| September 20, 2002 Editor Letters to the Editor Portage Register P.O. Box 470 Portage, WI 53901 At no time has Iraq ever threatened the United States or taken an action against the United States except briefly during the Gulf War when it responded to US military attacks. Over the past 11 years, all threats have been one-sided; they have come from the US, the rogue nation which, in 1998, bombed four countries, including an innocent pharmaceutical factory in Sudan which President Clinton alleged was being used by Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden to manufacture biological weapons. It was a lie, and we made no restitution to the impoverished Sudanese. Since 1998, we have bombed Iraq on a weekly, sometimes daily, basis. We base this authority on our own unilateral (with the puppet Britain) establishment of no-fly zones, over a sovereign country, we allege are necessary to protect the Kurds and the Shia Muslims. In the meantime, Turkey, our ally, has crossed into Iraq and has killed more than 30,000 Kurds. Did we bomb Turkey? Of course not. Israel has violated 100's of UN resolutions and has illegally occupied Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine. It refuses to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. Did we bomb Israel? No, when Israel dropped a 2,000 pound bomb on an apartment building in the middle of the night to kill one Palestinian suspected of terrorism, knowing that they would undoubtedly kill and injure many others, our treasonous Congress rewarded Israel by appropriating another $200 million to them.
