| The Myth of Israeli Friendship
It was enough to turn your stomach! First it was President Bush castigating the beleaguered Yasser Arafat hunkered down in his tiny office in the Ramallah complex, blaming Arafat for the renegade suicide bombers - as though the Palestinian leader had the power to stop them from his Israeli fashioned prison cell.That was the lead-in to Bush's demand that Israel pull back its invading military at once so some type of peace negotiations could begin.
Bush put the power and prestige of the United States on the line, but that paper tiger might was snuffed out like a candle in a blast of hot air from Ariel Sharon as he ignored Bush in a speech to the Israeli Knesset.
Bush, in the role of dishonest broker, tried once again to foster the impression that Israel was our great and only friend in the Middle East - an outright lie promulgating the false concept that Israel is indeed a friend.
Yes, Israel is a friend as long as the US kow tows to it,and keeps the arms and treasure flowing to the Tel Aviv coffers. Israel is a "friend" as long as the US does and says what Israel wants it to do.
In an abysmal performing seal act, the US administration, and the congress, take the role of the seal.Then it was Condaleeza Rice parroting the "Israel is our friend" mantra on the Sunday news programs, repeating the holy words ad nauseum.
It got to the point where the belly crawling to the King of Siam was figuratively displayed by an administration cabinet member who is supposed to be on the US side.
Then came the most abject scene of all! The hero of the Gulf War, a distinguished military careerist, and a present Secretary of State, Colin Powell, like Bush, sang the aria"Israel is our friend" in castrato fashion and demeanor.
In Powell's defense, it can be said that when introduced as Secretary of State, it was not mentioned exactly of which state he was Secretary.=7F It is unbelievably sad that Israel has the arrogance and temerity to thumb its nose at the greatest economic and military power in the world, and works our administration,congress, and industrialists like puppets on a string.
How can this be?There is only one answer - the pro-Israel interests in the United States.
These are interests that put Israel first inall aspects, interests that use the power of money to frighten administrations and congresses at election time,interests that send arms and money to Israel (about 100 billion dollars to date), interests that do not care if oil supplies are cut off by suppliers that resent the government's miscegany that is the contrived US-Israel relationship.What is going on?
Israel takes our arms and money, sets up espionage rings to spy on the US and steal its secrets, usually for resale, and tries to influence the US government to take Israel's part in any situation, no matter how demeaning to the US, or how sordid the Israeli actions.Israel gloats over how timorous the US leaders are,playing the religion card at every opportunity, stressing that any objection to Israeli actions is anti-Semitic, or anti-Jewish.That is a perverted falsity!
Rather than a Jewish state, as Bush, Powell, and others have said, Israel is a secular zionist government that hides behind Judaism in a blasphemous desecration of an honorable faith.
So what is Bush to do? If he has any honor left, in the face of Sharon's dismissal of his weak pleas for Israeli withdrawal, he will not send Powell or any other top level administration flack to genuflect at the feet of the Israeli government.What Bush should do is send an aircraft carrier group to the region, and tell Sharon either get the tanks, SS troops,fighter aircraft, and helicopter gunships (all of which the US government's Israeli toadies gave them) out of Palestinian territory, or else we would remove them for him.
If Bush and Powell show some spine and do this, they may revert to their original basso profundo instead of harmonizing in the same old castrato chorus.
So much is riding on the US prevailing against Sharon and Israel - the 2002 and 2004 elections, the global fight against Al Queda terrorism, the prestige of the US in Arab countries and other nations of the world, such as China,who are waiting to see if the US is truly a super power or merely an weak-willed Israeli lap dog.
