In reply, I have taken the trouble to chase up the best information on it, and put it all in one place - here - with URLs for the important items. The key item is #3, by Michael Rivero, of What Really Happened. Footnotes in that article are links, which don't appear in your word processor. I have chased up & inserted the main ones, and included the text of three important ones, footnotes 20, 21 & 24. On the Internet, item #1 loads in your browser, then is over-written by a message The Page Cannot Be Found. But there's a trick way to beat such censorship and get the text - see item #1. You can find images in the same way. This material is worth forwarding, saving and printing. Plymouth Police encountered the men after an officer responded to Pizzeria Uno on the 1000 block of West Ridge Pike at 2:40 p.m. Thursday for a report of illegal dumping, according to reports. A manager there advised the police officer that a tractor-trailer was observed backed up to the dumpster at the rear of the restaurant. The manager noticed a freshly dumped pile of furniture adjacent to the dumpster, according to police. The manager confronted the vehicle's operator, a Middle Eastern man, police said. The man, who later identified himself as Moshe Elmakias, 30, denied that he did anything and fled the scene, heading west on West Ridge Pike, according to police. The manager was able to provide township police with the Florida registration number of the tractor-trailer and said that a sign posted on the side of the vehicle read "Moving Systems Incorporated" and included a phone number, police said. {This page contains the above two paragraphs, then copies the following article, called URBAN MOVING SYSTEMS AND DETAINED ISRAELIS, from What Really Happened} (2) URBAN MOVING SYSTEMS AND DETAINED ISRAELIS, by Scott DaVault What Really Happened http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/sears.html Could the key to understanding the World Trade Center tragedy be found in detained in our country? This reporter believes that it is, and that the vast majority of Americans are not being told the truth. A story in Philadelphia's The Mercury may hold the answer. "2 found with video of Sears Tower Michelle Mowad, Special to The Mercury October 17, 2001 PLYMOUTH -- Two men whom police described as Middle Eastern were detained in the township by federal imigration authorities after being found with detailed footage of the Sears Tower in Chicago. The area was searched by township police, and the vehicle was spotted parked on the curb in front of John Kennedy ford on Ridge Pike, Just west of Industrial Way. An officer proceeded to make contatct with the occupants of the truck by knocking on the cab, according to reports. A Middle Eastern man, later identified as Ron Katar, 23, exited the sleeper area of the cab and said that the operator was across the street as he pointed toward the Don Rosen porsche dealer, reports said. Elmakias and a white female, Ayelet Reisler, 23, were approaching the vehicle from the dealership, but the female then began walking in a different direction, acting as if she were not with Elmakias, according to reports. Reisler was detained and checked for identification. She had a german passport in her name and medication in a different name, police said. Plymouth Police Sgt. Thomas Longo was notified and responded to the incident. Elmakias allegedly admitted to being behind Pizzeria Uno, although he said that he did not dump furniture, he was only turning around. Elmakias said that his destination was New York and that he was also coming from New York. He said he was in Plymouth because he was supposed to make a pickup from a male in the morning and pointed toward the Storage USA facility on Belvoir Road and West Ridge Pike, police said. Elmakias could not, however, provide a name or telephone number of the customer. Township police dispatched a request for a Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program Inspector. Officer Gerald Schwartz of the Whitpain Police Department responded. Schwartz discovered through his investigation that the operator's log had been falsified and put the truck out of service due to violations, police said. In addition, the vehicle reportedly had numerous equipment violations that rendered the truck unsafe. Inspection of the tractor-trailer's contents revealed a load three-quarters full containing household items, including furniture and boxes. Among the items in the truck was a Sony video camera. Plymouth Police Officer David McCann reviewed the tape found inside the camera. The tape had video footage of Chicago with zoomed-in shots of the Sears Tower, according to police. The Federal Bureau of Investigation was notified of the incident and all three subjects were transported to the Plymouth Police station. The subjects were then processed through the National Crime Information center and placed into detention, according to the report. FBI Agents James Sweeney and Richard Tofani arrived at the station and proceeded to investigate both the subjects and their belongings with the assistance of Immigration and Naturalization Services. Elmakias and Katar were eventually detained by INS and transported to a federal facility, said police. Reisler was released. All evidence collected by Plymouth and Whitpain officers was transferred to federal facilities with the exeption of a VCR. Special Agent Linda Vizi, as spokeswoman for the Philadelphia and FBI, could not be contacted for comment on further investigations." The question of the nationality of the detained Middle Eastern men can be found in other newspapers. On Saturday, September 15th, The Record of New Jersey ran an article by Adam Lisberg. An excerpt follows: "Closer to New York, FBI agents and Bergen County Sheriff's Department crime scene technicians spent three hours Thursday night searching the Weehawken headquarters of Urban Moving Systems at 3W 18th St. Investigators first became interested in the business after witnesses reported Tuesday that three men seemed to celebrate the World Trade Center explosions in Liberty State Park, then drove away in a company van. 'To the best of my knowledge, my client Urban Moving Systems and Dominik Suter are not targets,' said attorney Jay Hamill of Jersey City. 'This is an informational situation. We're cooperating completely and have objected to nothing they've requested.' Agents took pictures inside the company's office Thursday night and seized 13 computer hard drives. They also showed a keen interest in the roof, which had a very clear view of the World Trade Center until Tuesday. A half-dozen agents searched the roof with flashlights and appeared particularly interested in the sight lines from the roof towared downtown Manhattan. East Rutherford police stopped an Urban Moving Systems van on Route 3 Tuesday and detained five men inside, at least some of them company employees. The occupants said they were all Israelis. They were being detained because they are in violation of immigration regulations, and all have expressed a desire to leave the country on their own, according to an Immigration and Naturalization Service spokesman. An employee of Urban Moving Systems, who would not give his name, said the majority of his co-workers are Israelis and were joking on the day of the attacks. 'I was in tears,' the man said. 'These guys were joking and that bothered me. These guys were like, "Now America knows what we go through."'" The identities and nationalities of the employees were confirmed by the Jerusalem Post. What authorities have not elaborated on is the connection between the confiscated Sears Tower video that was found in Pennsylvania and the antics of Urban Moving System's employees. Additionally, the INS has recently signed papers that will allow the detained Israeli's to be deported without having to stand trial for possible involvement in the events of September 11th. Was the fourth plane headed toward the Sears Tower before it made an abrupt turn over Ohio? This reporter is prepared to accept the possibility. His quick reply was: "It's very good…….Well, it's not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy (for Israel)" As the world watched in disbelief and asked the question... ...Mossad operatives were seen dancing with joy. A Mossad surveillance team made quite a public spectacle of themselves on 9-11. Police received several calls from angry New Jersey residents claiming "middle-eastern" men with a white van were videotaping the disaster with shouts of joy and mockery. (1) "They were like happy, you know … They didn't look shocked to me" said a witness. (2) http://abcnews.go.com/sections/2020/DailyNews/2020_whitevan_020621.html [T]hey were seen by New Jersey residents on Sept. 11 making fun of the World Trade Center ruins and going to extreme lengths to photograph themselves in front of the wreckage. (3) http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/arrested_israelis.html Witnesses saw them jumping for joy in Liberty State Park after the initial impact (4). Later on, other witnesses saw them celebrating on a roof in Weehawken, and still more witnesses later saw them celebrating with high fives in a Jersey City parking lot. (5) "It looked like they're hooked in with this. It looked like they knew what was going to happen when they were at Liberty State Park." (6) One anonymous phone call to the authorities actually led them to close down all of New York's bridges and tunnels. The mystery caller told the 9-1-1 dispatcher that a group of Palestinians were mixing a bomb inside of a white van headed for the Holland Tunnel. Here's the transcript from NBC News: Dispatcher: Jersey City police. Caller: Yes, we have a white van, 2 or 3 guys in there, they look like Palestinians and going around a building. Caller: There's a minivan heading toward the Holland tunnel, I see the guy by Newark Airport mixing some junk and he has those sheikh uniform. Dispatcher: He has what? Caller: He's dressed like an Arab. (7) http://www.wnbc.com/news/1315651/detail.html (*Writer's note: Why would this mystery caller specifically say that these "Arabs" were Palestinians? How would he know that? Palestinians usually dress in western style clothes, not "sheikh uniforms") Based on that phone call, police then issued a "Be-on-the-Lookout" alert for a white mini-van heading for the city's bridges and tunnels from New Jersey. When a van fitting that exact description was stopped just before crossing into New York, the suspicious "middle-easterners" were apprehended. Imagine the surprise of the police officers when these terror suspects turned out to be Israelis! According to ABC's 20/20, when the van belonging to the cheering Israelis was stopped by the police, the driver of the van, Sivan Kurzberg, told the officers: "We are Israelis. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are your problem." (8) The police and FBI field agents really became suspicious when they found maps of the city with certain places highlighted, box cutters (the same items that the hijackers supposedly used), $4700 cash stuffed in a sock, and foreign passports. Police also told the Bergen Record that bomb sniffing dogs were brought to the van and that they reacted as if they had smelled explosives. (9) The FBI seized and developed their photos, one of which shows Sivan Kurzberg flicking a cigarette lighter in front of the smouldering ruins in an apparently celebratory gesture. (10) The Jerusalem Post later reported that a white van with a bomb was stopped as it approached the George Washington Bridge. Of Course, the Post did not reveal the true ethnicity of the suspects. Here's what the Jerusalem Post reported on September 12, 2001: "American security services overnight stopped a car bomb on the George Washington Bridge" [...] "The van, packed with explosives, was stopped on an approach ramp to the bridge. Authorities suspect the terrorists intended to blow up the main crossing between New Jersey and New York, Army Radio reported." (11) http://www.virtualjerusalem.com/news/lateststories/?disp_feature=pHaGfq.var TCM Breaking News reported that the van was laden down with tonnes of explosives (12). http://archives.tcm.ie/breakingnews/2001/09/12/story23429.asp (*Writer's note: Is it pure coincidence that 'al Qaeda' use huge truck bombs as a hallmark of their terror campaign?) What's really intriguing is that ABC's 20/20 (13), the New York Post (14), and the New Jersey Bergen Record (15) all clearly and unambiguously reported that a white van with Israelis was intercepted on a ramp near Route 3, which leads directly to the Lincoln Tunnel. But the Jerusalem Post, Israeli National News (Arutz Sheva) (16), and Yediot America, (17) all reported, just as clearly and unambiguously, that a white van with Israelis was stopped on a ramp leading to the George Washington Bridge, which is several miles north of the Lincoln Tunnel. It appears as if there may actually have been two white vans involved, one stopped on each crossing. This would not only explain the conflicting reports as to the actual location of the arrests, but would also explain how so many credible eye-witnesses all saw celebrating "middle-easterners" in a white van in so many different locations. It also explains why the New York Post and Steve Gordon (lawyer for the 5 Israelis) originally described how three Israelis were arrested but later increased the total to five. Perhaps one van was meant to drop off a bomb while the other was meant to pick up the first set of drivers while re-crossing back into New Jersey? If a van was to be used as a parked time-bomb on the GW Bridge, then certainly the drivers would need to have a "get-away van" to pick them up and escape. And notice how the van (or vans) stayed away from the third major crossing -the Holland Tunnel- which was where the police had originally been directed to by that anti-Palestinian 9-1-1 "mystery caller". A classic misdirection play. From there, the story gets becomes even more suspicious. The Israelis worked for a Weehawken moving company known as Urban Moving Systems. An American employee of Urban Moving Systems told the The Record of New Jersey that a majority of his co-workers were Israelis and they were all joking about the attacks. {quote} The employee, who declined to give his name said: "I was in tears. These guys were joking and that bothered me." These guys were like, "Now America knows what we go through." (18) {endquote} http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/sears.html A few days after the attacks, Urban Moving System's Israeli owner, Dominick Suter, dropped his business and fled the country for Israel. He was in such a hurry to flee America that some of Urban Moving System's customers were left with their furniture stranded in storage facilities (19). http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/press/storage.htm It was later confirmed that the five detained Israelis were in fact Mossad agents (20). http://www.forward.com/issues/2002/02.03.15/news2.html {footnote 20 is included below} They were held in custody for 71 days before being quietly released. Some of the movers had been kept in solitary confinement for 40 days.(21) http://abcnews.go.com/sections/2020/DailyNews/2020_whitevan_020621.html {footnote 21 is included below} {quote} [S]everal of the detainees discussed their experience in America on an Israeli talk show after their return home. Said one of the men, denying that they were laughing or happy on the morning of Sept. 11, "The fact of the matter is we are coming from a country that experiences terror daily. Our purpose was to document the event." (22) {endquote} http://abcnews.go.com/sections/2020/DailyNews/2020_whitevan_020621.html" {same as footnote 21} How did they know there would be an event to document on 9/11? It doesn't take Sherlock Holmes to connect the dots of the dancing Israeli Mossad agents - here's the most logical scenario: 1. The Israeli "movers" cheered the 9-11 attacks to celebrate the successful accomplishment of the greatest spy operation ever pulled off in history. 2. One of them, or an accomplice, then calls a 9-1-1 police dispatcher to report Palestinian bomb-makers in a white van headed for the Holland Tunnel. 3. Having thus pre-framed the Palestinians with this phone call, the Israeli bombers then head for the George Washington Bridge instead, where they will drop off their time-bomb van and escape with Urban Moving accomplices. 4. But the police react very wisely and proactively by closing off ALL bridges and tunnels instead of just the Holland Tunnel. This move inadvertently foils the Israelis' misdirection play and leads to their own capture and 40 day torture. 5. To cover up this story, the U.S. Justice Department rounds up over 1000 Arabs for minor immigration violations and places them in New York area jails. The Israelis therefore become less conspicuous as the government and media can now claim that the Israelis were just immigration violators caught in the same dragnet as many other Arabs. 6. After several months, FBI and Justice Department "higher-ups" are able to gradually push aside the local FBI agents and free the Israelis quietly. The US government immediately attributed Osama bin Laden to the 9/11 attacks even though he had no previous record of doing anything on this scale. Immediately after the Flight 77 hit WTC 1 CIA Director George Tenet said "You know, this has bin Laden's fingerprints all over it." (23) http://abcnews.go.com/onair/DailyNews/sept11_moments_1.html The compliant mainstream media completely ignored the Israeli connection. Immediately following the 9-11 attacks, the media was filled with stories linking the attacks to bin Laden. TV talking-heads, "experts", and scribblers of every stripe spoon-fed a gullible American public a steady diet of the most outrageous propaganda imaginable. We were told that the reason bin Laden attacked the USA was because he hates our "freedom" and "democracy". The Muslims were "medieval" and they wanted to destroy us because they envied our wealth, were still bitter about the Crusades, and were offended by Britney Spears shaking her tits and ass all over the place! But bin Laden strongly denied any role in the attacks and suggested that Zionists orchestrated the 9-11 attacks. The BBC published bin Laden's statement of denial in which he said: "I was not involved in the September 11 attacks in the United States nor did I have knowledge of the attacks. There exists a government within a government within the United States. The United States should try to trace the perpetrators of these attacks within itself; to the people who want to make the present century a century of conflict between Islam and Christianity. That secret government must be asked as to who carried out the attacks. [...] The American system is totally in control of the Jews, whose first priority is Israel, not the United States." (24) http://www.public-action.com/911/oblintrv.html {footnote 24 is included below} You never heard that quote on your nightly newscast did you? To date, the only shred of "evidence" to be uncovered against Bin Laden was a barely audible fuzzy amateur video that the Pentagon just happened to find "lying around" in Afghanistan. How very convenient (and how very fake!). http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/osamatape.html White House reneges on proof of bin Laden's guilt http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/sep2001/bush-s29.shtml" {quote} The administration's lame attempt to justify its about-face indicates three things: first, it has no serious evidence linking bin Laden directly to the September 11 atrocities; second, it is in considerable internal disarray; and third, it feels it can lie without limit and get away with it because it has the services of a thoroughly reactionary and controlled media. {endquote} There is no evidence, be it hard or circumstantial, to link the Al Qaeda "terrorist network" to these acts of terror, but there is a mountain of evidence, both hard and circumstantial, which suggests that the Zionist Mafia has been very busy framing Arabs for terror plots against America. One last thing. At 09:40 on 9/11 Abu Dhabi television reported that the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine claimed responsiblity for the attacks (25). http://www.rte.ie/news/features/oneyearon/timeline.html This claim was immediately denied by the DFLP leader Qais abu Leila who said it had always opposed "terror attacks on civilian targets, especially outside the occupied territories." (26) http://edition.cnn.com/2001/WORLD/europe/09/11/trade.centre.reaction/ Why would a Palestinian organisation comprising of less than 500 people (27) make the suicidal move of immediately claiming responsibility for the attacks? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Front_for_the_Liberation_of_Palestine One thing is for sure - if the the Israelis had successfully framed the Palestinians for the 9/11 attacks then Ariel Sharon and his government would have had the perfect excuse to expel the Palestinian population from the West Bank and Gaza Strip because the citizens there would have been labelled as terrorists. {quote} Sharon and the other Israeli leaders aspire to fulfill what the goals of the political Zionist movement have been since its origin a century ago: to turn all of historic Palestine into an exclusively Jewish state. A central tenet of the Zionist ideology is expressed in the racist slogan, "A land without people for a people without a land." Valentine Curator, Waco Holocaust Electronic Museum http://www.Public-Action.com Copyright, October, 2001 May be reproduced for non-commercial purposes. October 16, 2001-- An interview with Osama bin Laden was published in a Karachi-based Pakistani daily newspaper, Ummat, on September 28, 2001. In this interview, bin Laden says of the September 11 attacks in the US: "I have already said that I am not involved in the 11 September attacks in the United States. As a Muslim, I try my best to avoid telling a lie. I had no knowledge of these attacks, nor do I consider the killing of innocent women, children and other humans as an appreciable act. Islam strictly forbids causing harm to innocent women, children and other people. Such a practice is forbidden even in the course of a battle. "It is the United States, which is perpetrating every maltreatment on women, children and common people . . . " Everyone familiar with the content of the Waco Holocaust Electronic Museum http://www.Public-action.com/SkyWriter/WacoMuseum knows bin Laden is telling the truth. News of this Ummat interview was suppressed in the US. Between the time of its publication and October 7, the US apparently spent its time creating a fake "bin Laden" interview, using either a stand-in or morphing. Or was the fraud produced by the Brits, as a favor to the US? No, the Taliban Home Video was a ham-fisted effort. The Brits usually have more subtlety. You can read about the US fraud, "The Taliban Home Video," at http://www.Public-Action.com/911/hvideo.html Attached to "The Taliban Home Video" you will find a copy of a March, 1977 CNN interview with bin Laden, conducted by Peter Arnett. Compare the content and the style of bin Laden's remarks in the 1977 CNN interview with the content and style of bin Laden's remarks in the September 28, 2001 Ummat interview. Yes, it is the same man, all right. It appears to me that the Ummat interview is authentic. Here is a copy of the Ummat interview, which you can find at this URL: http://www.khilafah.com/1421/category.php?DocumentID=2392&TagID=2 I am grateful to InfoTimes <infotimes@rcn.com> for passing this information along to me. === Usama bin Laden Says Israeli Regime is Behind the 9-11 Attacks KABUL, Afghanistan (Ummat): Prominent Arab mojahed (freedom fighter) Usama bin Laden or the Al-Qaida group has nothing to do with the 11 September attacks on the Bush Administration, according to an Usama bin Laden interview with Ummat, the Karachi-based Pakistani daily newspaper. In his interview, Usama bin Laden pointed out that the Israeli regime is behind the 9-11 attacks. He expressed gratitude and support for Pakistan, urging the Pakistani people to continue their jehad against dictators, tyrants, traitors, crooks, criminals, dictatorships and tyrannies. Following is the text of Usama Bin Laden's interview conducted by a "special correspondent" and published in the daily Ummat on Friday, 28 September 2001. [The place and date of the interview was not given by Ummat.] Daily UMMAT: You have been accused of involvement in the attacks in New York and Washington. What do you want to say about this? If you are not involved, who might be? USAMA BIN LADEN: In the name of Allah (God), the most beneficent, the most merciful. Praise be to Allah, Who is the creator of the whole universe and Who made the Earth as an abode for peace, for the whole humankind. Allah is the Sustainer, who sent Prophet Muhammad (saw) for our guidance. I am thankful to The Ummat Group of Publications, which gave me the opportunity to convey my viewpoint to the people, particularly the valiant and momin (true Muslim) people of Pakistan who refused to believe the lies of the demon (Pakistani military dictator General Pervez Musharraf). I have already said that I am not involved in the 11 September attacks in the United States. It is the United States, which is perpetrating every maltreatment on women, children and common people of other faiths, particularly the followers of Islam. All that is going on in Palestine for the last 11 months is sufficient to call the wrath of God upon the United States and Israel. There is also a warning for those Muslim countries, which witnessed all these as a silent spectator. What had earlier been done to the innocent people of Iraq, Chechnya and Bosnia? Only one conclusion could be derived from the indifference of the United States and the West to these acts of terror and the patronage of the tyrants by these powers that America is an anti Islamic power and it is patronizing the anti-Islamic forces. Its friendship with the Muslim countries is just a show, rather deceit. By enticing or intimidating these countries, the United States is forcing them to play a role of its choice. Put a glance all around and you will see that the slaves of the United States are either rulers or enemies of Muslims. The U.S. has no friends, nor does it want to keep any because the prerequisite of friendship is to come to the level of the friend or consider him at par with you. America does not want to see anyone equal to it. It expects slavery from others. Therefore, other countries are either its slaves or subordinates. However, our case is different. We have pledged slavery to God Almighty alone and after this pledge there is no possibility to become the slave of someone else. If we do that it will be disregardful to both our Sustainer and his fellow beings. Most of the world nations upholding their freedom are the religious ones, which are the enemies of the United States, or the U.S. itself considers them as its enemies. The countries which do not agree to become the U.S. slaves are China, Iran, Libya, Cuba, Syria [Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Sudan, Indonesia, Malaysia] and Russia. Whoever committed the act of 11 September are not the friends of the American people. I have already said that we are against the American system, not against its people, whereas in these attacks, the common American people have been killed. According to my information, the death toll is much higher than what the U.S. Government has stated. But the Bush Administration does not want the panic to spread. The United States should try to trace the perpetrators of these attacks within itself; the people who are a part of the U.S. system, but are dissenting against it. Or those who are working for some other system; persons who want to make the present century as a century of conflict between Islam and Christianity so that their own civilization, nation, country, or ideology could survive. They can be anyone, from Russia to Israel and from India to Serbia. In the U.S. itself, there are dozens of well-organized and well-equipped groups, which are capable of causing a large-scale destruction. Then you cannot forget the American Jews, who are annoyed with President Bush ever since the elections in Florida and want to avenge him. Then there are intelligence agencies in the U.S., which require billions of dollars worth of funds from the Congress and the government every year. This [funding issue] was not a big problem till the existence of the former Soviet Union but after that the budget of these agencies has been in danger. They needed an enemy. So, they first started propaganda against Usama and Taleban and then this incident happened. You see, the Bush Administration approved a budget of 40 billion dollars. Where will this huge amount go? It will be provided to the same agencies, which need huge funds and want to exert their importance. Now they will spend the money for their expansion and for increasing their importance. I will give you an example. Drug smugglers from all over the world are in contact with the U.S. secret agencies. These agencies do not want to eradicate narcotics cultivation and trafficking because their importance will be diminished. The people in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Department are encouraging drug trade so that they could show performance and get millions of dollars worth of budget. General Noriega was made a drug baron by the CIA and, in need, he was made a scapegoat. In the same way, whether it is President Bush or any other U.S. President, they cannot bring Israel to justice for its human rights abuses or to hold it accountable for such crimes. What is this? Is it not that there exists a government within the government in the United Sates? That secret government must be asked as to who carried out the attacks. Daily UMMAT: A number of world countries have joined the call of the United States for launching attacks on Afghanistan. These also include a number of Muslim countries. Will Al-Qaida declare a jehad against these Islamic countries as well? USAMA BIN LADEN: I must say that my duty is just to awaken the Muslims; to tell them as to what is good for them and what is not. What does Islam says and what the enemies of Islam want? Al-Qaida was set up to wage a jehad against infidelity, particularly to counter the onslaught of the infidel countries against the Islamic states. Jehad is the sixth undeclared pillar of Islam. [The first five being the basic holy words of Islam (There is only one God in the entire universe and Muhammad is the last Prophet of God), prayers, fast, pilgrimage to Mecca and giving alms (zakat).] Every anti-Islamic person is afraid of jehad. Al-Qaida wants to keep jehad alive and active and make it a part of the daily life of the Muslims. It wants to give it the status of worship. We are not against any Islamic country. We do not consider a war against an Islamic country as jehad. We are in favour of armed jehad only against those infidel governments, which are killing innocent Muslim men, women and children just because they are Muslims. Supporting the U.S. act is the need of some Muslim countries and the compulsion of others. However, they should think as to what will remain of their religious and moral position if they support the attack of the Christians and the Jews on a Muslim country like Afghanistan. The orders of Islamic Shariah [jurisprudence] for such individuals, organizations and countries are clear and all the scholars of the Muslim brotherhood are unanimous on them. We will do the same, which is being ordered by the Ameer-ul-Momeneen [the commander of the faithful Afghans] Muhammad Omar and the Islamic scholars. The hearts of the people of Muslim countries are beating with the call of jehad. We are grateful to them. Daily UMMAT: The losses caused in the attacks in New York and Washington have proved that giving an economic blow to the U.S.is not too difficult. U.S. experts admit that a few more such attacks can bring down the American economy. Why is Al-Qaida not targeting their economic pillars? USAMA BIN LADEN: I have already said that we are not hostile to the United States. We are against the [U.S. Government] system, which makes other nations slaves of the United States, or forces them to mortgage their political and economic freedom. This system is totally in control of the American-Jews, whose first priority is Israel, not the United States. It is clear that the American people are themselves the slaves of the Jews and are forced to live according to the principles and laws laid by them. So, the punishment should reach Israel. In fact, it is Israel, which is giving a blood bath to innocent Muslims and the U.S. is not uttering a single word. Daily UMMAT: Why is harm not caused to the enemies of Islam through other means, apart from the armed struggle? For instance, urging the Muslims to boycott Western products, banks, shipping lines and TV channels. USAMA BIN LADEN: The first thing is that Western products could only be boycotted when the Muslim fraternity is fully awakened and organized. Secondly, the Muslim companies should become self-sufficient in producing goods equal to the products of Western companies. Economic boycott of the West is not possible unless economic self-sufficiency is attained and substitute products are brought out. You see that wealth is scattered all across the Muslim World but not a single TV channel has been acquired which can preach Islamic injunctions according to modern requirements and attain an international influence. Muslim traders and philanthropists should make it a point that if the weapon of public opinion is to be used, it is to be kept in the hand. Today's world is of public opinion and the fates of nations are determined through its pressure. Once the tools for building public opinion are obtained, everything that you asked for can be done. Daily UMMAT: The entire propaganda about your struggle has so far been made by the Western media. But no information is beingreceived from your sources about the network of Al-Qaida and its jehadi successes. Would you comment? USAMA BIN LADEN: In fact, the Western media is left with nothing else. It has no other theme to survive for a long time. Then we have many other things to do. The struggle for jehad and the successes are for the sake of Allah and not to annoy His bondsmen. Our silence is our real propaganda. Rejections, explanations, or corrigendum only waste your time and through them, the enemy wants you to engage in things which are not of use to you. These things are pulling you away from your cause. The Western media is unleashing such a baseless propaganda, which makes us surprise but it reflects on what is in their hearts and gradually they themselves become captive of this propaganda. They become afraid of it and begin to cause harm to themselves. Terror is the most dreaded weapon in modern age and the Western media is mercilessly using it against its own people. It can add fear and helplessness in the psyche of the people of Europe and the United States. It means that what the enemies of the United States cannot do, its media is doing that. You can understand as to what will be the performance of the nation in a war, which suffers from fear and helplessness. Daily UMMAT: What will be the impact of the freeze of Al-Qaida accounts by the U.S.? USAMA BIN LADEN: God opens up ways for those who work for Him. Freezing of accounts will not make any difference for Al-Qaida or other jehad groups. With the grace of Allah, Al-Qaida has more than three alternative financial systems, which are all separate and totally independent from each other. This system is operating under the patronage of those who love jehad. What to say of the United States, even the combined world cannot budge these people from their path. These people are not in hundreds but in thousands and millions. Al-Qaida comprises of such modern educated youths who are aware of the cracks inside the Western financial system as they are aware of the lines in their hands. These are the very flaws of the Western fiscal system, which are becoming a noose for it and this system could not recuperate in spite of the passage of so many days. Daily UMMAT: Are there other safe areas other than Afghanistan, where you can continue jehad? USAMA BIN LADEN: There are areas in all parts of the world where strong jehadi forces are present, from Indonesia to Algeria, from Kabul to Chechnya, from Bosnia to Sudan, and from Burma to Kashmir. Then it is not the problem of my person. I am a helpless fellowman of God, constantly in the fear of my accountability before God. It is not the question of Usama but of Islam and, in Islam too, of jehad. Thanks to God, those waging a jehad can walk today with their heads raised. Jehad was still present when there was no Usama and it will remain as such even when Usama is no longer there. Allah opens up ways and creates loves in the hearts of people for those who walk on the path of Allah with their lives, property and children. Believe it, through jehad, a man gets everything he desires. And the biggest desire of a Muslim is the life after death. Martyrdom is the shortest way of attaining an eternal life. Daily UMMAT: What do you say about the Pakistan Government policy on Afghanistan attack? USAMA BIN LADEN: We are thankful to the Momin and valiant people of Pakistan who erected a blockade in front of the evil forces and stood in the first file of battle. Pakistan is a great hope for the Islamic brotherhood. Its people are awakened, organized and rich in the spirit of faith. They backed Afghanistan in its war against the Soviet Union and extended every help to the mojahedeen (freedom fighters) and the Afghan people. Then these are very Pakistanis who are standing shoulder by shoulder with the Taleban. If such people emerge in just two countries, the domination of the West will diminish in a matter of days. Our hearts beat with Pakistan and, God forbid, if a difficult time comes we will protect it with our blood. Pakistan is sacred for us like a place of worship. We are the people of jehad and fighting for the defense of Pakistan is the best of all jehads to us. It does not matter for us as to who reforms Pakistan. The important thing is that the spirit of jehad is alive and stronger in the hearts of the Pakistani people. - Source: Ummat, Urdu-language daily newspaper based in Karachi, Pakistan - Friday, 28 September 2001 - pages 1, 7. - Source: BBC Monitoring Service. - Source: http://www.khilafah.comhttp://www.khilafah.com/1421/category.php?DocumentID=2392&TagID=2 Carol A. However, far from pointing to Israeli spying against U.S. government and military facilities, as reported in Europe last week, the incidents in question appear to represent a case of Israelis in the United States spying on a common enemy, radical Islamic networks suspected of links to Middle East terrorism. In particular, a group of five Israelis arrested in New Jersey shortly after the September 11 attacks and held for more than two months was subjected to an unusual number of polygraph tests and interrogated by a series of government agencies including the FBI's counterintelligence division, which by some reports remains convinced that Israel was conducting an intelligence operation. The five Israelis worked for a moving company with few discernable assets that closed up shop immediately afterward and whose owner fled to Israel. Other allegations involved Israelis claiming to be art students who had backgrounds in signal interception and ordnance. (See related story, Page 8.) Sources emphasized that the release of all the Israelis under investigation indicates that they were cleared of any suspicion that they had prior knowledge of the September 11 attacks, as some anti-Israel media outlets have suggested. The resulting tensions between Washington and Jerusalem, sources told the Forward, arose not because of the operations' targets but because Israel reportedly violated a secret gentlemen's agreement between the two countries under which espionage on each other's soil is to be coordinated in advance. Most experts and former officials interviewed for this article said that such so-called unilateral or uncoordinated Israeli monitoring of radical Muslims in America would not be surprising. In fact, they said, Israeli intelligence played a key role in helping the Bush administration to crack down on Islamic charities suspected of funneling money to terrorist groups, most notably the Richardson, Texas-based Holy Land Foundation last December. "I have no doubt Israel has an interest in spying on those groups," said Peter Unsinger, an intelligence expert who teaches justice administration at San Jose University. "The Israelis give us good stuff, like on the Hamas charities." According to one former high-ranking American intelligence official, who asked not to be named, the FBI came to the conclusion at the end of its investigation that the five Israelis arrested in New Jersey last September were conducting a Mossad surveillance mission and that their employer, Urban Moving Systems of Weehawken, N.J., served as a front. After their arrest, the men were held in detention for two-and-a-half months and were deported at the end of November, officially for visa violations. However, a counterintelligence investigation by the FBI concluded that at least two of them were in fact Mossad operatives, according to the former American official, who said he was regularly briefed on the investigation by two separate law enforcement officials. "The assessment was that Urban Moving Systems was a front for the Mossad and operatives employed by it," he said. "The conclusion of the FBI was that they were spying on local Arabs but that they could leave because they did not know anything about 9/11." However, he added, the bureau was "very irritated because it was a case of so-called unilateral espionage, meaning they didn't know about it." Spokesmen for the FBI, the Justice Department and the Immigration and Naturalization Service refused to discuss the case. Israeli officials flatly dismissed the allegations as untrue. However, the former American official said that after American authorities confronted Jerusalem on the issue at the end of last year, the Israeli government acknowledged the operation and apologized for not coordinating it with Washington. The five men — Sivan and Paul Kurzberg, Oded Ellner, Omer Marmari and Yaron Shmuel — were arrested eight hours after the attacks by the Bergen County, N.J., police while driving in an Urban Moving Systems van. The police acted on an FBI alert after the men allegedly were seen acting strangely while watching the events from the roof of their warehouse and the roof of their van. In addition to their strange behavior and their Middle Eastern looks, the suspicions were compounded when a box cutter and $4,000 in cash were found in the van. Moreover, one man carried two passports and another had fresh pictures of the men standing with the smoldering wreckage of the World Trade Center in the background. The Bergen County police immediately handed the suspects to the INS, which turned them over to a joint police-FBI terrorism task force set up after September 11 to deal with all possible links with the attacks. The five Israelis were detained in the high-security Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn in solitary confinement until mid-October. On September 25, they all signed papers acknowledging violations of U However, the former official said, this is just the official story. In fact, he said, the nature of the investigation changed after the names of two of the five Israelis showed up on a CIA-FBI database of foreign intelligence operatives, he said. At that point, he said, the bureau took control of the investigation and launched a Foreign Counterintelligence Investigation, or FCI. FBI investigations into possible links to the September 11 attacks are usually carried by the bureau's counterterrorism division, not its counterintelligence division. "An FCI means not only that it was serious but also that it was handled at a very high level and very tightly," the former official said. That view was echoed by several former FBI officials interviewed. Steven Gordon, an American lawyer hired by the families to help secure their release, said he could not confirm which FBI division was in charge of the investigation. However, he acknowledged that "there were a lot of people involved, including counterintelligence officials from the FBI." The men all underwent at least two polygraph tests each, the lawyer added. He said one of the Israelis took the test seven times, a very unusual total according to several polygraph experts interviewed by the Forward. After the men were arrested, FBI agents searched the warehouse of Urban Moving Systems in Weehawken, N.J., seizing computer hard drives and documents. The warehouse was closed on September 14, said Ron George, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Division of Consumer Affairs. On December 7, a New Jersey judge ruled that the state could seize the goods remaining inside the warehouse. The state also has a lawsuit pending against Urban Moving Systems and its owner, Dominik Otto Suter, an Israeli citizen. The FBI questioned Mr. Suter once. However, he left the country afterward and went back to Israel before further questioning. Mr. Suter declined through his lawyer to be interviewed for this article. Earlier this year, the New York State Department of Transportation revoked Urban Moving System's license after discovering that the company's midtown Manhattan base was only a mailing address. After they returned to Israel at the end of November, the five men told local media that they were kept in solitary confinement, beaten, deprived of food and questioned while blindfolded and in their underwear. Mr. Ellner, one of the five Israelis, said on two occasions in recent weeks that the five men had decided not to grant any interviews right now "because we went through a very difficult period and we are not ready for this." Their Israeli lawyer, Ram Horwitz, told the Forward he was still waiting for the results of the medical tests undertaken by the men in Israel to make a decision on an eventual lawsuit in the United States for mistreatment. Mr. Horwitz insisted the men were not intelligence officers. Irit Stoffer, an Israeli Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said the allegations were "completely untrue" and that there were "only visa violations." "The FBI investigated those cases because of 9/11," Ms. Stoffer said. Charlene Eban, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Washington, and Don Nelson, a Justice Department spokesman, said they had no knowledge of an Israeli spying operation. "If we found evidence of unauthorized intelligence operations, that would be classified material," added Jim Margolin, a spokesman for the FBI in New York. One leading expert in American intelligence operations, Chip Berlet, a senior analyst at the Boston-based Political Research Associates, explained that there "is a backdoor agreement between allies that says that if one of your spies gets caught and didn't do too much harm, he goes home. It goes on all the time. The official reason is always a visa violation." == (6) Footnote 21: (ABC News) Were Israelis Detained on Sept. 11 Spies? http://abcnews.go.com/sections/2020/DailyNews/2020_whitevan_020621.html The White Van Were Israelis Detained on Sept. 11 Spies? June 21 — Millions saw the horrific images of the World Trade Center attacks, and those who saw them won't forget them. But a New Jersey homemaker saw something that morning that prompted an investigation into five young Israelis and their possible connection to Israeli intelligence. Maria, who asked us not to use her last name, had a view of the World Trade Center from her New Jersey apartment building. She remembers a neighbor calling her shortly after the first plane hit the towers. She grabbed her binoculars and watched the destruction unfolding in lower Manhattan. But as she watched the disaster, something else caught her eye. Maria says she saw three young men kneeling on the roof of a white van in the parking lot of her apartment building. "They seemed to be taking a movie," Maria said. The men were taking video or photos of themselves with the World Trade Center burning in the background, she said. What struck Maria were the expressions on the men's faces. "They were like happy, you know … They didn't look shocked to me. I thought it was very strange," she said. She found the behavior so suspicious that she wrote down the license plate number of the van and called the police. Before long, the FBI was also on the scene, and a statewide bulletin was issued on the van. The plate number was traced to a van owned by a company called Urban Moving. Around 4 p.m. on Sept. 11, the van was spotted on a service road off Route 3, near New Jersey's Giants Stadium. A police officer pulled the van over, finding five men, between 22 and 27 years old, in the vehicle. The men were taken out of the van at gunpoint and handcuffed by police. The arresting officers said they saw a lot that aroused their suspicion about the men. One of the passengers had $4,700 in cash hidden in his sock. Another was carrying two foreign passports. A box cutter was found in the van. But perhaps the biggest surprise for the officers came when the five men identified themselves as Israeli citizens. ‘We Are Not Your Problem’ According to the police report, one of the passengers told the officers they had been on the West Side Highway in Manhattan "during the incident" — referring to the World Trade Center attack. The driver of the van, Sivan Kurzberg, told the officers, "We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem." The other passengers were his brother Paul Kurzberg, Yaron Shmuel, Oded Ellner and Omer Marmari. When the men were transferred to jail, the case was transferred out of the FBI's Criminal Division, and into the bureau's Foreign Counterintelligence Section, which is responsible for espionage cases, ABCNEWS has learned. One reason for the shift, sources told ABCNEWS, was that the FBI believed Urban Moving may have been providing cover for an Israeli intelligence operation. After the five men were arrested, the FBI got a warrant and searched Urban Moving's Weehawken, N.J., offices. The FBI searched Urban Moving's offices for several hours, removing boxes of documents and a dozen computer hard drives. The FBI also questioned Urban Moving's owner. His attorney insists that his client answered all of the FBI's questions. But when FBI agents tried to interview him again a few days later, he was gone. Three months later 2020's cameras photographed the inside of Urban Moving, and it looked as if the business had been shut down in a big hurry. Cell phones were lying around; office phones were still connected; and the property of dozens of clients remained in the warehouse. The owner had also cleared out of his New Jersey home, put it up for sale and returned with his family to Israel. ‘A Scary Situation’ Steven Gordon, the attorney for the five Israeli detainees, acknowledged that his clients' actions on Sept. 11 would easily have aroused suspicions. "You got a group of guys that are taking pictures, on top of a roof, of the World Trade Center. They're speaking in a foreign language. They got two passports on 'em. One's got a wad of cash on him, and they got box cutters. Now that's a scary situation." But Gordon insisted that his clients were just five young men who had come to America for a vacation, ended up working for a moving company, and were taking pictures of the event. The five Israelis were held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, ostensibly for overstaying their tourist visas and working in the United States illegally. Two weeks after their arrest, an immigration judge ordered them to be deported. But sources told ABCNEWS that FBI and CIA officials in Washington put a hold on the case. The five men were held in detention for more than two months. Some of them were placed in solitary confinement for 40 days, and some of them were given as many as seven lie-detector tests. Plenty of Speculation Since their arrest, plenty of speculation has swirled about the case, and what the five men were doing that morning. Eventually, The Forward, a respected Jewish newspaper in New York, reported the FBI concluded that two of the men were Israeli intelligence operatives. Vince Cannistraro, a former chief of operations for counterterrorism with the CIA who is now a consultant for ABCNEWS, said federal authorities' interest in the case was heightened when some of the men's names were found in a search of a national intelligence database. Israeli Intelligence Connection? According to Cannistraro, many people in the U.S. intelligence community believed that some of the men arrested were working for Israeli intelligence. Cannistraro said there was speculation as to whether Urban Moving had been "set up or exploited for the purpose of launching an intelligence operation against radical Islamists in the area, particularly in the New Jersey-New York area." Under this scenario, the alleged spying operation was not aimed against the United States, but at penetrating or monitoring radical fund-raising and support networks in Muslim communities like Paterson, N.J., which was one of the places where several of the hijackers lived in the months prior to Sept. 11. For the FBI, deciphering the truth from the five Israelis proved to be difficult. One of them, Paul Kurzberg, refused to take a lie-detector test for 10 weeks — then failed it, according to his lawyer. Another of his lawyers told us Kurzberg had been reluctant to take the test because he had once worked for Israeli intelligence in another country. Sources say the Israelis were targeting these fund-raising networks because they were thought to be channeling money to Hamas and Islamic Jihad, groups that are responsible for most of the suicide bombings in Israel. "[The] Israeli government has been very concerned about the activity of radical Islamic groups in the United States that could be a support apparatus to Hamas and Islamic Jihad," Cannistraro said. The men denied that they had been working for Israeli intelligence out of the New Jersey moving company, and Ram Horvitz, their Israeli attorney, dismissed the allegations as "stupid and ridiculous." Mark Regev, the spokesman for the Israeli Embassy in Washington, goes even further, asserting the issue was never even discussed with U.S. officials. "These five men were not involved in any intelligence operation in the United States, and the American intelligence authorities have never raised this issue with us," Regev said. "The story is simply false." No ‘Pre-Knowledge’ Despite the denials, sources tell ABCNEWS there is still debate within the FBI over whether or not the young men were spies. Many U.S. government officials still believe that some of them were on a mission for Israeli intelligence. But the FBI told ABCNEWS, "To date, this investigation has not identified anybody who in this country had pre-knowledge of the events of 9/11." Sources also said that even if the men were spies, there is no evidence to conclude they had advance knowledge of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11. The investigation, at the end of the day, after all the polygraphs, all of the field work, all the cross-checking, the intelligence work, concluded that they probably did not have advance knowledge of 9/11," Cannistraro noted. As to what they were doing on the van, they say they read about the attack on the Internet, couldn't see it from their offices and went to the parking lot for a better view. But no one has been able to find a good explanation for why they may have been smiling with the towers of the World Trade Center burning in the background. Both the lawyers for the young men and the Israeli Embassy chalk it up to immature conduct. According to ABCNEWS sources, Israeli and U.S. government officials worked out a deal — and after 71 days, the five Israelis were taken out of jail, put on a plane, and deported back home. While the former detainees refused to answer ABCNEWS' questions about their detention and what they were doing on Sept. 11, several of the detainees discussed their experience in America on an Israeli talk show after their return home. Said one of the men, denying that they were laughing or happy on the morning of Sept. 11, "The fact of the matter is we are coming from a country that experiences terror daily. Our purpose was to document the event." ABCNEWS' Chris Isham, John Miller, Glenn Silber and Chris Vlasto contributed to this report. | http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/israelswithnukes.html FBI Fury As Men With Nuke Plans, Valid ISRAELI Passports Escape By Katty Kay The Times, London 11-2-1 WASHINGTON - With America on top security alert, the FBI was hunting yesterday for six men of Middle Eastern appearance carrying plans of a nuclear power plant and the Trans-Alaska oil pipeline who were picked up by police in the Midwest over the weekend but then released. The incident is thought to be connected with the latest FBI alert and senior intelligence officials are furious that the men were set free before they could be fully questioned. The men were travelling in two groups of three in white saloon cars when they were pulled over by police officers in the Midwest, according to the Knight Ridder News Service. Security officials have refused to disclose further details. The men were searched and questioned and the state officers discovered detailed plans and photographs of a nuclear power in Florida, along with box cutters-the weapons used in the September 11 attacks- and other equipment. The men, who appeared to be of Middle Eastern origin and held Israeli passports, were then interviewed by immigration officials. When their passports and visas were found to be in order the officers, who were not aware of the country's imminent security alert, let the men go without first calling in the FBI to question them more thoroughly. It is not clear why the men were pulled over in the first place nor why intelligence officers were not given a chance to interview them. Agents suspect that the men will by now have switched cars and tried to flee the country, possibly to Canada. Intelligence officials were especially concerned about the nuclear plant details. America's nuclear facilities received special attention in the latest FBI alert. The men were also carrying plans of the 800-mile Trans-Alaska pipeline, which delivers 17 per cent of America's oil. There are three nuclear facilities in Florida, which have now been advised to step up security. One of the plants has called in local police as an extra security precaution. The news came as the US banned private flights near US nuclear facilities for the next ten days, in connection with the warning of another terrorist attack, and National Guard troops were deployed at nuclear power plants in three southern states. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission ordered the nation's 103 nuclear power plants to increase security. At a time when police have unprecedented powers to arrest and detain people who are merely suspected of having links to terrorist activities, the release of these six men has infuriated the FBI. The incident suggests a dangerous lack of co-ordination between different law enforcement bodies. Under America's new anti-terrorist laws, police can hold someone almost indefinitely on charges of being a "material witness" to terrorism. Canada announced that it had given the US important intelligence about another possible imminent terrorist attack. Canadian secret services intercepted telephone calls and e-mails from al-Qaeda operatives in Canada that referred to a major event taking place "down south" this week. Law enforcement officials said that the US military intercepted numerous other calls leading up to the alert, which all used the same coded phrases. The FBI received intelligence about the new threat on Monday. It contains embedded links, but I have made them explicit, enclosed in <..> - Peter M} "FAHRENHEIT 9/11" documents that the American people have been lied to in the push for war. There were no weapons of mass destruction. Saddam was not a threat. Iraq had no link to 9-11. Iraq was not supporting Al Qaeda. The government of Iraq under Saddam killed far fewer Iraqi people than the government of Iraq under George Bush. The Kurds were actually gassed by Iran (and does the name "Waco" ring a bell?). The only nuclear weapons found in Iraq are the tons of depleted uranium munitions dropped on the Iraqi people by the United States. And, far from being the champion of human rights, the United States stands exposed as a willing user of torture on prisoners who in many cases were innocent of any wrongdoing. That's the major message. We The People were lied to about, well, just about everything. Including 9-11 itself. Bush sat there and read about goats <http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/schoolvideo.html> while the towers fell. The video tape of "Osama's" confession <http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/osamatape.html> turned out to be fake. Osama himself turned out to be a fake, a CIA asset trained and funded by the US to fight the USSR in Afghanistan <http://proliberty.com/observer/20011005.htm>. Blair's dossier turned out to be fake, plagiarized from a student thesis <http://www.isn.ethz.ch/infoservice/secwatch/index.cfm?service=cwn&parent=detail&menu=8&sNewsID=572>. The mobile biological weapons trailers turned out to be fake; actually balloon inflators sold by the British to Iraq <http://www.command-post.org/2_archives/007521.html>. And on and on and on. Deception after deception after deception. Everyone agrees on this major message. We've been lied to. We are the victims of history's greatest and deadliest hoax; a hoax perpetrated to ignite a war of conquest. Michael Moore's film does a great job of confronting that deadly fact. But, Michael Moore has himself either fallen for disinformation, or simply not done his homework, and seems willing to accept without question the official story of 9-11. Now, it may be that Michael Moore just didn't care to get into 9-11 itself that deeply. Moore seems mostly focused on the aircraft allowed to fly out of the United States in the days immediately after 9-11 while the rest of the nation's aircraft were grounded. On these flights were members of Osama bin Laden's family. The Bush's and bin Ladens go back a long way. Osama's brother was George's business partner in Abusto Energy and source of the seed money to start the company. It is reportedly because of this connection that Osama was recruited to play holy warrior for the CIA in Afghanistan against the USSR. So there is no question that those flights did occur, and that Osama's family members were among the passengers. At issue is whether this fact of the aircraft flights points the finger of blame for 9-11 at Saudi Arabia. After first being told that Afghanistan was to blame for 9-11, then Iraq was to blame for 9-11, one should take any claims of any Arab country being identified as the perpetrator of 9-11 with a huge heaping of salt. Michael Moore, who clearly recognized the claims about Iraq's Weapons of Mass Destruction, the supposed link from Saddam to Al Qaeda and to 9-11 as lies, shows a dangerous naiveté in his willingness accept the official story of 9-11 without question. So, let's take a look at the idea of Saudi Arabia as the perpetrator of 9-11. Why would they do it? What would they gain? Immediately after the attacks, former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was asked what the attack would mean for US-Israeli relations <http://www.mideastjournal.com/israelexploitswtc.html>. His quick reply was: "It's very good……. Well, it's not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy (for Israel)". The months since 9-11 have borne that out. US support for Israel's agenda grew stronger as Israel committed more atrocities against the Palestinians. More money flowed from the US to Israel. World opinion, which had been growing against Israel's treatment of the Palestinians, temporarily abated. World hostility towards Arabs in general grew. Forgotten was the fact that Israel was actually in defiance of more UN Resolutions than Saddam had ever been <http://www.middleeastnews.com/unresolutionslist.html>. And, it was assumed at the start of the war that direct access to Iraq's oil would reduce American demand for Saudi oil, and likely force prices down as Iraq's oil came to market. So, where was the motive? Do you really think Saudi Arabia would commit an act that would strengthen US-Israeli ties? Do you really think Saudi Arabia would commit an act that would undercut their own oil revenues? Do you really think Saudi Arabia would commit an act that would anger the world against Arabs? Do you really think Saudi Arabia would commit an act that could result in their almost one trillion dollars invested in the United States to be legally frozen and confiscated? Me neither. If Saudi Arabia wanted to hurt the United States, all they would have to do is withdraw their investment cash all at once. The move would be perfectly legal, and cause greater economic damage than the 9-11 attacks. Here are some facts that for some reason did not make it into the final cut of "Fahrenheit 9/11" On 9-11, five men were arrested for suspicious behavior, cheering and laughing while the WTC collapsed <http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/fiveisraelis.html>. In the van police found cash, multiple passports, and maps with the World Trade Center highlighted. Bomb-sniffing dogs indicated explosives residue were present in the truck. The arrested men were Israelis, later identified by Pacific Radio as agents of the Israeli intelligence service, the Mossad. According to Carl Cameron's FOX News story on the Israeli spy ring, the US Government classified evidence that linked the arrested Israeli spies to 9-11<http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/spyring.html>. The Mossad agents were using a moving company, Urban Moving Systems, for a cover. The owner of the company, Dominic Suter, abandoned his business after 9-11 and fled to Israel on 9-14. The 9-11 scene was littered with passports using Saudi names, passports which the FBI admitted just ten days later were high-quality fakes using identities stolen from Arab men <http://www.cnn.com/2001/US/09/21/inv.id.theft/>. We don't know who was on those planes, only who we were supposed to THINK were on those planes. Why would Saudi Arabia commit 9-11 and use phony passports pointing back to themselves? If Saudi Arabia had done 9-11, it is safe to assume the phony passports would have likely pointed to Israel. FBI Director Robert Mueller has admitted in public that there is actually no evidence that proves the named 9-11 hijackers were actually on the aircraft <http://www.americanfreepress.net/Conspiracy/20_FBI_ADMITS-NO_EVIDENCE-LINK.htm>. The warnings of the attack sent to Odigo in New York and Israel before the 9-11 planes had even left the ground <http://billstclair.com/911timeline/2001/wpost092801.html> confirms beyond question that Israeli-linked companies did receive advance warning. Why would Saudi Arabia warn Israeli companies if they were behind 9-11? It wasn't a Saudi-owned company in charge of security at all three of the 9-11 airports <http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/ICTS.html>. If Saudi Arabia was really behind 9-11, would they have waited until AFTER the attacks to get out of town, thereby bringing unfavorable attention to themselves? Given that Odigo received an early warning of the impending attack, wouldn't the Saudis have known it was about to occur and headed for the airport before the attack happened, if Saudi Arabia was the real culprit? If Saudi Arabia was a partner with Al Qaeda for 9-11, why is Al Qaeda carrying out terror attacks against the Saudi Royal family now? Speaking of "Al Qaeda", when Palestinian police arrested an Al Qaeda cell, they discovered they were holding a group of Mossad agents <http://www.whatreallyhappened.com/fakealqaeda.html>. A final point: The nation that helped the US Government stage a fake terror event to launch wars of conquest in the Mideast would be in an ideal position to blackmail the US Government with that very secret. So, look back over the more than two years since 9-11 and find the nation for whom the US Government just cannot seem to do enough, cannot give enough money and weapons, cannot block enough UN Resolutions, the nation for whom a long standing neutral foreign policy has been cast aside in favor out total support for an expansionist agenda. Find the nation whose leaders openly brag of their control of the US Government. If Michael Moore didn't quite do all his homework with regard to who may have been behind the 9-11 attack, that does not change the fact that the people of the United States were lied to to trick them into wars. And it is THAT message of the film which is the important one. But the hard fact remains that Michael Moore did not get ALL of the story of 9-11. Not by a long shot. "Fahrenheit 9/11" is just the tip of the iceberg. Fahrenheit 9/11 is not an indictment of just George Bush. Fahrenheit 9/11 is not an indictment of just Republicans. Fahrenheit 9/11 is an indictment of the entire US Government that had to know Bush was lying to the American people to initiate a war and stood there smiling blandly while he did it. Like Hitler, Bush could not do what he did without a lot of cooperation by the entire government and the media. Look at the voting records for the authorization for the use of force in Iraq and in the draconian assaults on our freedoms. Both parties voted those "Ayes". The rush to war and dictatorship was a bipartisan one, worthy of bipartisan blame. Everyone is spinning Fahrenheit 9/11 to attack their own favorite scapegoats, but the truth is there is more than enough blame for the wars and the current state of the nation to share all around. (2) Windows file find utility Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 18:26:12 +0100 From: *** *** All Windows versions have a file find utility. It's on the Start Menu. Just click the Start button on the Task Bar (usually at the bottom of the screen) and 'Find' or 'Search' is one of the items on it. I don't remember where Netscape keeps its files. If Phil does a search for 'netscape' that should show folders called netscape too and the files will be somewhere in there or in some subfolder. The browser designers are particularly creepy and try to hide the caches so you can't find so-called 'streaming' media files and the suchlike. What exactly is Phil looking for? Do we know? {end} REPLY (Peter M): I told Phil how to read browser cache files, to get around censorship. On a Mac, Netscape's cache folder is called "cache f". Do a find on that - the name is probably the same in Windows. What is the name of Internet Explorer's cache folder, in Windows? In one's browser's Preferences, one sets a Cache Size in Megabytes. This is the size of the cache folder. That folder contains lots of text, image and sound files, which have been downloaded while surfing. It's a record of what you've been doing. If you don't want other people to pry into that, empty your cache folder at the end of each session. It's an option at one of your browser's menus. (3) Sibel Edmonds, FBI translator; and Senate Intelligence Committee Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 14:32:03 -0700 From: "True Seaborn" <tseaborn1@socal.rr.com> Fascinating and alarming story about Sibel Edmonds, the FBI translator. It does challenge my confidence in Ashcroft. Her accusations about FBI bureaucratic coverup and CYA behavior bear an eerie similarity to the story told by Rita Katz, the author of Terrorist Hunter (originally published anonymously by HarperCollins a year or two ago). I'm convinced there's something rotten in the FBI, and the hell of it is, there's probably nothing we can do about it. Re "Senate fury over Pentagon cell that briefed White House on Iraq": You should take a look at some of the work done by Yossef Bodansky, author of The Man Who Declared War on America (available at Amazon), Director of the Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional warfare for the U.S. Congress, and contributing editor of Defense & Foreign Affairs: Strategic Policy. He has written widely for such specialized journals as Jane's Defense Weekly and Global Affairs. His articles are widely available on the Internet. Also see the work of Jayna Davis (www.jaynadavis.com). These two researchers provide a decidedly different perspective of the Iraqi role in terrorism in the US. That their work is scrupulously ignored by the Senate Intelligence Committee and the 9/11 Commission is puzzling and disappointing. (4) Corrupted Intelligence, by Ray McGovern Date: Mon, 12 Jul 2004 15:25:21 -0700 (PDT) From: rainesco@earthlink.net http://www.tompaine.com/articles/corrupted_intelligence.php Corrupted Intelligence Ray McGovern July 12, 2004 McGovern and other veteran intelligence officers spent the weekend digesting the Senate Intelligence Committee report and ended up sick to their stomachs. Not only did the report confirm what they already knew - that the CIA skewed intelligence - but corruption ran much deeper, with analysts cooking up outright lies. In the wake of the report, McGovern worries media across the political spectrum aren't doing their job. They are buying without question the administration spin about the Senate report: that the White House lead the nation to war because of bad intelligence, rather than ill-conceived policy. Ray McGovern, a CIA analyst for 27 years, is co-founder of Veteran Intelligence Professionals for Sanity. ----- In our various oral and written presentations on Iraq, my veteran intelligence officer colleagues and I took no delight in sharply criticizing what we perceived to be the corruption of intelligence analysis at CIA. Nothing would have pleased us more than to have been proven wrong. It turns out we did not know the half of it. Several of us have just spent a painful weekend digesting the report of the Senate Intelligence Committee on prewar intelligence assessments on Iraq. The corruption is far deeper than we suspected. The only silver lining is that corrupter-in-chief George Tenet is now gone. When the former CIA director departed, he left behind an agency on life support - an institution staffed by sycophant managers and thoroughly demoralized analysts, who are embarrassed at their own naiveté in believing that the passage carved into the marble at the entrance to CIA Headquarters - "You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" - held real meaning for their work. The Senate Committee report is meticulous. Its findings are a sharp blow to those of us who took pride in working in an agency where we could speak truth to power - with career protection from retribution from the powerful, and with leaders who would face down those policymakers who tried to exert undue influence over our analysis. Enter "Joe Centrifuge" Although it was clear to us that much of the intelligence on Iraq had been cooked to the recipe of policy, not until the Senate report did we know that the skewing included outright lies. We had heard of "Joe," the nuclear weapons analyst in CIA's Center for Weapons Intelligence and Arms Control, and it was abundantly clear that his agenda was to "prove" that the infamous aluminum tubes sought by Iraq were to be used for developing a nuclear weapon. We did not know that he and his CIA associates deliberately falsified the data - including rotor testing ironically called "spin tests." The Senate committee determined that "Joe" deliberately skewed data to fit preconceptions regarding an Iraqi nuclear threat. "Who could have believed that about our intelligence community, that the system could be so dishonest?" wondered the normally soft-spoken David Albright, a widely respected veteran expert on Iraq's work toward developing a nuclear weapon. I share his wonderment. I too am appalled - and angry. You give 27 years of your professional life to an institution whose main mission - to get at the truth - is essential for orderly policy making, and then you find it has been prostituted. You realize that your former colleagues lacked the moral courage to rebuff efforts to enlist them as accomplices in deception. Deception that involved hoodwinking our elected representatives into giving their blessing to an ill-conceived, unnecessary war. Even Republican stalwart Sen. Pat Roberts, chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has conceded that, had Congress known before the vote for war what his committee has now discovered, "I doubt if the votes would have been there." Catering To The Powers That Be It turns out that only one U.S. analyst had met with the Iraqi defector appropriately codenamed "Curveball" - the source of the scary tale about mobile biological weapons factories - and that this analyst, in an e-mail to the deputy director of CIA's task force on weapons of mass destruction, raised strong doubt regarding Curveball's reliability before Colin Powell highlighted his claims at the United Nations on Feb. 5, 2003. I almost became physically ill reading the cynical response from the deputy director of the task force: "As I said last night, let's keep in mind the fact that this war's going to happen regardless of what Curveball said or didn't say, and the powers that be probably aren't terribly interested in whether Curveball knows what he's talking about." (Reading this brought to consciousness a painful flashback to early August 1964. We CIA analysts knew that reports of a second attack on U.S. destroyers in the Tonkin Gulf were spurious but were prevented from reporting that. The director of current intelligence explained to us condescendingly that President Johnson had decided to use the non-incident as a pretext to escalate the war and that "we do not want to wear out our welcome at the White House." So this kind of politicization, though rare in the past, is not without precedent - and not without similarly woeful consequences.) With respect to Iraq, George Tenet's rhetoric about "truth" and "honesty" in his valedictory last week has a distinctly Orwellian ring. Worse still, apparently "Joe Centrifuge," the abovementioned deputy director, and other co-conspirators will get off scot-free. Sen. Roberts says he thinks, "It is very important that we quit looking in the rearview mirror and affixing blame and, you know, pointing fingers." And Acting Director John McLaughlin has told the press that he sees no need to dismiss anyone as a result of what he portrayed as honest, limited mistakes. Tell It To The Families I would like to hear Roberts and McLaughlin explain all this to the families of the almost 900 U.S. servicemen and women already killed and the many thousand seriously wounded in Iraq. Roberts seemed at pains to lay the blame on a "flawed system," but a close reading of the committee report yields the unavoidable conclusion that CIA analysis can no longer be assumed to be honest - to be aimed at getting as close to the truth as one can humanly get. For those of you cynics about to smirk, I can only tell you - believe it or not - that truth was in fact the currency of analysis in the CIA in which I was proud to serve. Aberrations like the Tonkin Gulf cave-in notwithstanding, the analysis directorate was widely known as the unique place in Washington where one could normally go and expect a straight answer unencumbered by any political agenda. And we were hard into some very controversial - often critical - national security issues. It boggles my mind how any president, and particularly one whose father headed the CIA, could expect to be able, without that capability, to make intelligent judgments based on unbiased fact. It is said that truth is the first casualty of war. Sadly, in the case of Iraq, even before the war, truth took a back seat to a felt need to snuggle up to power - to stay in good standing with a president and his advisers, all well known to be hell-bent on war on Iraq. Caution: Don't Be Fooled The Washington Times lead story on July 10 began: "Flawed intelligence led the United States to invade Iraq was the fault of the US intelligence community…a report by the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence concluded yesterday." From the other end of the political spectrum, David Corn of The Nation led his own report with, "The United States went to war on the basis of false claims." Not so. This is precisely the spin that the Bush administration wants to give to the Senate report; i. e., that the president was misled; that his decision for war was based on spurious intelligence about non-existent weapons of mass destruction. But the president's decision for war had little to do with intelligence on Iraqi weapons of mass destruction. It had everything to do with the administration's determination to gain control of strategic, oil-rich Iraq, implant an enduring military presence there, and - not incidentally - eliminate any possible threat from Iraq to Israel's security. These, of course, are not the reasons given to justify placing U.S. troops in harm's way, but even the most circumspect senior officials have had unguarded moments of candor. For example, when asked in May 2003 why North Korea was being treated differently from Iraq, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz responded, "Let's look at it simply…The country (Iraq) swims on a sea of oil." And basking in the glory of "Mission Accomplished" shortly after Baghdad had been taken, Wolfowitz admitted that the focus on weapons of mass destruction to justify the attack on Iraq was "for bureaucratic reasons." It was, he added, "the one reason everyone could agree on" - meaning, of course, the one that could successfully sell the war to Congress and the American people. The Israel factor? In another moment of unusual candor - this one before the war - Philip Zelikow, a member of the President's Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board from 2001 to 2003 (and now executive director of the 9/11 commission), pointed to the danger that Iraq posed to Israel as "the unstated threat - a threat that dare not speak its name…because it is not a popular sell. Last, but hardly least, it was not until several months after the Bush White House decided to make war on Iraq that the weapons-of-mass-destruction-laden National Intelligence Estimate was commissioned, and then only because Congress needed to be persuaded that the threat was so immediate that war was necessary. Vice President Dick Cheney set the main parameters in a major speech on Aug. 26, 2002, in which he declared, "We know that Saddam has resumed his efforts to acquire nuclear weapons." The estimate Tenet signed dutifully endorsed that spurious judgment - with "high confidence," no less. Is There Hope? If hope is what was found at the bottom of Pandora's box, it can be found here too. That there are still honest, perceptive analysts at CIA is clear from the analysis that Anonymous sets forth in his excellent book, Imperial Hubris: Why the West is Losing the War on Terror . (Note to Condoleezza Rice: Anonymous' name is Michael Scheuer; he is an overt employee; you can get his extension from the CIA operator.) As long as analysts of that caliber hang in there, there can be hope that, once the CIA is given the adult supervision it has lacked for the last 25 years, it can fulfill its critical mission for our country. (5) Ancient European remains found in Qinghai http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2004-07/06/content_1576929.htm China View Ancient European remains found in Qinghai http://www.chinaview.cn 2004-07-06 15:32:53 XINING, July 6 (Xinhuanet) -- Archeologists confirmed that the human skeletons discovered this May in northwest China's Qinghai Province belonged to three Europeans who lived in China over 1,900 years ago. "The physical characteristics of the bones showed it is a typical European race," said Wang Minghui, an expert with the archeological institute under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. The skeletons were spotted at Zhongchuan Town of the province's eastern most Minhe Hui and Tu Autonomous County. Since 2002, archeologists have unearthed nine tombs of Han Dynasty (206 BC-220 AD) at a construction site of a brickfield in the town, but it was not until this May that they felt the skeletons in two tombs "very special", said Ren Xiaoyan, deputy director if the provincial archeological institute, who added they invited Wang, who specializes in human bone identification, to take part in the study on the findings. Qinghai is on the southern section of the world-known land trade corridor -- the Silk Road, linking China with Central and Western Asia and to the eastern shores of the Mediterranean begins in the country's northwest and runs 7,000 kilometers. Serving as an important bridge for the economic and cultural exchanges between the East and the West, the area, which the Silk Road covered in China, used to see throngs of Indian, Persian, Arabic, Greek and Roman people. Ren said the tomb shape, the burial articles and the way they were put in the tomb are all typical in Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), which proved the three westerners had lived here for a long time and were accustomed to local traditions and customs. "Although so far, we have been not sure of the country the three Europeans came from and there might be a large number of such 'westerners' living here at the ancient time," said Ren. Such European skeletons have only been revealed in northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, a neighboring region which is to the northwest of Qinghai, so the discovery this time is of great importance for the study of the ancient society in Qinghai, said Wang. | ----- Original Message ----- From: Jeff Blankfort Sent: Sunday, June 06, 2004 2:43 AM Subject: American Journalism Review Reports on Zionist Media Coercion Quite apart from the government agencies monitoring what people are saying and writing, there is nothing in the private sector that is comparable to the censorship that Zionist media monitors are trying to enforce on the US media with no paper apparently spared from their fascistic mindset. One can imagine how the struggle against South African apartheid would have been covered in the US media, if we had the South African Afrikaner equivalent of the Zionists who are clearly getting away with exercising their powers here. Jeff From American Journalism Review, June/July 2004 issue Caught in the Crossfire Perhaps no topic elicits so much bitter criticism as coverage of the Middle East. As hard-line supporters of Israel and the Palestinians wage a proxy war via e-mail, threatening phone calls and demonstrations, correspondents and news organizations find themselves the targets of condemnation, often highly personal. Related reading: You Say Wall. I Say Fence... By Barbara Matusow Barbara Matusow, a former AJR senior contributing editor and Washingtonian magazine contributor, has written about the news media for more than 20 years. The Zionist Organization of America didn't wait long before declaring war on the Philadelphia Inquirer's new editor. The leaders of the ZOA's local chapter were polite when they called on Amanda Bennett last year, less than three months after she took over, but the message they delivered was blunt. Bennett says the chairman, Michael Goldblatt, told her the organization was going to continue its efforts to hurt the Inquirer economically, while the president, Leonard Getz, laid down the terms for ending the ZOA's boycott. "He said Israel was the victim, and that we should approach all stories from this perspective," Bennett says. "And if we did this, they would call off the boycott, and our circula! tion would rise." The delegation also presented Bennett with a scathing report on her brief tenure titled "New Era but the Same Errors: The Philadelphia Inquirer's coverage of the Middle East in the first 60 days of the Amanda Bennett Era." "We concluded that things have been at least as bad, if not worse, than they were under Walker Lundy, the previous editor," Steve Feldman, executive director of the local chapter, said in an interview. "The Philadelphia Inquirer is poisoning hundreds of thousands of people every day. If the surgeon general had newspapers under his bailiwick, they would come with the same warning, that reading the Inquirer could be dangerous to your health." Bennett hardly shares that view. "We spend a ton of time making sure we are as fair, balanced and informative as we possibly can be," she says. "And it is my belief, based on my contacts with the larger community, that very few people in the wider community would agree with Mr. Feldman." Bennett came to the Inquirer from Kentucky's Lexington Herald-Leader, where she confronted a strong Christian community that cared passionately about the issues of homosexuality and abortion. But that experience didn't quite prepare her for the intensity of the advocates on both sides of the Middle East conflict. "Since becoming editor of the Philadelphia Inquirer, I've talked to a lot of my fellow editors around the country," she says, "and I have to say that in major cities across the United States, my colleagues agree that is the most vexing issue that faces them in the sense of an issue that's difficult, time-consuming and important to deal with." As Bennett and others covering the conflict have discovered, they have been plunged into a kind of proxy war for the one raging between Israel and the Palestinians. The American version is fought with e-mails, threatening phone calls, demonstrations and pressure on advertisers, but to the people on the receiving end, the struggle seems as toxic and never-ending as the real thing. "Most of the e-mails are not interested in balanced coverage," says Margaret Coker, who is based in Jerusalem for Cox Newspapers. "They only want coverage that reflects their own political views. When you get one that says, 'You shouldn't call yourself a concerned human being, you're a supporter of mass murder,' and when it comes to using your first name and accusing you of things like that, it takes a strong person for it not to get under your skin." "There's no place in the world that causes as much misery for a journalist," says syndicated columnist Georgie Anne Geyer, who writes frequently about the Middle East. "The Arabs get extremely angry if you're not on their side. The Israelis get enraged if you're not 1,000 percent on their side. You just can't please anyone." Pro-Israeli Web sites, which are better staffed and funded, generate about 10 times as much mail as pro-Arab sites, editors say. They note, too, that the volume waxes and wanes depending on the level of violence. (See "Days of Rage," July/August 2002.) After an event like the March assassination of Sheikh Ahmad Yassin, the founder of Hamas, monitoring sites go into overdrive. HonestReporting.com, a pro-Israeli pressure group, lambasted news outlets for calling the sheikh a spiritual leader rather than a terrorist, while Palestine Media Watch (pmwatch.com) put out an "action call" headed "Don't let U.S. media whitewash Sheikh's assassination." Even when violence tapers off, journalists covering the story can expect hostile mail, often couched in the most personal, vituperative terms. The subject is so sensitive, in fact, that a number of those interviewed did not want to be quoted by name, including one columnist who fumed, "Look, there's no placating these people. It's endless and there's no rationality involved. I want to write about the Middle East, and I will never stop writing about the Middle East, but there's a limit to how much shit you're going to take. And I don't need an extra load of shit" from being quoted. Another journalist, a political cartoonist, said the criticism directed at him is so intense it has started to affect his family. "My kids are teenagers," he says. "Their friends had been to a lecture at a synagogue where they were told I was an anti-Semite. So they came back and told my kids, 'We still like you, but your dad's an anti-Semite.' " A third, a reporter based in Jerusalem, speaks of dreading the nasty e-mails she finds on her computer every day. "I would rather not be quoted for fear of encouraging more complaints, but it really eats at you. We all want to be fair. It's not that I mind hearing from people, but the accusation of unfairness is one I take very seriously. It's definitely one of the more stressful aspects of the job." Occasionally, the personal nature of the attacks has its comic side. The Los Angeles Times' Laura King, who is based in Jerusalem, found that out when she went to Baghdad at the height of the Iraqi war. "I got e-mails saying, 'Oh, I see you are in Baghdad. I hope nothing bad happens to you,' " she says. "The writers were very friendly and expressing concern for my welfare, which is pretty funny in light of the fact that they're extremely critical when I'm in Jerusalem." Reporters and editors say that some of the complaints they receive come from thoughtful individu- als who are genuinely concerned about what they see as bias, and that they take such criticism seriously. And sometimes, they admit, even the most intemperate critic can make a valid point or find a mistake. More often, though, news outlets are subjected to organized campaigns based on half-truths or picayune points. As evidence of National Public Radio's supposed pro-Palestinian sympathies, for example, CAMERA, the Committee for Accurate Middle East Reporting in America, cited one report in which "Palestinians or other Arabs were described by NPR reporters or guest speakers as 'frustrated' 16 times, while Israelis were only said to have such feelings four times." Frequently, these so-called media monitors, who say they are only interested in fairness and balance, will seize on a word or a phrase and leave out the context. Take the case of a Philadelphia Inquirer editorial that called both PLO leader Yassir Arafat and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon "pigheaded and destructive." In a communiqué urging readers to complain to the Inquirer, HonestReporting.com omitted the reference to Arafat to make the editorial sound like a one-sided attack on Sharon. Pro-Israeli sites have no monopoly on distortion or twisted logic. In January, Palestine Media Watch, which advocates for Palestinians, blasted the Los Angeles Times for publishing an opinion piece in which Israeli historian Benny Morris defended the decision to expel Arabs from Israel in 1948. ("Los Angeles Times dignifies call for ethnic cleansing with op-ed space!") In the same release, it took note of an op-ed piece the previous day by a Palestinian academic arguing for a one-state solution. "It is clear now why the Los Angeles Times dared publish that op-ed," the Web site said. "It was part of a one-two package deal, where the editors and the Los Angeles Times clearly hoped to play the two sides of the divide against one another." In other words, you can't win. News organizations sometimes point to the fact that they are criticized by groups on both sides of the Middle East issue as proof of their fairness. But that hardly satisfies the critics. "I know that some people in journalism think that if you upset both sides, you're doing your job," says the Philadelphia ZOA's Steve Feldman. "Well, journalists are not in the business of upsetting people. They should be enlightening people." But how do you mollify critics whose views are so far apart that about the only thing they agree on is that the news media are biased against them? "Reporters in this country have adopted a narrative that is inherently flawed," says Ahmed Bouzid, the founder of Palestine Media Watch. "It stems from the notion that the number one problem is terrorism, that it's Israel that's under threat, and that no progress can be made until the violence stops. We are trying to change that mind-set to make people realize that the basic narrative is that this is an occupation and that it's the Palestinian people who are being humiliated and oppressed." Michael Weinstein, executive director of HonestReporting.com, has a radically different critique. "Generally speaking, the dominant narrative in the American media has been one of presenting Israel as the aggressor in the conflict and the Palestinians as victims," he says. "There's an occasional change after horrific terror attacks, when there tends to be a lot of sympathy for the Israeli people, but that tends to fade after a week or so." Lately, though, Weinstein says, he sees more of what he calls "cycle of violence" coverage. "In this view, you have two people locked in a vicious battle in which neither side is justified. There's no right or wrong. Just two people killing each other and two piles of bodies. This leads to the moral equivalence problem, where a terrorist blowing up a bus in Jerusalem and an Israeli Defense Force strike against terrorist leaders are the same thing." In essence, the two sides are engaged in an effort to shape an overarching narrative in the American media showing that they alone are the victims and that the other side is undeserving of sympathy. When Michael Matza, the Inquirer's Jerusalem correspondent, wrote a story headlined "Palestinians' Remains Fuel a Bitterness," which detailed Israel's practice of not releasing the bodies of suicide bombers, it provoked a hue and cry from readers who felt the piece was too sympathetic to families of the bombers. It didn't matter that Matza had written numerous pieces sympathetic to Israeli victims of suicide attacks. He was denounced as anti-Semitic and labeled a "self-hating Jew," a favorite epithet for Jewish journalists. "If I get up in the morning, put on my pants and get in my car and instead of driving to Tel Aviv, in Israel, I decide to go to Nablus [in the West Bank] and write about some of the stresses and strains the Palestinians are enduring, for some readers, the moment I make that decision, I've made a mistake, no matter what I write," Matza says. "Some readers only want a certain story line. Especially when the story was very bloody, they pretty much wanted a steady diet of Israeli suffering." Editors back home face the same kinds of pressure. "The Middle East may not always be the most important story in the paper, but it's probably the most closely read story from day to day," says Timothy J. McNulty, the Chicago Tribune's assistant managing editor for foreign news. "There is no part of what we print that is not sensitive, whether it is the headline, the cutline, the photo, the story, the approach of the story, who is quoted and so on." Nothing is examined as carefully as language, with both sides fighting for terminology that casts their claim in the best possible light. Pro-Palestinian sites want media outlets to refer to "Israeli colonizers" instead of "Israeli settlers" and to talk about "death squads" instead of "military operations." Meanwhile, Israel's defenders push for the use of "terrorists" instead of "militants," "neighborhoods" instead of "settlements" and "focused interventions" instead of "targeted assassinations." In response, some news organizations go to elaborate lengths to come up with the most neutral-sounding formulations. The Philadelphia Inquirer has even invited in a rabbi and a linguistics professor to help determine what terminology to adopt. "If I were to attend to all the criticism, I could make a full-time job of it," says Inquirer National/Foreign Editor Ned Warwick. "Frankly, at some point, I have to put aside the critics who are howling for my attention so I can focus on what I as a journalist think the right stories are that need to be covered." Not all news organizations are confronted with organized protests over their Middle East coverage, and those that are don't react uniformly. An informal survey of eight major news outlets turned up a wide variety of responses, from strenuous efforts by NPR to mollify its critics to a metaphorical shrug of the shoulders at NBC. "We get e-mails and things like that," says Bill Wheatley, vice president of NBC News, "but it's very unusual for an interest group on one side or the other to try in any serious way to affect our work." NPR, which is under ferocious assault from all sides of the Middle East divide and depends on a combination of private and public funds, does not have the luxury of such nonchalance. "I can assure you that NPR spends lots and lots and lots of time to make sure we're getting the reporting right," says Jay Kernis, senior vice president for programming. "There's an enormous amount of self-examination going on all the time." One admittedly inexact way to see which outlets get the most grief is to look at CAMERA's Web site and count the number of times it issued "action alerts" urging people to protest on behalf of Israel. Last year, for example, the New York Times and the Los Angeles Times were each targeted 18 times, the Washington Post 17 times, Newsweek once and Time not at all. Among radio and TV networks, NPR was cited 18 times, ABC seven, CNN five, NBC and CBS twice, Fox zero. You might conclude that the less frequently an outlet is criticized by CAMERA, the more favorable its treatment of Israel, but except in the case of Fox, you would be wrong. (Fox, which is openly pro-Israel, calls suicide bombers "homicide bombers.") Rather, a variety of other factors come into play. NBC and CBS are seldom criticized in part because they do so little coverage of the Arab-Israeli conflict. (The three major networks have cut back sharply on the amount of foreign news they air, except during major events like the war in Iraq, although ABC does more than its rivals.) NPR, on the other hand, provides extensive coverage of the Arab-Israeli conflict and explores Palestinian grievances in more depth than other broadcast outlets. In addition, it is more vulnerable to outside pressure than commercial operations because of its dependence on public largesse. NPR--like its member stations--gets complaints from the Electronic Intifada, a pro-Palestinian pressure group, but they are dwarfed by pro-Israeli criticism of the network. "NPR is the single most intractable news organization in terms of ordinary accountability," says Andrea Levin, executive director of the Boston-based CAMERA. "Just the ordinary terms of journalism, such as balance and equal opportunity to present opinions are lacking... Unlike other outlets, NPR seems to consider itself above and beyond criticism." Yet NPR goes to great lengths to make sure that its Mideast reports are accurate and balanced. When the network's diplomatic correspondent, Mike Shuster, decided in 2002 to take a look at the historical origins of the conflict, he proceeded carefully. "Initially, after the staff generated a framework for the series, we still weren't sure how to do it. I took it to the foreign editor, the national editor and the producers of 'Morning Edition.' It took several months. Everything is done collaboratively around here because of the sensitivity of the topic and the fire we're under." The result was an award-winning, seven-part series called "The Mideast: A Century of Conflict," examining in unusual depth the conflicting claims surrounding the founding of the state of Israel. Predictably, it ignited a firestorm--one that erupted before the series even aired. On the basis of a press release, CAMERA charged that the lineup of experts was unbalanced in favor of extreme critics of Israel, mirroring "the bias found in NPR's Middle East coverage generally." "This series is the kind of thing NPR should be doing, giving the context, the history," says NPR's Bruce Drake, vice president for news and information. "But when I told a colleague of mine in the news business about what we were planning to do, he said, 'Why are you asking for that kind of heartache?' That was a milestone for me. It made me wonder what kind of world we want, what kind of media we want, if news organizations become afraid to do a series like this because the ground is so treacherous politically." As a result of all the scrutiny, NPR executives spend an inordinate amount of time trying to prove their coverage is fair. NPR's ombudsman, Jeffrey Dvorkin, issues regular reports on the issue, and network President and CEO Kevin Klose puts out a lengthy content assessment on its Middle East reporting every three months--an exercise mainly to help the managers of member station fend off attacks from pressure groups. "I think our reporting is eminently fair," Klose says. "I think both the reporters in the field and the editors here are extremely conscious of the intensity with which people listen, and I think we have set a very high standard for accuracy and balance in reporting on events in the Middle East. Even with the best of intentions, of course, mistakes can happen, and when they do, we re-report and we make a correction." The Philadelphia Inquirer has a different set of problems. One is the location of Palestine Media Watch. It was founded three years ago by Ahmed Bouzid, an Algerian computer programmer who lives in the Philadelphia area and is the site's main contributor. The fact that he hammers the Inquirer much harder than any other American outlet is no doubt due to the fact that it's the first paper he reads each morning. At the same time, Philadelphia is home to a large, active conservative Jewish community, including people like former Pennsylvania Insurance Commissioner Herbert Denenberg and Mort Klein, the fiery head of the national Zionist Organization of America--individuals who have practically made a career out of blasting the Inquirer for its supposed anti-Israel stance. Their views are picked up and amplified by Philadelphia's weekly Jewish Exponent, which has also been heavily critical of the Inquirer. "They are the big dog in town," says Jonathan Tobin, the Exponent's executive editor. "For us, what the Inquirer does on Jewish issues is going to be news. Where they do a really lousy job, we're going to comment on it." Often, the attacks directed at the Inquirer are aimed at specific individuals, such as the paper's Pulitzer-Prize-winning cartoonist, Tony Auth, who has been the target of criticism for his Mideast coverage for at least 20 years. Last summer, while Palestine Media Watch was castigating Auth for drawing more cartoons critical of Yassir Arafat than of Ariel Sharon, Jewish letter- writers and e-mailers were branding him an anti-Semite and a crypto-Nazi. Things reached a fever pitch after he drew a cartoon about the separation barrier being built by the Israelis showing Palestinians enclosed by a chain-link fence shaped like the Star of David. Critics charged it bore a resemblance to a 1930s Nazi recruiting poster. A week later, a delegation representing a half-dozen local Jewish groups came to the Inquirer to express their outrage at a meeting attended by Auth, Amanda Bennett, then-Publisher Robert Hall and others. "At the meeting, I realized that there was not going to be any communication with the most outlandish of these critics. They want propaganda, and nothing but propaganda," says Auth. "It's been an amazing experience. I hate to be called an anti-Semite, and for this charge to be thrown around so glibly is frustrating." While most major American news outlets continue to try to do a straight-down-the-middle job, the intense pressure has left its mark. Last year, CNN staffers were instructed not to "televise or report on statements made by suicide bombers or their families except in extraordinary situations." The directive came amid an outcry over a story on CNN International that included an interview with the mother of a suicide bomber but left out an interview with the parents of the Israeli baby killed in the attack. One newspaper reporter acknowledged in an interview that she has balanced the number of quotes in her dispatches to ward off criticism. Several editors admitted to keeping a rough "victimization" count so they can't be faulted for being more sympathetic to one side than the other. But the effort to achieve balance sometimes leads to bleached, uninformative reportage. To understand the peculiar tensions in Gaza, for example, and why Israel is contemplating a pullout, it's necessary to know that this tiny strip of land is home to 1.2 million Palestinians, while 7,500 Israeli settlers occupy 25 percent of the land and control most of the water resources. Yet the full picture is seldom sketched. (I found one mention of it, in an article by James Bennet of the New York Times, during the two-week spate of coverage over Sharon's initial statement that most of the settlements in Gaza would probably be dismantled.) Sometimes alert readers can see for themselves the results of the ongoing battles over terminology. When Time magazine uses the phrase "targeted eliminations," with the words in quotes, referring to the Israeli practice of picking off Palestinian militants from helicopter gunships, you can tell editors are trying to avoid using the word "assassination," which angers Israeli partisans. The same effort to avoid giving offense seemed at work in a story in the Washington Post in February about the encirclement of Jerusalem ("Israel hems in a Sacred City"). The lead photograph showed 30-foot slabs going up; the caption referred to a "fence," the term preferred by Israelis. Ironically Israeli newspapers are far more outspoken in their criticisms of government policy than U.S. papers. It was Yediot Ahronot, a right-leaning newspaper, that first published an interview with the four former top intelligence chiefs who charged that Sharon's get-tough treatment of the Palestinians was backfiring. Meanwhile Ha'aretz, the leading leftist paper, blasts the government's Palestinian policies on a daily basis. "When it comes to the Israeli-Palestinian question, we are much more open and pushing for a compromise in which Israel will have to give up something than the American press," says Zev Schiff, Ha'aretz's longtime military correspondent. "We are extremely opposed to the settlements, for example." Yet it would be a mistake to conclude that the typical American journalist is biased in favor of Israel. Strongly pro-Israel voices, like those of William Safire of the New York Times and Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post, are prominent on the opinion pages of this country's newspapers, and magazines such as The Weekly Standard and The New Republic embrace similar positions. But the journalists in the trenches--the ones who actually cover the story--agonize over every word, every comma, trying to be fair, knowing they are going to be blasted whatever they write. "This is just a hugely inflammatory story," says the Washington Post's John Ward Anderson. "And people get very, very angry. So you have to have faith in your own ability to play it straight, to be fair and impartial. You want to be sensitive to criticism. On the other hand, you don't want to let the critics alter the way you do your reporting. So many times what these letter-writers want is not fairness. They want the paper to take sides, and I just flatly refuse to be pulled into that." One problem reporters and editors face is the long-running, repetitive nature of the conflict. There is a sense among the journalists I talked to that they have already explained the roots of the problem, that the public has tired of the situation, figuring, as one editor said, "If they want to keep on killing each other, let 'em." "No one wants to keep running the same story again and again," says the Chicago Tribune's McNulty. "The Arab-Israeli story is still a key element and factor in American foreign policy, and it is not something we slight in terms of the number of stories, but we are always looking for fresher stories than 'The Israelis shoot three in Gaza' or 'West Bank settler is killed.' " New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman also sees fatigue with the story setting in. "I don't think the American press is biased," he says. "I've had both sides come up to me and say, 'The press never reports what the Palestinians do to us,' or, 'You never report what the Israeli bulldozers have done to us,' and I tell them, 'It's all been there. I can point to it in the paper. What you're really mad about is that nobody cared. I'm sorry about that, but it's out of my control that the public doesn't care, that they're tired and fed up with the whole story.' That's what neither side gets. They think that after each news broadcast, people are going to vote, and if it goes against them, they're finished. Well, people do have a little box next to the TV, and it's a clicker, and they turn it off." | | | | Alpha | | Posted: Thu Jul 15, 2004 3:57 am Post subject: Israeli workers were warned of 9/11 |

Today Ha'aretz reprints it for the third time the same exact article. This Israeli daily reports the story with the SAME wording. There has been nothing added or subtracted. This article is over a year old. The Ha'aretz Daily in Israel is considered the equivalent of the New York Times in America. Yet no mention of this in the major media in the United States! =========== Haaretz Daily July 15, 2004 Odigo says workers were warned of attack http://www.haaretzdaily.com/hasen/pages/ShArt.jhtml?itemNo=77744&contrassID= By Yuval Dror Odigo, the instant messaging service, says that two of its workers received messages two hours before the Twin Towers attack on September 11 predicting the attack would happen, and the company has been cooperating with Israeli and American law enforcement, including the FBI, in trying to find the original sender of the message predicting the attack. Micha Macover, CEO of the company, said the two workers received the messages and immediately after the terror attack informed the company's management, which immediately contacted the Israeli security services, which brought in the FBI. "I have no idea why the message was sent to these two workers, who don't know the sender. It may just have been someone who was joking and turned out they accidentally got it right. And I don't know if our information was useful in any of the arrests the FBI has made," said Macover. Odigo is a U.S.-based company whose headquarters are in New York, with offices in Herzliya. As an instant messaging service, Odigo users are not limited to sending messages only to people on their "buddy" list, as is the case with ICQ, the other well-known Israeli instant messaging application. Odigo usually zealously protects the privacy of its registered users, said Macover, but in this case the company took the initiative to provide the law enforcement services with the originating Internet Presence address of the message, so the FBI could track down the Internet Service Provider, and the actual sender of the original message. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace is patriotic! (well you know). John has more than given an adequate answer already. There is a new website called http://www.flamesong.co.uk which has a small but well written section on 911. Also Indymedia Portland Oragan have a very good section on 911. It is the best indymedia site in the USA on 911 (generally Indymedia USA and elsewhere takes a conventional view of 911, but Portland is a wonderful exception). It may be the only Indymedia site in the US with a special 911 section/heading, actually. There is an article from Nov 2003 by Jon Phelan that might be particularly interesting. It is conspiracy theory stuff from a radical left perspective. Worth a look. "We are forced to either side with its depiction of "British" conspiracy and "Jewish" innocence, or to distance ourselves from those who put this scenario, such as Jared Israel at Emperor's Clothes, and David Ray Griffi" I don't see why it has to be "either or",. Notice that people that play the Blame Jews game are the ones covering up the photographic evidence that shows the Jews didn't do 9/11. The websites, www.whatreallyhappened.com and www.rense.com, are only two examples. Some people who claim they are writers are obviously being paid by the Bushes to hush up the photographic evidence and blame the Jews. Find out who pays these people. You don't run expensive websites and live in expensive condos without an income. Two Jewish sites, www.cloakanddagger.ca and www.prisonplanet.com, have shown the photographic evidence of 911 repeatedly almost exclusively. Sherman Skolnick has been out if front with the details of 9/11 and he is Jewish. The British website, www.the-movement.com, is way ahead of American websites on outing the photographic evidence of 9/11. A diamond in the rough of 9/11 websites. Frank Levi is webmaster and he may be Jewish. Who cares? Brilliant man. American 911 websites will never reply to corrections on their photographic evidence. Most don't even provide an email address. Talk about major media hiding the photographic evidence that showed Bush did 9/11 many websites are the same way. Are they being paid by the Bushes? False opposition like www.whatreallyhappened.com? How many times do we have to hear the story of Israelis celebrating 9/11 across the River? This has been shown to be bogus. Ditto for the US Liberty story which was a mistake. Never do these sites or writers? explain the Israeli side of the story on the Middle East. In fact, I don't know what it is! I am capable of placing blame where I see it. Nothing in the photographic evidence of 911 shows Jews did it. The Neocons are patsies. They think they are behind the Iraq War but the Bushes are using them. It was OPERATION NORTHWOODS 2001. What about Odigo, the Israeli instant messaging company, two of whose workers received messages two hours before the Twin Towers attack on September 11 predicting the attack would happen? I criticise everyone who uses Jared Israel's material without a caveat on what he leaves out. Jared Israel provides useful material, but with an editorial spin that leaves out Israeli/Jewish/Mossad involvement. He's been doing this consistently, since the first week after 9/11, when I saw him arguing thus on a forum in Russia (at Pravda, I think). (6) US Christian Right's grip on Middle East policy, by Stephen Zunes - "blames the British" This article makes the "British" the actors, and Jews and Christians their dupes. It omits the long-term Jewish manipulation of Protestant millenialism to orient it to Israel - PGM Date: Wed, 7 Jul 2004 20:01:31 -0400 From: "David Chiang" <chiang.d@worldnet.att.net> US Christian Right's grip on Middle East policy By Stephen Zunes http://www.atimes.com/atimes/Middle_East/FG08Ak01.html In recent years, a politicized and right-wing Protestant fundamentalist movement has emerged as a major factor in US support for the policies of the rightist Likud government in Israel. To understand this influence, it is important to recognize that the rise of the religious right as a political force in the United States is a relatively recent phenomenon that emerged as part of a calculated strategy by leading right-wingers in the Republican Party who - while not fundamentalist Christians themselves - recognized the need to enlist the support of this key segment of the US population in order to achieve political power. ... As a result of renewed fundamentalist interest in Israel and in recognition of the movement's political influence, American Jews are less reluctant to team up with the Christian Right. Fundamentalist leader Gary Bauer, for example, now receives frequent invitations to address mainstream Jewish organizations, which would have been hesitant toward the movement prior to the Bush presidency. This is partly a phenomenon of demographics: Jews constitute only 3% of the US population, and barely half of them support the current Israeli government. The Israelis also recognize the Christian Right's political clout. Since 2001, Bauer has met with several Israeli cabinet members and with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. Former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu noted, "We have no greater friends and allies" than right-wing American Christians. ... (7) Dennis Ross, former U.S. envoy for 'peace process' now works for Jewish Agency and Israel Date: Thu, 8 Jul 2004 06:54:06 -0400 From: "MER - Mid-East Realities - MiddleEast.Org" <MERL@middleeast.org> Dennis Ross, former U.S. envoy for 'peace process' now works for Jewish Agency and Israel. Mid-East Realities - MER - www.MiddleEast.Org - 7 July 2004: Remember now, this is the very same 'Ambassador' Dennis Ross whom the 'even-handed' Americans insisted be the top 'peace process negotiator' for a decade or so between Israel and the Palestinians. Remember as well that the much flaunted and constantly lied about 'peace process' Ross directed erupted in recent years -- as MER had predicted all along by the way -- into the worst mayhem and bloodshed ever. It also has brought worse than apartheid conditions to the Palestinian people and a great escalation in hatred and what the Americans love to simply call 'terrorism' regardless of causes, distinctions, places, and realities. And now, after immediately moving from the U.S. government payroll to that of Washington's powerful Israeli-jewish lobby -- with which he was formerly associated by the way -- Ross has gone to work directly for the Jewish Agency and the Israelis urging still more Jews worldwide to 'return to the promised land' and settle in 'the Jewish state'. The Jewish Agency, by the way, has existed since before the establishment of the Israeli state with the main goal of bringing Jews from whereever they might be to settle in what the whole world then called "Palestine"; and whether by design or result to displace the Arab Palestinian people who were living there. Historical responsibility needs to be pointed in the right direction now, especially in view of what has happened throughout the Middle East considerably as a result of U.S. and Israeli policies. There is no doubt, regardless of how much public officials deny it, that these policies have considerably fueled the still growing hatreds which have now spread throughout much of the world for the U.S., Israel, and yes, sad to say, for "the Jews". The tremendous propaganda machine that so hyped Ross and his nearly all Jewish-Zionist "negotiating team" has grown even bolder and more outrageously arrogant and deceitful in recent years. It has as well tragically succeeded for the time being at least in a near-total takeover of 'acceptible' commentary and discourse in official Washington. The American media will not, so others beyond American shores should start investigating much more deeply, reporting much more honestly, and exposing much more courageously all the lies and duplicities that are in fact the crucial backdrop to understanding today's historical conflagrations. For unless a major change in course comes about soon a catastrophic descent over a historical Niagara Falls may well lie ahead. New institute plans Jewish future JESSICA STEINBERG Jewish Telegraphic Agency http://www.jewishaz.com/jewishnews/020517/new.shtml JERUSALEM - Dennis Ross, who served as Middle East envoy for the Clinton administration, is now handling an entirely different role with a think tank created by the Jewish Agency for Israel. Ross was front and center when the Policy Planning Institute for the Jewish People opened its doors May 14 in Jerusalem. The institute "will examine the challenges, threats, needs and opportunities" confronting Jews worldwide, the Jewish Agency said. It also will "deal with formulating policy for the Jewish people by promoting professional studies" and fostering "long-term strategic thinking." According to Ross, the newly appointed chairman of the institute's board of directors and director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, "We need to be thinking about the problems emerging down the road." A group that includes Ross, Jewish Agency Chairman Sallai Meridor and Hebrew University political science professor Yehezkel Dror has been planning the institute for more than a year. The group of 15 to 20 people - half from Israel, the rest from around the world - first gathered several times to talk about major issues facing the Jewish people, including Israel's changing demographics and issues of Jewish identity. The institute was first discussed before the Palestinian intifada began in September 2000. At the time, Jewish communal leaders were concerned with Israel's lack of long-term tools to plan strategically for the future. "We're a nation that excels in responding minute to minute," Meridor said. "But we need to also think and plan for the future." What emerged from the deliberations was a collective decision to create the institute, which will be funded with $1 million annually from the Jewish Agency, with additional funds expected from Jewish philanthropists. The think tank is being structured as a public, not-for-profit company. Issues expected to be researched first include Israel's demography, as the Arab sector grows faster than the Jewish sector; the cohesion of the Jewish people; collective action and its financing; information technology in Jewish affairs; and the Jewish nation's global standing. Ross said he decided to work for the institute because it was the least he could do "as a member of the Jewish people." "I wouldn't do it if I didn't think it was important," he said. "I think it will prove itself.'' - Jewish News of Greater Phoenix - May 17, 2002/Sivan 6, 5762, Vol. 54, No.35 (8) Israeli interrogators in Iraq - An exclusive report [Jane's] Date: Thu, 8 Jul 2004 13:08:00 +0100 From: "Rowan Berkeley" <rowan_berkeley@yahoo.co.uk> http://www.janes.com/security/international_security/news/fr/fr040707_1_n.shtml At least one aspect of the occupation of Iraq was well planned by Washington. The USA needed help conducting mass interrogations of Arabic-speaking detainees. Foreign Report can now reveal that, to make up for this shortfall, the USA employed Israeli security service (Shin Bet) experts to help their US counterparts 'break' their captives. The USA could have approached other friendly regimes in the Middle East, such as Egypt or Jordan, which have vast experience interrogating Muslim fundamentalists. The Israelis may be brilliant linguists, but they cannot match Arabs speaking their own language. But there is a significant difference between the Egyptian and Jordanian interrogation techniques and those of the Israelis. For the Egyptian and Jordanian secret services, physical torture is an essential part of interrogation and a key element in breaking the prisoner's will and making them co-operative. In the past, Shin Bet would use torture when it interrogated prisoners. But 20 years ago, an Israeli government committee investigated the security service's practices and the use of torture was subsequently banned, forcing Shin Bet to adopt a variety of techniques that did not cause physical damage. These new methods are much more palatable to US sensibilities. They also brought faster and more convincing results. Foreign Report has learnt that top Shin Bet interrogation experts were sent to Iraq to help with the most difficult interrogations, such as the captured heads of the Iraqi intelligence - and perhaps with former president Saddam Hussein. US sources say that in spite of the incidences of abuse in Abu Ghraib prison, such events are not representative of the sophisticated methods that Shin Bet used in Iraq. Most of the Shin Bet interrogators are of Ashkenazim (European) origin who study the Arabic language only when they are in their twenties after joining the security service. Before each interrogation a psychologist who has studied in depth the mental profile of the prisoner is consulted. The interrogator will also read intelligence reports about their charge. ... The ADL has been instrumental in bringing Israeli police officers to the US for training sessions to share with their American counterparts their experience in fighting terror. The Israeli officers have lectured extensively on such topics as bomb disposal, hostage negotiations and the use of civil guard in the war on terror. "Jewish history is full of examples of where the law enforcement included everyone except from the Jewish people. And for us in the US to develop a relationship with an institution which understands and is sensitive to discrimination and bigotry is a very special new experience in Jewish history," Abraham Foxman, the ADL's national director, said in a speech in the presence of the top police brass. (10) Jon Rappoport - some of the 9/11 strategists were Mossad or ex-Mossad Date: Thu, 8 Jul 2004 11:28:38 -0700 From: "Eileen Pressler" <epress@shuswap.net> THE 'ISRAELI VECTOR' ON 9/11 JON RAPPOPORT http://www.nomorefakenews.com JULY 8, 2004. Since 9/11, a great deal of information and speculation have been launched on the Internet about possible Israeli connections to the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Several of my own sources have told me that, on an operational level, a few of the 9/11 strategists were Mossad or ex-Mossad people. Of course, this is a very hot-button issue. There are those who would view every musing on this subject as a direct anti-Semitic assault on all Jews everywhere. I can only speak for myself: you don't need to be a genius to differentiate and separate the Israeli government from some part of that government, the Mossad from some part of the Mossad, all Zionists from certain Zionists. And you don't need to have an IQ in the 200 range to know that any of these entities is not The People of Israel. Is not "Jews everywhere." Given these basic kindergarten points, one can go on to look at the issue itself: did some faction in Israel produce, or help produce, or try to cover up fore/after-knowledge of, 9/11? Below, I have re-printed an overview (November 2, 2003) written by Neil Mackay in the online Sunday Herald, a newspaper based in Scotland. I don't claim his account is the most complete analysis of the situation. But he asks some of the right questions, and he provides some information. One point not raised by Mackay: we still do not have evidence presented to the public that shows there really were 19 Arab hijackers on those 9/11 planes. We certainly have no evidence that the hijackers named by the FBI (some of the suicide hijackers appear to be alive now) could have gained the necessary skills to execute the 9/11 aerial maneuvers after, at best, a cursory education in piloting small craft at US private flight schools. Therefore, if Israeli intelligence operatives were tracking Arabs learning how to fly small planes in Florida before 9/11, were these Israeli operatives really gathering useful information about 9/11 prior to 9/11?? Or, perhaps, was this an Israeli intell op that ultimately functioned as a diversion from the truth? It is a standard practice, in an intell op that is funded well, to leave behind false trails. If this was the case here, who was being protected by the intell debris of that false trail? Were these Israeli intell operatives protecting some of their own who actually participated in the strategic planning for 9/11? Another related issue: to what degree, prior to 9/11, did the US intelligence community knowingly rely on Israeli agents living in the US to provide ongoing data---perhaps for years---on potential Middle East terror cells located in the US? Here I would be talking about standard practice, as in, "Hey, the Israelis are the best at this. They speak the necessary languages. They have the deepest files on these guys. Let's allow them to spy freely inside the US and report, on a regular basis, back to us (CIA, FBI). In fact, we can't do this kind of work well. We stink at it. So let's leave it to the Mossad. Based on their reports, we can claim we ourselves found out all sorts of stuff. We can take credit. We can look good." You can imagine what disasters that policy could lead to. I believe this is one of the many issues left untouched, like a hot potato, by the 9/11 commission. For example, suppose most or all of the data fed into the US intell machine ABOUT WHO CRASHED THE PLANES ON 9/11 came from Israeli intell sources? Suppose that's how the names of the hijackers were unearthed so quickly? In that case, the US intelligence community laid itself open to a conduit that could forward all sorts of lies and cover stories and diversions down its throat. In that case, the US intelligence community would have a very good reason (among other reasons) for obscuring any type of investigation into Israeli intell people located in the US. Is this one of the reasons the fired FBI translator, Sibel Edmonds, is under a gag order? Does she know, among other things, how the US intelligence apparatus uses data passed along by Israeli intelligence? Are there other US intell employees waiting in the wings who could provide an encyclopedia on this subject? In months and years past, I wrote much on these pages about the evolution of what I call the GLOBAL INTELLIGENCE CARTEL. This is an organically evolving group composed of intell people from many nations, corporations, and private organizations that have been gaining the awareness that they have an agenda SEPARATE from governments. The intelligence cartel comes to view its mission in its own terms---and this cartel, in turn, at a higher level, can be USED by more secretive groups that are seeking the ultimate collapse of nations and the de facto subsuming of nations under a globalist structure---the rule of the many by the few. 9/11 was a watershed moment in that march toward this ultimate goal. The present official cover story about 9/11 and who directed 9/11 IS an intell op. Here is the Mackay article: Five Israelis were seen filming as jet liners ploughed into the Twin Towers on September 11, 2001 ... Were they part of a massive spy ring which shadowed the 9/11 hijackers and knew that al-Qaeda planned a devastating terrorist attack on the USA? Neil Mackay investigates Sunday Herald, Scotland - 02 November 2003 http://ww1.sundayherald.com/37707 THERE was ruin and terror in Manhattan, but, over the Hudson River in New Jersey, a handful of men were dancing. As the World Trade Centre burned and crumpled, the five men celebrated and filmed the worst atrocity ever committed on American soil as it played out before their eyes. Who do you think they were? Palestinians? Saudis? Iraqis, even? Al-Qaeda, surely? Wrong on all counts. They were Israelis – and at least two of them were Israeli intelligence agents, working for Mossad, the equivalent of MI6 or the CIA. Their discovery and arrest that morning is a matter of indisputable fact. To those who have investigated just what the Israelis were up to that day, the case raises one dreadful possibility: that Israeli intelligence had been shadowing the al-Qaeda hijackers as they moved from the Middle East through Europe and into America where they trained as pilots and prepared to suicide-bomb the symbolic heart of the United States. And the motive? To bind America in blood and mutual suffering to the Israeli cause. After the attacks on New York and Washington, the former Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, was asked what the terrorist strikes would mean for US-Israeli relations. He said: "It's very good." Then he corrected himself, adding: "Well, it's not good, but it will generate immediate sympathy [for Israel from Americans]." If Israel's closest ally felt the collective pain of mass civilian deaths at the hands of terrorists, then Israel would have an unbreakable bond with the world's only hyperpower and an effective free hand in dealing with the Palestinian terrorists who had been murdering its innocent civilians as the second intifada dragged on throughout 2001. It's not surprising that the New Jersey housewife who first spotted the five Israelis and their white van wants to preserve her anonymity. She's insisted that she only be identified as Maria. A neighbour in her apartment building had called her just after the first strike on the Twin Towers. Maria grabbed a pair of binoculars and, like millions across the world, she watched the horror of the day unfold. As she gazed at the burning towers, she noticed a group of men kneeling on the roof of a white van in her parking lot. Here's her recollection: "They seemed to be taking a movie. They were like happy, you know ... they didn't look shocked to me. I thought it was strange." Maria jotted down the van's registration and called the police. The FBI was alerted and soon there was a statewide all points bulletin put out for the apprehension of the van and its occupants. The cops traced the number, establishing that it belonged to a company called Urban Moving. Police Chief John Schmidig said: "We got an alert to be on the lookout for a white Chevrolet van with New Jersey registration and writing on the side. Three individuals were seen celebrating in Liberty State Park after the impact. They said three people were jumping up and down." By 4pm on the afternoon of September 11, the van was spotted near New Jersey's Giants stadium. A squad car pulled it over and inside were five men in their 20s. They were hustled out of the car with guns levelled at their heads and handcuffed. In the car was $4700 in cash, a couple of foreign passports and a pair of box cutters – the concealed Stanley Knife-type blades used by the 19 hijackers who'd flown jetliners into the World Trade Centre and Pentagon just hours before. There were also fresh pictures of the men standing with the smouldering wreckage of the Twin Towers in the background. One image showed a hand flicking a lighter in front of the devastated buildings, like a fan at a pop concert. The driver of the van then told the arresting officers: "We are Israeli. We are not your problem. Your problems are our problems. The Palestinians are the problem." His name was Sivan Kurzberg. The other four passengers were Kurzberg's brother Paul, Yaron Shmuel, Oded Ellner and Omer Marmari. The men were dragged off to prison and transferred out of the custody of the FBI's Criminal Division and into the hands of their Foreign Counterintelligence Section – the bureau's anti-espionage squad. A warrant was issued for a search of the Urban Moving premises in Weehawken in New Jersey. Boxes of papers and computers were removed. The FBI questioned the firm's Israeli owner, Dominik Otto Suter, but when agents returned to re-interview him a few days later, he was gone. An employee of Urban Moving said his co-workers had laughed about the Manhattan attacks the day they happened. "I was in tears," the man said. "These guys were joking and that bothered me. These guys were like, ‘Now America knows what we go through.'" Vince Cannistraro, former chief of operations for counter-terrorism with the CIA, says the red flag went up among investigators when it was discovered that some of the Israelis' names were found in a search of the national intelligence database. Cannistraro says many in the US intelligence community believed that some of the Israelis were working for Mossad and there was speculation over whether Urban Moving had been "set up or exploited for the purpose of launching an intelligence operation against radical Islamists". This makes it clear that there was no suggestion whatsoever from within American intelligence that the Israelis were colluding with the 9/11 hijackers – simply that the possibility remains that they knew the attacks were going to happen, but effectively did nothing to help stop them. After the owner vanished, the offices of Urban Moving looked as if they'd been closed down in a big hurry. Mobile phones were littered about, the office phones were still connected and the property of at least a dozen clients were stacked up in the warehouse. The owner had cleared out his family home in New Jersey and returned to Israel. Two weeks after their arrest, the Israelis were still in detention, held on immigration charges. Then a judge ruled that they should be deported. But the CIA scuppered the deal and the five remained in custody for another two months. Some went into solitary confinement, all underwent two polygraph tests and at least one underwent up to seven lie detector sessions before they were eventually deported at the end of November 2001. Paul Kurzberg refused to take a lie detector test for 10 weeks, but then failed it. His lawyer said he was reluctant to take the test as he had once worked for Israeli intelligence in another country. Nevertheless, their lawyer, Ram Horvitz, dismissed the allegations as "stupid and ridiculous". Yet US government sources still maintained that the Israelis were collecting information on the fundraising activities of groups like Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Mark Regev, of the Israeli embassy in Washington, would have none of that and he said the allegations were "simply false". The men themselves claimed they'd read about the World Trade Centre attacks on the internet, couldn't see it from their office and went to the parking lot for a better view. Their lawyers and the embassy say their ghoulish and sinister celebrations as the Twin Towers blazed and thousands died were due to youthful foolishness. The respected New York Jewish newspaper, The Forward, reported in March 2002, however, that it had received a briefing on the case of the five Israelis from a US official who was regularly updated by law enforcement agencies. This is what he told The Forward: "The assessment was that Urban Moving Systems was a front for the Mossad and operatives employed by it." He added that "the conclusion of the FBI was that they were spying on local Arabs", but the men were released because they "did not know anything about 9/11". Back in Israel, several of the men discussed what happened on an Israeli talk show. One of them made this remarkable comment: "The fact of the matter is we are coming from a country that experiences terror daily. Our purpose was to document the event." But how can you document an event unless you know it is going to happen? We are now deep in conspiracy theory territory. But there is more than a little circumstantial evidence to show that Mossad – whose motto is "By way of deception, thou shalt do war" – was spying on Arab extremists in the USA and may have known that September 11 was in the offing, yet decided to withhold vital information from their American counterparts which could have prevented the terror attacks. Following September 11, 2001, more than 60 Israelis were taken into custody under the Patriot Act and immigration laws. One highly placed investigator told Carl Cameron of Fox News that there were "tie-ins" between the Israelis and September 11; the hint was clearly that they'd gathered intelligence on the planned attacks but kept it to themselves. The Fox News source refused to give details, saying: "Evidence linking these Israelis to 9/11 is classified. I cannot tell you about evidence that has been gathered. It's classified information." Fox News is not noted for its condemnation of Israel; it's a ruggedly patriotic news channel owned by Rupert Murdoch and was President Bush's main cheerleader in the war on terror and the invasion of Iraq. Another group of around 140 Israelis were detained prior to September 11, 2001, in the USA as part of a widespread investigation into a suspected espionage ring run by Israel inside the USA. Government documents refer to the spy ring as an "organised intelligence-gathering operation" designed to "penetrate government facilities". Most of those arrested had served in the Israeli armed forces – but military service is compulsory in Israel. Nevertheless, a number had an intelligence background. The first glimmerings of an Israeli spying exercise in the USA came to light in spring 2001, when the FBI sent a warning to other federal agencies alerting them to be wary of visitors calling themselves "Israeli art students" and attempting to bypass security at federal buildings in order to sell paintings. A Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) report suggested the Israeli calls "may well be an organised intelligence-gathering activity". Law enforcement documents say that the Israelis "targeted and penetrated military bases" as well as the DEA, FBI and dozens of government facilities, including secret offices and the unlisted private homes of law enforcement and intelligence personnel. A number of Israelis questioned by the authorities said they were students from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, but Pnina Calpen, a spokeswoman for the Israeli school, did not recognise the names of any Israelis mentioned as studying there in the past 10 years. A federal report into the so-called art students said many had served in intelligence and electronic signal intercept units during their military service. According to a 61-page report, drafted after an investigation by the DEA and the US immigration service, the Israelis were organised into cells of four to six people. The significance of what the Israelis were doing didn't emerge until after September 11, 2001, when a report by a French intelligence agency noted "according to the FBI, Arab terrorists and suspected terror cells lived in Phoenix, Arizona, as well as in Miami and Hollywood, Florida, from December 2000 to April 2001 in direct proximity to the Israeli spy cells". The report contended that Mossad agents were spying on Mohammed Atta and Marwan al-Shehi, two of leaders of the 9/11 hijack teams. The pair had settled in Hollywood, Florida, along with three other hijackers, after leaving Hamburg – where another Mossad team was operating close by. Hollywood in Florida is a town of just 25,000 souls. The French intelligence report says the leader of the Mossad cell in Florida rented apartments "right near the apartment of Atta and al-Shehi". More than a third of the Israeli "art students" claimed residence in Florida. Two other Israelis connected to the art ring showed up in Fort Lauderdale. At one time, eight of the hijackers lived just north of the town. Put together, the facts do appear to indicate that Israel knew that 9/11, or at least a large-scale terror attack, was about to take place on American soil, but did nothing to warn the USA. But that's not quite true. In August 2001, the Israelis handed over a list of terrorist suspects – on it were the names of four of the September 11 hijackers. Significantly, however, the warning said the terrorists were planning an attack "outside the United States". The Israeli embassy in Washington has dismissed claims about the spying ring as "simply untrue". The same denials have been issued repeatedly by the five Israelis seen high-fiving each other as the World Trade Centre burned in front of them. Their lawyer, Ram Horwitz, insisted his clients were not intelligence officers. Irit Stoffer, the Israeli foreign minister, said the allegations were "completely untrue". She said the men were arrested because of "visa violations", adding: "The FBI investigated those cases because of 9/11." Jim Margolin, an FBI spokesman in New York, implied that the public would never know the truth, saying: "If we found evidence of unauthorised intelligence operations that would be classified material." Yet, Israel has long been known, according to US administration sources, for "conducting the most aggressive espionage operations against the US of any US ally". Seventeen years ago, Jonathan Pollard, a civilian working for the American Navy, was jailed for life for passing secrets to Israel. At first, Israel claimed Pollard was part of a rogue operation, but the government later took responsibility for his work. It has always been a long-accepted agreement among allies – such as Britain and America or America and Israel – that neither country will jail a "friendly spy" nor shame the allied country for espionage. Chip Berlet, a senior analyst at Boston's Political Research Associates and an expert in intelligence, says: "It's a backdoor agreement between allies that says that if one of your spies gets caught and didn't do too much harm, he goes home. It goes on all the time. The official reason is always visa violation." What we are left with, then, is fact sullied by innuendo. Certainly, it seems, Israel was spying within the borders of the United States and it is equally certain that the targets were Islamic extremists probably linked to September 11. But did Israel know in advance that the Twin Towers would be hit and the world plunged into a war without end; a war which would give Israel the power to strike its enemies almost without limit? That's a conspiracy theory too far, perhaps. But the unpleasant feeling that, in this age of spin and secrets, we do not know the full and unadulterated truth won't go away. Maybe we can guess, but it's for the history books to discover and decide. End of Mackay article. {end} COMMENT (Peter M) Now consider: if 911 was a "British" operation, the CIA had to be in on it. | IS ISRAEL’S MOSSAD BEHIND TERRORISM IN AMERICA? *PIC* Posted By: ChristopherBollyn Date: Friday, 28 May 2004, 3:01 p.m. IS ISRAEL’S MOSSAD BEHIND TERRORISM IS AMERICA? THE ISRAELI MILITARY’S NETWORK OF “MOVERS” IS A GLARING BLIND SPOT IN THE “WAR ON TERROR” “These guys aren't terrorists; they belong to the Israeli military.” - Nissan Giat, an Israeli flight instructor based in Miami, commenting on fellow Israeli soldiers arrested after fleeing from the local sheriff near critical nuclear fuel processing plants in Erwin, Tennessee. By Christopher Bollyn American Free Press The “war on terror” has a glaring blind spot that puts the security of the United States at grave risk. While innocent Iraqis are tortured in their homeland, suspicious criminal activity by Israeli military agents near sensitive nuclear sites in the United States is neither investigated – nor reported. The most damning criticism of the “war on terror” is that it actually creates more terror. Some critics would argue that the increase in terror and instability is intentional – part of a larger geopolitical plan to control the region and its valuable mineral resources. In the logic of Anglo-American and Zionist policy makers, the chaos, terrorism and insecurity in the Middle East, which is primarily caused by foreign military occupation, provides a pretext for the presence of occupation forces for the foreseeable future, something global planners have long desired. The U.S.-led occupations of Afghanistan and Iraq resemble the Israeli occupation of Palestine. As Israel’s brutal aggression against Palestinians inevitably produces terror attacks in Israel, the U.S. occupation creates fertile ground for the growth of “anti-American” and “anti-democratic” terrorism. This, in turn, provides an excuse for the continued presence of thousands of U.S. troops in Iraq – and throughout the region. The recent publication of photographs of Iraqi detainees being abused and tortured by U.S. military personnel only fuels hatred for the occupation across the Middle East. This is well understood and appreciated by the “neo-conservative” Zionist policy makers in Washington, London, New York, and Tel Aviv. Today, life in Iraq is actually more dangerous and less secure than it was under the reign of Saddam Hussein. Scarcely a day goes by in Iraq in which lives of innocent Iraqis and U.S. service personnel are not destroyed by terror bombs. Meanwhile, on the domestic front, the “war on terror” has changed the face of America. Glaring double standards and blind spots, however, leave the nation vulnerable and raise serious questions about the true goals of the “war on terror.” For example, while wealthy, law abiding European visitors are subjected to extreme and embarrassing scrutiny, the border with Mexico remains as unchecked and porous as ever. Thousands of impoverished and uneducated immigrants cross the southern border illegally every month. On the other hand, the U.S. administration recently applied punitive sanctions against Syria because it said Damascus was not doing enough to prevent illegal border crossings into Iraq. It would seem the U.S. government is more concerned about protecting the borders of Iraq than those of the United States. Another gaping hole in the domestic “war on terror” was revealed by the bizarre indifference of federal law enforcement to recent criminal activity by Israeli military personnel in the proximity of a number of critical U.S. nuclear facilities. While federal law enforcement authorities warn of a major terrorist attack in the United States, Israeli criminal activity in extremely sensitive areas is allowed to pass unchecked – and uninvestigated. Israeli military personnel run rampant across the United States violating the law with impunity. Since 9/11 there have been dozens of criminal Israeli teams posing as “movers” (and “art students”) apprehended by local authorities only to be turned over to federal immigration officials and quickly released or deported. These Israeli military teams, often arrested in the vicinity of sensitive military or nuclear sites, represent a glaring blind spot in the “war on terror.” Two recent incidents in the southeastern United States reveal how Israeli military personnel are allowed to violate U.S. laws and operate within the country in ways which would never be tolerated of citizens from any other nation. The first incident occurred in the proximity of several nuclear facilities in Erwin, Tennessee, including the Nuclear Fuel Services plant. Nuclear Fuel Services is a company that provides fuel for nuclear submarines and processes spent nuclear materials. This is precisely the kind of radioactive material that is used in a so-called “dirty bomb,” which senior law enforcement officials are warning that terrorists intend to use in the United States. But who are these terrorists? Are Israeli intelligence agents planning another terrorist attack in the United States? A recent Israeli incident occurred on Saturday afternoon, May 8, when Unicoi County (Tenn.) Sheriff Kent Harris spotted a rental truck speeding on former U.S. Highway 23, a lightly traveled highway near the North Carolina state line. Two young Israeli men in the rented moving truck evaded Harris in a high speed chase for three miles. During the chase the Israelis threw a bottle containing a mysterious fluid from the truck, an act they later denied. The vial contained an unknown substance, which appeared to be some kind of accelerant because it became warm when it was shaken, according to Harris. The purpose of the mysterious fluid has not yet been explained. “They were driving recklessly and at a high rate of speed down an old highway that nobody uses anymore,” Harris told independent journalist Dan Hopsicker. “I was really concerned because the driver would not stop after I flashed my headlights for nearly three miles. He was weaving back and forth, and I was wondering what a large truck was doing on a two-lane highway instead of the much-faster I-26 interstate.” “They ignored my blue lights for two and one half miles and they were traveling 20 miles an hour over posted speed limits,” the sheriff said. Asked if it was possible that the Israelis were unaware they were being pursued, the sheriff said: “Oh no, he had to see me. The siren was going…. I could see him in the mirror looking back at me.” Two young Israelis, Shmuel Dahan and Almaliach Naor were taken into custody. In the wallet of 23-year old Dahan, an Israeli soldier based in Miami Beach, police discovered a “Learn to Fly in Florida” business card. Israeli men serve in the military until age 55. “I got a sick feeling when I saw it,” Harris told the Associated Press, expressing concern about the proximity of the nearby Nuclear Fuel Services plant. “It’s the nation's sole provider of fuel for the Navy's nuclear subs,” he said. “They were just three miles from where, if you get off at exit 15, off I-26, you’re just a half-mile from all the nuclear plants,” he said. “There’s Nuclear Fuel Services, which is a privately-owned company. Studdwick, another privately-owned company. And they’re building a third one now.” The Israelis’ truck tested positive for drugs, Hopsicker reported. “While the FBI dismissed the finding as a ‘false positive,’” Hopsicker wrote, “local law enforcement regards the test as highly accurate.” Harris contacted the FBI, the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and other local authorities to investigate the situation. The sheriff's investigation, halted by the involvement of the FBI, revealed that the Israelis had just visited a remote storage facility owned by an unlisted “Salvatore Annone” of New Jersey, who Hopsicker reported, recently bought the Mars Hill, North Carolina storage company. “The truck,” according to the AP, “was rented from a Ryder office in Mars Hills, N.C., and was being held in the county garage pending an FBI investigation, officials said.” The case is full of “anomalies,” Hopsicker wrote. Shmuel Dahan, for example, listed his address in swanky Miami Beach, and has more than $12,000 in his personal bank account. “That sort of caught my attention,” said the sheriff. “We're not overreacting,” Harris said. “We have a responsibility to protect the citizens of Unicoi County and that's what I'm going to do at any cost. I'd rather overreact, if that's what you call it, than be sorry later.” The “Learn to Fly in Florida” business card belongs to another Israeli named Nissan Giat. Giat is an “Israeli military veteran,” according to Hopsicker, and a free-lance flight instructor in the Miami area, working out of the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport. Asked about Dahan and Naor, Giat told Hopsicker: “These guys aren't terrorists; they belong to the Israeli military.” The two Israeli soldiers, however, were carrying false identification cards. Dahan had a false Florida driver’s license and Naor had a fake identification card. Dahan was charged with reckless driving, littering, false identification and evading arrest. Naor was charged with false identification and evading arrest. The truck, rented from Ryder, was reportedly held for an FBI investigation, according to officials. Police said the Israelis were being investigated by the FBI. Asked by American Free Press about the FBI’s role in the investigation, Special Agent Gary Kidder of the Knoxville field office said: “Your premise is all wrong. An FBI investigation was never opened. The case was never turned over to the FBI.” The only charges brought against the two Israelis, Kidder said, were immigration charges. The two were then quickly released from government custody after a judge in Erwin, (Tenn.) suspended a 30-day sentence and turned them over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), a bureau within the Department of Homeland Security. Immigration officials had said Dahan and Naor would be subject to immediate deportation, yet despite convictions for evading arrest and working illegally on tourist visas, the Israelis were soon released and back at Summit Moving Van Lines in Miami, according to Hopsicker. The spokesmen at the Washington office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement were unable to answer any questions by press time about the status of these two Israelis. A second team of Israeli military agents posing as “movers” tried to enter the U.S. Naval Submarine Base at Kings Bay, Georgia on May 21. When an inspection of their rented moving truck revealed evidence of explosives, the base, home to 8 Trident submarines, was shut down for more than three hours, according to base spokesman Ed Buczek. When the two Israeli soldiers posing as movers tried to access the base without proper identification an inspection team was called out to check their rental truck. Dogs trained to detect explosives and drugs “hit on something in the cab of the truck,” Buczek told AFP. The evidence of “potential explosives” led to an immediate lockdown of the base and the St. Mary’s police department closed off the area around the base and called in a bomb squad. “Guards closed access to the base and notified the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service,” Buczek said. Buczek said the two were driving a Budget rental truck and were working for an Atlanta-based moving company called Advantage. Advantage Moving and Storage in Norcross, Georgia was blocking calls from unknown callers on May 26. Like hundreds of other “moving companies” in the United States, Advantage is probably Israeli-owned and operated. It was a “textbook scenario” reaction to an obvious security threat to the base and national security, Buczek said. “We saw something wasn’t right.” When the Israeli intruders were turned over to federal officials, however, their criminal activity was handled with what can only be described as indifference. The fact that Israeli military agents operate moving companies across the United States is a security problem, which apparently does not concern the Department of Homeland Security. Israel’s military intelligence agency, Mossad, has a network of transportation and logistics companies that spans the United States. Across the river from the site of the World Trade Center stands a massive 15-story windowless building, the Jersey City headquarters of Moishe’s Moving and Storage. American Free Press interviewed several of the young Israeli men who work at Moishe’s and learned that they are often recruited in Israel and work in the United States illegally. The “war on terror” has apparently not affected Moishe’s illegal practices, or any of the other Israeli-owned moving companies across America. Israeli-owned “moving companies” have been involved in numerous cases of criminal activity across the country. One notable case was a company based in Weehawken, New Jersey, which was found to be an Israeli intelligence operation with prior knowledge of the terror attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. Four of its agents were detained in the immediate aftermath of 9/11 after being caught filming and apparently celebrating the terror attacks on the World Trade Center. After being held and refusing to cooperate with government investigators the four were turned over to immigration authorities and deported to Israel. One of the four later told Israeli radio that the “movers” with video cameras had been prepared to “document” the attacks. Like some 60 other Israelis apprehended in the aftermath of 9/11, the two young Israeli movers who tried to access Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, Tamir D. Sason, 24, and Daniel Levy, 23, were simply turned over to federal immigration officers. Although the truck had tested positive for explosives and a thorough criminal investigation should have been conducted, the two were simply turned over to immigration authorities because one of them was carrying an expired passport. The two were reportedly being held for deportation. Marc Raimondi, spokesman at the Dept. of Homeland Security (DHS) in Washington told AFP that both Sason and Levy “will be deported,” although he did not know their current location or status. Raimondi said ICE had taken custody of the two individuals and simply checked their names against immigration and criminal data bases. Because nothing was found in the data bases, Raimondi said, their only crime was that they had worked illegally on visitor visas. There was no further investigation of their activities. “Perhaps the conspiracy theory has merit,” Raimondi said when asked why Israeli agents involved in criminal activities were simply being deported on visa violations. When asked if DHS was concerned about the network of Israeli-owned moving companies in the United States, some with proven ties to Israeli intelligence, Raimondi was unable to answer. He said he was unable to carry on the conversation and that the agency welcomes any information that could be helpful in the “war on terror.” Finis Are these men involved in the next terror attack in America?Shmuel Dahan and Almaliach Naor don't seem very worried. Within a few hours they were released and allowed to return to their illegal activities in Florida. “These guys aren't terrorists; they belong to the Israeli military.” Additional posts to the above article appear at the following URL: http://www.libertyforum.org/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=news_crime&Number=292783293&t=-1#Post292783293 | | | | | ©2002-2009 WarWithoutEnd.co.uk |
