| http://www.iht.com/ihtsearch.php?id=62643&owner=(Haaretz%20(Tel%20Aviv))&date=20020628154747 Another step to nowhere By Gideon Samet (Haaretz (Tel Aviv)) Thursday, June 27, 2002 The only useful thing in President George W. Bush's useless speech is that now we know which way the dice in Washington have fallen when it comes to the Middle East. Those millions of Israelis who are losing hope for an agreement to end the conflict through political means now have authorization from the leader of the West that for a long time to come, there won't be even the beginning of movement. With this step to nowhere, essentially he did not quote the Bible with "choose life," but rather with "be devoured by the sword." It wasn't by accident, nor did the president hide anything. That's just the way he perceives American interests. Particularly interesting was the drama on the way to the presidential decision. Secretary of State Colin Powell, a large number of White House staffers and most of the leading media in America are also staunch patriots. And Bush has a clear interest in getting along with the European Union and the Arab world, so why did he completely reject the EU approach and why did he trash the initiative by the main Arab capitals? Because the president's supreme interest right now is to get through the Congressional midterm elections in November, and his re-election two years from now, without going through the humiliation that a few thousand more Jewish votes in Florida could prevent. - Gideon Samet, in Haaretz (Tel Aviv) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? | ----------------- Forwarded Message: Subj: PROTEST ISRAELI OCCUPATION TUESDAY Date: 6/29/02 2:37:59 PM Pacific Daylight Time To: ccpj_list@topica.com Sent from the Internet (Details) PROTEST ISRAELI OCCUPATION When: Tuesday July 2nd Where: South Capitol Steps (11th and Congress) Time: 5:30 pm Austin Divestment Initiative (a newly founded Austin group) is protesting Israel's re-occupation of the West Bank and Bush's latest "vision" speech. President Bush, once again, blamed the Palestinian victims for Israel's military occupation and put the burden on Palestinians to provide security for the occupying power and security for Israeli citizens - as Israel re-occupies the West Bank, as the criminal Sharon seeks to ethnically cleanse Palestine of Palestinians, as Palestinian institutions are destroyed, as innocent Palestinians are rounded up, executed without trial or jury, and as thousands of Palestinians are confined under curfew. The President's speech devoid of logic, of fairness, of justice, the rule of law and human rights demands that Palestinians accept subjugation and apartheid. It is a travesty that the leader of the Free World cannot envision freedom for Palestinians. We, the people, demand that our President stand behind international law and human rights and call for an immediate end to the Israeli Military Occupation. Israeli noncompliance with international law and rejection of UN resolutions ought not be rewarded by giving in to more Israeli demands. We, who fund the occupation, need to send a message to the White House that we reject US policy towards Palestinians. If you believe in freedom and liberty and reject subjugation and oppression, join us as we raise our voices to protest Bush's supportive policy of Sharon's atrocities and Israel's re-occupation of the West Bank. | THE US - ZIONIST OCCUPIED TERRITORY If there was doubt that the United States was at present any other than Zionist Occupied Territory it was blown away by the speech that George W. Bush spewed the other day while a tiny horned Ariel Sharon was perched on his shoulder, trident firmly against Bush's jugular. Aiding and abetting the one-sided blather was Bush's favorite press secretary, pro-Israeli Ari Fleischer, who could not say a critical word of Sharon if his life depended on it. One wonders who put Fleischer in that role? Was he chosen by Bush, or was the president notified that Fleischer would be speaking for him, set in place by some cabal of pro-Israel forces that seem to be running this nation according to their own distorted Judaistic standards that have no relation to the Jewish faith except in name. The essence of the speech appeared to be that until Yassar Arafat is removed from the Palestinian government - by resignation, election loss, or by Israeli murder squad - and until the Palestinians meet several stringent demands, even while their territory is occupied by Israeli thugs with American-supplied tanks, jets, helicopters, and heavy weapons, then there would be no US brokered peace, and no progress towards a Palestinian State. Yes, all this to be done while Palestine is occupied by Israeli troops who are again in their favorite mode of blowing up houses and buildings, capturing Palestinian men and boys under the accusations that they may be bombers, or make the bombs. And, if some Palestinian elders, women, and children are murdered by tank cannons or machine guns, what the heck! All they have to do is say it was an "error," and the pro-Israeli media in America dutifully reports that news and all is well - in their eyes. But why and how can the Zionists and pro-Israelis in the US get away with it? Money, and the power that accompanies money! Most of the major networks in the United States are controlled by the pro-Israelis that live in America. They may be American citizens, but their hearts and loyalties are to the state of Israel. This is true for the American media, American industry, American financial centers, and American business in general. Money, and the power that accompanies money! The power of the pro-Israeli purse in the election cycles is something to behold. Despite McCain-Finegold, the pro-Israel forces in America already have found a way to pour money into pro- Israel candidates' campaigns, and even if Bush bends to their will in the middle east, 90% of pro-Israelis will vote for Bush's opponent, more than likely a democrat liberal. Money, and the power that accompanies money! The power of the pro-Israeli purse over US senators and representatives who will do anything to get elected, or re-elected, and will sell their souls for the cash to do so is phenomenal. The Israeli-financed elections of people like Alan Cranston, who authored bills allowing American arms and treasure to flow in steady stream to Jerusalem was a despicable event. But it still goes on, with other senators, other representatives, other Israeli sycophants, and the laws giving away our taxpayer money to Israel are still on the books. The American people elected George W. Bush under the impression that he would be a strong president, faithful to the American Republic, fair in his dealings with foreign nations, quick to help those nations that are friends, quick to retaliate against nations that have attacked us, and quick to maintain the sovereignty of the United States, keeping it strong, ready, and able under any circumstance. Yet, so far president Bush has not met these simple tests. It appears that Israel, Jerusalem, and Ariel Sharon is telling Bush and his administration what to do, when to do it, and to whom. It is sickening! The United States is not to be ruled by a two-bit beggar nation no matter how that nation has its tentacles in our system of government, our industries, our financial centers, our businesses, and even in our laws. If the president truly wants to settle things in the middle east he should have the strength and fortitude to proclaim the following: 1. Order Ariel Sharon to vacate all Palestinian Territory, and return to the 1948 boundaries, and vacate all of the settlements built on Palestinian territory. 2. Notify Sharon if he does not do so, American military force will move him out. 3. Inform Sharon that all arms and US taxpayer monies to Israel sans any type of repayment to the US treasury will come to a halt, that the US will no longer be an Israeli cash cow. 4. Tell Sharon that the United States will immediately recognize a Palestinian State, bounded by the 1948 original borders. 5. State to Sharon that the Arab or Palestinian right of return will be negated only if Israel compensates those who had their property stolen by Israelis, all at present value, to be paid by Israel and not American taxpayer funds. If Bush can screw his courage to the sticking point, stiffen his resolve, firm up his backbone, and proceed like a Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, or Ronald Reagan, there will be peace in the Middle East, and not merely a lull in the fighting controlled, as it is now, by the Israelis, aided abetted by the pro-Israelis in the United States. Bush is the president of the United States, and need not kow tow to the pipsqueak prime minister of a pipsqueak country, meanwhile paying for the privilege. Dr. E.A.
