| COLD FEET OR DEAD MEAT
You heard the threatened Israeli violence against the Palestinians living in Gaza; it was just before yesterday. The Israeli cabinet and Ariel Sharon called up some hapless, reluctant, Israeli reservists for the pending attack on the people of Gaza and Gaza city.
The tanks and soldiers are poised.What the Israeli cabinet lost sight of was, Gaza is not Jenin.Gaza is 1.3 million valiant people, all of whom swore a fight to the death against an Israeli invasion force.
The people of Gaza have had time to prepare a defense against Israeli tanks and armed personnel carriers through the use of land mines which can stop a tank in its tracks, with death or injury to the tank or APC personnel.
Gaza will not be a turkey shoot for the IDF; it will not be where a circle of Israeli tanks surround a 10 year old Palestinian kid holding a sling shot and blasting him to bits.
It will not be, as the world watches, a slow, unimpeded, destruction of Palestinian homes by tanks and bulldozers, burying Palestinian elderly, women, and children in rubble to die horrible and suffocating deaths.
No, the defenders of Gaza will have molotov cocktails,explosives, and mines to use on the Israeli tanks, and automatic weapons at the ready to use on invading Israelis oldiers. There would not only be a loss of Palestinian defenders, but also a loss of young Israeli men and women, forced into the IDF, that would be unacceptable to the people and parents of Israel who want no more killing.
And the more than 500 Isreali lads, who have refused to fight Butcher Sharon's battles against helpless Palestinian civilians,would grow to many times that size. Normal Israeli families want peace, and do not wish any more than Palestinian families do to see their sons and daughters come home inbody bags.
This critical and heart rending phase of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict was brought about by Sharon, and only by Sharon.
His assault on the Islamic mosque was the first step in getting himself elected prime minister, and was the beginning of a calculated process to take over all of Palestine and eject or exterminate the Palestinians.
But, the Israeli cabinet is getting cold feet. Reports are that they are having "second thoughts" on a massive thrust into Gaza, a move which would be looked on as a second Jenin-type genocide by the world, and would only invite martyr bombings of Israeli citizens.
Then what is left for Sharon? Perhaps he would use his three submarines and his destroyer to shell Gaza from off shore.
More than likely, however, he would send his American-provided F-16's and his American-provided helicopter gunships to machine gun and rocket Palestinian civilians,homes, businesses, and infrastructure from the air, in absolute safety, so he can say it was in "retaliation."
And remember, to finance these genocidal operations, Sharon has just been voted $200 million US taxpayer dollars by adelusionary, cowardly, US congress, in addition to the 3 billion plus he gets annually. And in a token like action, Palestine has been voted $50 million dollars to clean up the billions of dollars of devastation - infrastructure, homes, buildings,businesses, olive groves, farms, utilities, police stations,government centers, and Palestinian lives - inflicted on the Palestinian people by the bloodthirsty Sharon government.
So, cold feet or dead meat.This is what lies behind the Israeli cabinet decision to hold offon an invasion of Gaza. Certainly Sharon might choose an ill defended area of the border to invade, just for the sake of taking some action; however, it likely will not be a direct assault of a major population center which would bring about the approbation of the world along with tragic results for both Palestinian and Israeli mothers and fathers.
The civilized nations of the world are watching the Butcher Sharon and his Israeli cabinet.
The failed assault on the Christian Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem was a defeat for Sharon; perhaps he will now want to save face for it in Gaza.
May the world, especially US President George W. Bush, stop Sharon's mad leap to join Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin in history's devil's pantheon.
