Peace Camp Established
 A peace camp was established 06:00 today at USAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, the home of the B-2 Stealth Bomber. They will hopefully be there for the next 28 days pending legal process for their eviction by the landowner. During this time they will protest against the War. Protest Action was initiated at Fairford months ago by the Gloucestershire Weapons Inspectors. www.gwi.org.uk They were at the March in London with their Stealth Bomber.
The GWI are arranging a march on Sunday 23rd February. Assemble 12 noon at Fairford Town Centre. They will be holding a "Weapons Inspection" at the Main Gate of the Base at 12:30 This is organized by CND Bristol.
Could you give this all the publicity you can please.

| I understand that the Guardian Newspaper paid particular attention to the newly established Peace Camp at Fairford - the base in Gloucestershire from which the American B-2 Stealth Bomber will quite likely fly.

| The Peace Camp has been going from strength to strengh. One minor hitch though was the slashing of tyres. This seemed to be NUF initiated but since a complaint was made to the NUF the landowner has become very pleasant and amicable. There have been a lot of visits from the media and articles in the local press and TV and radio. As yet I have not seen anything in the Guardian - maybe on the weekend. Local people have been very supportive and have supplied firewood and water. The real test of resilience will come when the weather turns wet and windy ):

After this demand has been made and 'accepted' by the authorities in command of the Base you are invited to exercise your right to walk around the Base and to hang whatever items that express your comments on the fence.

Hi Fungalfoot,
As you know the USAF refused to allow us in to inspect their weapons of mass destruction so we were forced to effect an univited entry.
I am sure the US authorities will respect the fact that we had to break down the main gate of the base to get in as they practice and approve of violence and intimidation across the planet themselves on a daily basis.
I have seen this morning that the base is still increasing miles of razor wire around the perimeter but somehow I don't think this will keep us out.
Much of the perimeter fence that was torn down by enthusiastic protesters on Sunday is still in the process of being replaced this morning.
No sign of B2 activity up to this morning but given the ammount of effort these killers are putting into increased security we assume they are still intending to launch their mission of murder from British soil.
Any news updates to my mobile would be appreciated...........I assume Tony Blair won't be able to silence every objector to his personal campaign of death with threats and violence.
We have been donated a solar panel by the Stroud Green Shop so we can now charge mobile phones. A film show is being put on at the camp this weekend and the following weekend a music gig is being staged by a wonderful group of people from Bath in the friendly and helpful local pub, The Axe and Compass, in Kempsford.

| Please note that due to legal action the Peace Camp has moved to behind the local pub, the Axe and Compass, in Kempsford. This is only a distance of approx. 250m from the old site in a South Westerly direction. If you walk 75m southwards down the footpath besides the farmer's field where the camp was originally sited, you will come to a road. Turn right and you will see the Axe and Compass about 100m up the road. The camp is situated behind the pub. All the arrangements regarding gigs and entertainment etc. are still in place.

| US bombers arrive in Britain

The first of 14 US B–52 bombesr to be based in Britain touched down today at an RAF base in Gloucestershire.
The first two long–range bombers, expected to be involved in any conflict with Iraq, are the first of around nine believed to be arriving at RAF Fairford, although the Ministry of Defence has not yet given official confirmation that the aircraft will be stationed there.
The B–52s touched down this morning at the base on the Gloucestershire and Wiltshire border which is a NATO–designated standby base and is shared with the United States Air Force.
It is one of only three forward USAF bases outside the USA and was involved in the Kosovo conflict, when bombers flying from Fairford dropping nearly 50 per cent of all bombs on the country during the war.
Fairford is now capable of housing the B–2 Stealth bombers since undergoing a £100 million refurbishment in 2002, the largest single NATO expenditure since the end of the Cold War.
The B–2 capability has doubled the strike force at the base, which also includes the older B–1 and B–52 bombers.
The role of the USAF at the base has always been sensitive and Fairford has recently become the focus of peace protesters concerned about war with Iraq.
The departure of a wave of B–52 bombers from RAF Fairford four years ago heralded the start of the Nato assault on Yugoslavia which ultimately led to Serbian forces being ejected from Kosovo.
American B–52 bombers also flew 60 missions during the first Gulf conflict in 1991 from their Cotswold base, dropping more than 1,158 tonnes of high explosive in sorties against Saddam Hussein's Republican Guard and other key targets in Iraq and Kuwait.
The aircraft can carry a variety of bombs and other weapons, including Tomahawk cruise missiles.

| Things have been hotting up while the rain has been teeming down. The protest has moved to Gate 10 adjacent to where the B-52's are parked. A hard core of ex CND campaigners and others have been struggling to maintain a 24/7 watch over the bombers which are now being loaded with missiles ready for Iraq. The Wiltshire Police have relieved their colleagues of the Gloucestershire Constabulary and have been making life as difficult as possible for the protestors. I don't have accurate figures but I reckon that 90% of them are women. I asked Kate on the 3rd March if martial law had been declared..... This was her reply:
"It has in Fairford. I have been manhandled and searched all night. I am soaking wet, freezing cold and starving. They have tried everything but actually shooting us to get rid of us. Actually I can't stop shaking now from the physical effort of being exposed to minus 3 for 20 hours the day before yesterday and rain and wind all night last night. They won't let us have ANY form of shelter as it could be used to hide weapons.
They have invoked a section 60 and are guarding the roads around us on the basis that we may have intent to violence or intent to breach a whole variety of public order acts.
Apart from the press yesterday I had the riot squad and various other police depts shoving cameras and camcorders in my face. I think the police must have more close shot video footage of me than anyone else in the country this morning. I am now used to a mini bus full of police following me with search lights every time I even try to go and take a pee......"
Their have been several arrests. Kate was arrested at Worcester today and appears again on Thursday at Cirencester. She is out on bail at the moment. Lindis, Juliet, and Nuala have also all been arrested. The police are using trumped up charges to eliminate leaders.
We desperately need to keep this watch going 24/7 to show not only the press but the rest of the country what is going down IN THEIR NAME. These are preperations for the biggest mass murder this century. The horror of 911 pales besides the prospect of what these bombers can and most likely will do to the innocent women and children of Iraq.
Yes the President of the United States wages war on women and children - even innocent ones. Maybe all we can do is stand and bear silent witness to these bombers and their payloads of death and terror, but the bigger the watch we can assemble the better. Please come and assist us to show the world that Bush and Blair cannot prepare for this crime without being seen for what they really are.
If you would like to go to Fairford for the day or preferably several days there is accomodation at the Peace Camp. Bring yourself and a sleeping bag, plenty of warm clothes and waterproofs, maybe a pair of bins or a camera - this is history unfolding. Be prepared for a hostile welcome from the police. It's hard to believe that this is Great Britain, a supposedly 'democratic' country, isn't it. People are allowed to protest without too much trouble until America brings her death machines into our country and then all hell is let lose. These bombers will kill women, children and innocent people and no amount of denials and talk of 'collateral damage' is going to change this fact.
I listened to George Bush today and heard yet again, the excuses and rhetoric he uses to put his case for war. None of it was convincing at all, all of it was total BS, full of lies, disinformation and twisting of facts - nothing new there then. It is now pretty obvious to all of us that he is a warmongering lunatic, hell-bent on a war that nobody wants and nobody needs, least of all the Iraqi people. Thank God there are people like Kate and her friends who are prepared to put up with a great deal of harrassment and discomfort to let the Americans know that their death machines are not wanted in our country.
This war is totally unjustified, totally immoral and if it goes ahead, it will be one of the biggest war crimes committed this century - it will definately be on a par with 09/11. If Bush goes ahead with his war, he will be no better than those who carried out the attacks on 09/11. In fact, he will be worse because of his continued holier than though rhetoric that he continues to spout and the pathetic excuses he makes in murdering innocent people.
