrow my car and do a slow crawl along the fence ( 13 miles long, gates 10 to 13 most interesting). That should see a mass arrival of riot and other police. When I say a mass I mean around 300 if you are alone. My point is not that I am anything special, just that these brave Americans function well when they are several miles up, on drugs and dropping ' Weapons of Mass Destruction' on innocent people. Face to face with middle aged housewives they have to bring out hundreds of police, guns and loose dogs. In stating any of the above I am exercising my basic 'Human Right to Peaceful Protest' and discussion, much as the Yanks and Blair would like to be able to they haven't managed to remove those rights just yet. | Tony Blair's Britain in 2003. A section 44 ( anti-terrorism act) is in place around USAF Fairford. People are being arrested at all hours of the day and night for absolutely no reason whatsoever, dragged away to police stations miles away......held for an hour or two, and then released without charge into a town miles from their homes without money or transport at times such as four o'clock in the morning. The roads around the Gate 10 end of the base have been closed by the police under this act. Myself and friends have been on the road round the clock trying to rescue people stranded miles away without money to even make a phone call. Yesterday I was trying to get permission to get transport to Adele who was a visitor to Gate 10 when the section was put in place. Adele uses crutches and is unable to walk more than a few yards. I was refused permission to send any type of transport to help. She was eventually ' rescued' by the fact that she poured boiling water from the camp kettle over her hand and was taken to Fairford Hospital by police. Someone was then able to collect her from the hospital and get her home. American servicemen armed with combat knives came out of USAF Fairford through Crash Gate 10 and started slashing banners that had been taken to the Gate 10 protest site, some of them brought by children to ask for peace. These Americans took over part of the highway which they claim belongs to them ( a claim being disputed by the local council), smashed their way through the anti-war protesters site and put up metal barrier fencing and their trademark razor wire. The base has denied American servicemen were involved in the criminal damage done to ' us' but this denial is a blatant lie. They Yanks are now coming out of their base onto our soil and using physical violence against us perfectly peaceful protesters. The British police had had no warning that the Yanks were going to do this and just stood by and watched them do it. It seems that the murdering American scum who hide behind razor wire waiting to kill feel that they are well and truly above the law and intend to try to intimidate people into giving up protest at their president's war. As one American said while he was slashing a child's protest banner he was doing it because ' it is maaaaaaah feeeyance..........'. Wrong.....it is a British fence and some of us Brits aren't going put up with American state sponsered terrorism against us without a fight. | herblooser@yahoo.co.uk Rinky-Dink and Lardy-Dar Cycle Powered Sound Systems confirmed for The Party At The End Of The Runway Saturday 22nd March, 12 noon - onwards starring The Collateral Damage Orchestra The Friendly Fire Quartet plus special guests tbc. Hangar Stadium, Fairford. Free - all welcome. plus... Evening party at the Axe & Compass, Kempsford 8pm - late. Bands & DJs tba Free camping in the pub garden/peace camp. www.rinky-dink.org/ Hi Simon etc......thanks for that. Looking forward to it. Word of warning though.....the MOD/Yanks may well close ALL the roads around the base again. It is possible to get to the pub via the back roads if this is the case. From the Swindon end head for Lechlade and take a left at Highworth. From Highworth you can wriggle cross country to Kempsford. Decision will have to be made about whether you will try to get straight to Kempsford or take a chance on getting stranded in Fairford with the demo. For anybody attending it is possible to get from Fairford to Kempsford via Lechlade and Highworth but this about 15 miles round and hard work for anyone on a bike. I am certainly expecting the road past the main front gate to be closed for the march/demo on 22nd March. Kt. | | | | Caspian | | Posted: Thu Mar 13, 2003 9:47 pm Post subject: |
