| Best planned mistake in the history of warfare User comment on article: The Liberty Incident: The 1967 Israeli Attack on the U.S. Spy Ship Submitted by James Ennes (jim@ennes.com), November 1, 2002 at 22:17 Cistol (and Pipes) fail to explain the Israelis could have fired by mistake from close range for 40 minutes after examining the ship and its flag and marking from less than fifty feet away. Cristol says that didn't happen, but 200 survivors are prepared to testify under oath that it did. None of the apologists can explain why such key American leaders as Secretary of State Dean Rusk, Director or Central Intelligence Richard Helms, Director of National Security Agency Marshall Carter, Deputy Director Lou Tordella and nearly ever other senior member of the administration except Robert McNamara all call this a deliberate attack. Cristol claims the intercepts between pilots and Israeli HQ now prove that the attackers did not know the ship was American. But a new book, "History of Israel" by Ahron Bregman, shows that indeed the Israelis did know the ship was American and lied about what happened, which is what survivors have unanimously said for 35 years. Meanwhile, more and more senior intelligence analysts are coming forward to say they heard the same conversations Bregman describes, and that they prove that Israelis knew the ship was American. And while Cristol claims multiple investigations exonerate Israel, that is simply not true. The ONLY investigation to interview survivors was the Navy Court of Inquiry. The rest were fruit of this poisoned tree. And the legal counsel to the court told Navy Times last June 26 that the Court of Inquiry was a sham and a fraud which signed off on a false conclusion that it was an accident because they were ordered to do so by Washington and "officers follow orders". Survivors have offered for 35 years to testify under oath before Congress. We are still willing to do that. | | | | Guest | | | | Guest | | Posted: Sun Nov 03, 2002 10:01 pm Post subject: Access the Following URL for the Truth about Liberty |

| Subj: Israeli historian spills beans on USS LIBERTY! Date: 11/3/02 3:32:04 PM Pacific Standard Time From: nord@famvid.com A HISTORY OF ISRAEL Ahron Bregman A History of Israel includes new revelations...Bregman reveals new facts never- before-published about the senior Egyptian spy who worked for the Mossad and was nicknamed 'The Son-in-Law' on account of his family ties with President Nasser.' - Rami Tal,Yediot Aharonot A History of Israel examines Israel's turbulent history from the first Zionist Congress in 1897 to the present day. The driving themes of this masterly account are Jewish immigration, war, and attempts to forge peace between Israelis, Arabs and Palestines. Bregman also uses his experience as a journalist to expose secrets never previously published to support his compelling narrative. There is a rare extract from a radio exchange between air control and Israeli pilots on the fourth day of the Six Day War, showing that the Israelis did realize that the ship they were bombing was the American USS Liberty, but still went on to attack it. Also included is the never-before-published protocol of the secret meeting between Foreign Minister Moshe Dayan and President Sadat's emissary Hassan el-Tohami, in Morocco in 1977, which shows that contrary to common belief, no promise was made a priori to President Sadat that he would get the Sinai back before his arrival in Israel. Bregman had access to The Syrian Declaration of Principles of 1992 - the basis for talks between Israel and Syria - and this appears in this book in its entirety for the first time ever. But perhaps the biggest coup is the exclusive revelations on the work of the most senior spy Mossad ever had in Egypt, and possibly in the Arab world. Bregman tells of how the spy turned his back on Mossad at the eleventh hour and betrayed and misled the Israelis to become the jewel in the crown of the Egyptian deception plan for the October 1973 war AHRON BREGMAN is a Lecturer in History at Webster University, London and also a journalist for the Daily Telegraph and other national newspapers in the UK and the US. 352 pp 216x138mm Format: Hardback ISBN: 0333676319 Price: £42.50 Order Format: Paperback ISBN: 0333676327 Price: 13.99 Order | | | | Guest | | Posted: Mon Nov 04, 2002 6:26 am Post subject: |
